Can someone explain how lots of the band of the hawk's members get eaten in this episode but nothing is mentioned about it when Guts & co return with Griffith?

I think at one point they mention that they’re supposed to meet up with that half of the group, but then Griffith takes off with the wagon and it all goes down with the necklace and Griffiths transformation, if I remember right
