Regarding Griffith's statement, the issue is that most subtitles do not do justice to what he is really saying. In the original, Griffith says "Omae wa hoshinda, Gatsu" (お前は欲しんだ、ガッツ), and the best way to translate this is "you are what I desire, Guts." Many subtitle it as something like "I want you in my group" or something similar, but the verb "hoshii" (欲しい) is used to express desire, something one wants. Notice that Guts was confused by the way Griffith said this because it really seemed like he wanted some kind of romantic involvement. Thus, when Casca says that "Griffith had never spoken such sweet words to anyone," it's in the sense that he not only invited Guts to the Band of the Hawk, but he really made it clear that he "wanted" Guts.

That makes sense now! The translation was not accurate there then :(

It’s ambiguous for sure.

while griffith said he does not feel he owes anything to any person that decides to join him and die for him in battle, it is in stark contrast to the way he reacted to the death of that one child. casca even mentions that he became more depressed after that. he sold himself to that older guy to get resources for his group but it was underlined by seeing this child die for him. he figured the best he can do for those that died for him is do what is necessary to survive and reach his dream so they will not have died in vain. and u can see it has had some lasting implications by him clawing at his arms when he opens up to caska.

Griffith seems to struggle rejecting his humanity in order to achieve his dream, it looks like over the years he learnt to hide it better but some events are still affecting him

The deeper theme this show is showing us is about "hard workers", "successful people", "genius billionaire" type of thing. In our society, most people celebrate these kinds of people. "Wow he is so amazing. He is so smart and works so hard and now he is a billionaire". But we are seeing a dark side of this. Maybe these kinds of people are not always so amazing.

When evaluating the characters in Berserk, it's important to remember that this is feudal Europe. Everything was different then. Womens' place in society and the battlefield, homosexual encounters, p*derasty, and "mental health" awareness simply didn't exist as a fundamental concept. So, no, these people aren't "crazy", they're traumatized, and finding some way to cope with that trauma.

True, very cruel times and very damaged society :(

You will regret it when you finish the series. You will live with irreparable rage and anger after you finish it. Guts is a man. man . man .

Sounds like it is worth of finishing it then!

Griffith slipped here when he said he did not care about members of the band dying for him. As a mercenary leader, he cared only about loosing soldiers. He saw people as tools. Guts seemed to be the only one Griffith care about as a person.
@sagnorm18637 ай бұрын
This is only partially true. Griffith wishes he can view them as tools. This is his goal. But then why did he scratch his arms until there was blood? Why did he mourn the boy's death? And why does he care about Guts? He mourned for the boy because he feels sad he caused his death. He scratched his arms because he feels guilty about everyone that is dying for his dream. And he is worried about Guts. These emotions are making Griffith weak. Griffith is trying to fight these emotions.
@downeastbeast64486 ай бұрын
False. He's trying to justify what's happening by logic-ing his way out of it. If he can shift his mindset enough, maybe he can avoid feeling the crippling depression of losing those he's closest to.

Guys, you should watch Berserk: The Golden Age Arc - Memorial Edition episodes and not watch the 97 version because it is poor in terms of implementation, silly and childish, and does not suit the manga. People may love it because of a childhood nostalgia or more, but the Berserk: The Golden Age Arc - Memorial Edition episodes version is much better in everything. Watch one episode of it and you will see the difference with your own eyes. It is the same story but with better production.

We think as soon as we finish Berserk 1997 we will get some info on other Berserk related movies and series, not right after episode 25 though but maybe some time in the future, if it is worth it :)

@@DenverSenpai It depends on how much you value writing quality. If you value writing quality, then here is the truth. 1. Manga is the best. You should start from the very beginning 2. 1997 is the best anime. But the animation is not so good and some very important scenes are removed 3. Berserk 2016/2017 is very ugly looking. Bad art. Bad animation. But the story is done well. People hate this only because it is ugly to look at. 4. Berserk Golden Age Arc Movies and Memorial Edition - This is the worst of them all. Writing quality is very poor. People enjoy this only because it has good visuals.
