He decided that he still wanted his kingdom on Earth aka Falconia but to do this he had to have a ton of people die in the Tower of Rebirth. Long story short Griffith is reincarnated into our world as both a physical/astral being. He effortlessly sways tons of people over to his side and he is seen as a savior of humanity. Humans and demons live peacefully in his kingdom. They don't know what he's actually like and Guts is just trying to live his life in this messed up world Griffith created. Recently he just kidnapped Caska again for unknown purposes.
