actually terminus does fit the theme, the stuff around the spaceship change shape when shot, and shift means move, and the shapes move around, and you said no ideas are wrong, technically it is 'shapeshifting'

I haven't played the game, nor read the rules/theme, but from the video I thought the upgrade system 8:51 qualified as shape shifting too. So I agree that the statement seemed harsh or a misunderstanding of the game. But they make the rules and as a general hint it was well put: the theme of a jam is often meant as an inspiration mostly, but for a contest it's also a way to "make sure" that the game was made during the jam and not just a submission of anything you had laying around. "No ideas are wrong" is indeed good to get going, but still "some ideas are better" and "clear and simple is more likely to be understood by the stressed judges". My general suggestion is also to focus on what you did get out of the jam; inspiration, focus, feedback, fun; instead of what you didn't get (e.g. first price or players). There are no losers in this kind of setup.

By the way, I noticed you used the tutorial as footage. Just to ask, you did get past the tutorial and into the main game, right? Yeah the quality in some of those games was unparalleled. I myself signed up but due to university I just didn't have the time. My project was going to be a beat em up which doesn't seem to fit into any of the categories! So maybe it was for the best. I'll still finish it sometime and maybe submit it in the future if you ever have a beat em up game jam! Hope you do more game jams! It was at a bad time for me, I'd love to see a retro game jam or a fantasy/sci fi theme.

Yeah :) it's easier inside the academy to get into the videos as there are less submissions! Plus this one off big jam was always going to attract a lot of great scratching!

that would indeed be more fair, but it's hard to prove if you are really under 16 and i think there wouldn't be enough entries in the 16+ category because not a lot of adults use scratch.

One reason is that there were WAY more entries... So we could only see the creme of the crop! - But also, in the Academy I personally review each game and try to show include a range of skills based on lots of factors :)

Yes, as long as you give credit I'm good with that - One day I may recreate the full game on another platform too - There's quite a bit more I never got around to adding as of yet in the Scratch version (I created a PC game version 30 years ago would you believe it)
