Scratch is for introducing younger audiences to programming. I don't think we need anymore updates for the website anymore. Scratch is perfect the way it is to this present day; It doesn't matter about the popularity. It's just about fun, creativity, imagination, and socialization. I do think the moderation and community needs to improve a bit, but besides that Scratch is great the way it is. If you think Scratch is getting boring, then I think you need to move on to different programming languages than just stacking lego bricks together.
@Disciple_JKАй бұрын
Turbowarp, Penguinmod, and other Scratch mods show that there's really no reason for them not to add additional features. Perhaps no more regular blocks are needed (for the most part) but those mods offer so many game-changing extensions that would only add to the experience. Sure, there comes a point where people ought to just move on to a more capable engine if they want more flexibility, but that doesn't change the fact that you have to manually add code to every object in a Scratch project just to be compatible with scrolling. Even game engines that are a hundred times more complex than Scratch come with built-in physics engines and easier tools for building levels. It'll always have a special place in my heart, but it can be better.

I'm sorry but there is not a single lick of creativity in the majority of scratch projects. The website is designed to push uncreative slop to the top, providing no inspiration to anyone, and encouraging them to carbon copy stuff that everyone else has already carbon copied 16 times over. It's just a cesspit of children who want attention. They need to completely redesign their algorithm to push the good projects to the top so that people have ideas to go off of, and to create more room for improvement. Scratch's design is inherently damaging to young programmers.
@Challenger10KАй бұрын
This reminds me of a certain someone. Tbh I think the main problem with scratch is the fact that it was built for a different time (2003). Since then machines have become way more powerful and don't need a 30fps 480x640 limit. I also don't get why scratch projects are 4:3. like even in 2003 quite a lot of monitors were widescreen or 10 : 16 (an aspect ratio common in the early 2000's) so i don't see why they wouldn't include them as options. I'm surprised if anyone remembers me but I used to make the update videos for Scratch Addons. I've been using the website for a very long time - most of my life! But the reason I left Scratch behind was because the team running it didn't seem to care. My main frustration is that they did everything halfway. There was some huge potential, but little work done to harness that potential. Scratch seems to have created a website for beginners that had a few advanced features, but was very slow on the uptake that people weren't just using it to learn, they were staying there. By that point, it seemed like they simply didn't care enough to maximize and ended up forcing a community that could have been thriving to die.

This video misses the point of Scratch. He is trying to chastize Scratch for not being an advanced tool, but fails to read the tagline "world's largest free coding community for kids." Sure some of the design decisions might be strange, and the code block could do with some revamping, but scratch was never meant for advanced projects, or even large-scale games at all! if you look back at the first Scratch projects, you can see they were more akin to animated postcards with some gamification. The advanced things that have been made with scratch, like 3D renderers, hi-speed games, custom compilers, emulators, engines, and everything you showed in the "Scratch cant do THIS" section, were a result of an extremely dedicated offshoot of the community, who mastered the strange, somewhat arbitrary syntax of Scratch, transforming it into this pseudo-javascript thing when it was only intended for basic coding concepts. its because everyone is moving to Turbowarp, Penguinmod, Gandi, etc. the limits are removed, and more capabilities are added. since tw and pm are partially compatable and all tw extensions work in pm, you can do mostly anything in either of them.

2:50 I love that Minecraft game, it’s so good! You are right, though, Scratch is cooked. I sometimes use Scratch, and I haven’t seen much activity in studios that I’m part of. No one I know likes Scratch anymore, and there are a bunch of inactive accounts and accounts that aren’t used anymore on there. Scratch would need a HUGE update to get back on track, so I’m sorry to say this, but Scratch might be done for. 😢 4:59 I WANT GANDI SO BAD NOW! 😍

Getting into gcses and Gandi's programming translations ( scratch blocks to python ) sounds absolutely perfect for someone like me. I'm really good at scratch and just need to learn the basics of other languages to utilise them to my full capabilities.

I feel like its pretty simple atleast on my end, alot of people enjoy horror and scratch hates those and I feel like thats making me and alot of other creators thinking of quiting. and with what you have been talking about I feel like theres just a simple fix to this, st just needs to add more blocks to add for more possibilities. also another stupid limitation is how small the max file size is, it makes it really hard to import songs 3 minutes or longer

For me i'm kinda stuck in a middle ground because i want to move on to another website so i don't have to worry to death about the moderation but i also want to be able to code projects that aren't all games like animations and stuff but i can't find any alternatives like that aside from penguinmod but when i try to log in it errors out on me so anything that's a lot like scratch but with better moderation and still a way to see other projects just like scratch will help a ton.

I started using Scratch in 2017. I had a sidescroller shooter game that I started working on in late 2018 and had worked on for 5 years (on and off in my free time). While previously the only thing holding the game back was my laziness and poor work ethic, I noticed something when I tried to start work on a new update for it. Enemies, which utilize the clone feature to exist in larger numbers, could no longer detect projectile attacks (which I also did using the clone feature.) I tried just about everything to troubleshoot it, but due to some strange bug that I coudn't find any information on, this game was and is effectively broken. I didn't have trouble moving on from that and just starting work on new projects, but the fact that it happened made me realize just how flawed the engine is.

I used Scratch for 2 years. And it was fun. But I never got following for making projects with hard work. I wanted to make games which were different and cool, but they never got enough following as the generic projects. So, I left. Maybe I would return, or maybe not. But thank you for reminding about Gandi IDE, I would use it now :)

Me and my friends used to use scratch and for a while I forgot about it and left the community because I moved to a different place, I have now forgotten my password but I still look at the old scratch and old me and I wish scratch would be as forgiving and more interactive as it used to be but all good things come to an end eventually.

What I think scratch should do is add some new updates what we actually need not know new AI what they're going to add soon onto the website, we need to get updates with 60 FPS like you said also I think they should add new blocks and they should update the screen size to like KZbin so you can fit more stuff on the screen, and they should hire moderators instead of AI so that means bad projects they don't get on the front page cause someone has to review them first, also they should add a recording project feature so that means when it's your project or someone else's to keep it as a memory you can record it by going in the scratch editor and recording it and they should have a hashtag limit so that means it stops people from spamming hashtags so they can get on the front page and these are some ideas scratch could do to make things better 😀
