c++ really? stop right now! you're gonna regret this decision. learn something like go, rust, or even c instead. you're gonna spend nights trying to find that one memory leak, while with something like the rust borrow checker, you don't need to worry, it's just that rust has a very confusing syntax. c will definitely make the problem easier, and go is one of the best programming languages, because it has a great garbage collector, it's great for many things, the syntax makes sense, and is easy to read, I think you should learn go instead.

It's one of the most used programming languages in the game development industry - Unity and Unreal Engine are built in it, as are the vast majority of in-house engines and tools. If you want a serious game development career, you need to know either C/C++ or C# for Unity. Basically been waiting on this forever, im good at coding normally but i kinda fall apart when i get to cloud scripts, i have so many ideas ive wanted to try that i couldnt because i could never wrap my head around cloud variables properly. Keep up the good work mate
@theoreb-f2o Жыл бұрын
Griffpatch, randomly updating cloud variables can lead to inconsistent and unpredictable player interactions. The best approach might be to track the frequency of variable changes to pinpoint the most effective timing for data transmission. That said, I'm guessing this could be more complicated, especially considering connection latency to the Scratch servers. But wouldn't it be possible to gauge this latency? Let's say each player sends out a specific 'ping' correlated with their internal clock. In response, the rest of the players send back their own 'ping' at the instant the message is received. By halving the measured time interval, we could determine an average ping for the player. Apply this method to each data channel - in this case, the ten cloud variables - with each player consistently assigned to one. Upon launching the game, the client could then figure out the optimal time intervals for sending new messages.
@griffpatch Жыл бұрын
I have considered this, but this can actually be detrimental. Often a cloud variable stops responding due to cloud glitching on Scratch's end... and if all the users projects then chose to use this channel due to less messages coming through... then boom lol
@theoreb-f2o Жыл бұрын
@@griffpatch We can consider another approach, which is to use a cycling algorithm that sends packets consecutively through each channel, starting from channel 1 through to 10, and then looping back to 1. Each packet would be dispatched at intervals of 100ms, preventing any singular cloud variable from becoming overwhelmed. Upon entering the game, a new client would listen for the packets and identify a suitable slot within these 100ms intervals. To counteract latency issues, the client could then continuously calculate its ping with random players to approximate the server ping. The idea here is that, knowing this latency, data could be sent just ahead of its assigned slot, ensuring it is received by the Scratch server in the right order. Admittedly, this system is theoretical, but it could be a valuable avenue to explore. I'm curious to know what you think of this approach and if it's worth pursuing some testing.

Yo, I had a potential suggestion! It is kind of meaningless in the long run, but a personal minor gripe of mine! I think it's a good practice to remove the prefab values inside of blocks before you add a reporter block inside of them. Said values get remembered by Scratch even after closing and re-opening the project, so it's kind of a waste of file space! Doesn't really matter much in practice, but it might add up a bit with larger projects! Sorry if this seems really annoying and nit-picky!
