This was past due. The crummy generic burner I'd gotten from Home Depot was barely over a year old and completely blown out. I got a proper replacement through Amazon, and this is how it went in. My nearly 30 year old gas grill is running like brand new again, and replacing a burner is a lot easier than you might think.
Included are a brief interview with Rocky, and a cameo appearance by a sacrificial boneless New Your Strip. Well... I did have to test it...

Glad you got that fixed, because believe it or not, we are on our way over to sample the food it cooks! :) Cook large amounts and make it extra good! :D

***** It did indeed, Larry. I don't doubt that I could've *used* a buttah knife on it. And it was as good as it looked. My meat guy is good to me. :-)

Patrick watched with great interest in the grill maintenance part. I watched with great interest with the slicing of a perfect looking steak. You made me salivate. I have been absent - haven't logged on in six days. I'll try to vlog tomorrow. - roc

***** Well then, I scored twice. That oughta be worth extra points. Glad you both enjoyed it! That closeup of the ceremonial slicing was purely a whim, and it really worked. It makes *me* salivate watching it, and it was as good as it looked, too. Yes, your absence has been noticed. Don't think you can get away with such slacking. I shall be watching for Teeeeewsday.

GqueBBQ Yep Jason, grills need lovin' just like the rest of us. I've had this old beast since '92, and we've gotten to be best buds. The cook on that steak proves it. LOL! And you can bet that it tasted every bit as good as it looked. Thanks for dropping in!

a great, funny video as I see myself right now checking out potential BBQs. I have used lava rocks before and don't ever see them in any demos of the new models but deflecting plates. sadly I will be forced to spend about the $500 mark to make sure those burners are thick stainless steel unlike my past ones as you've shown which rusted out in one year. great tip thanks

Do keep the packing insert with the 5 year Guarantee info. They may want the bar code is you file a warranty claim... Had me a money saving idea for that new free grill, I'm gonna give it to my son. It's large & will cook lots of food, So the next family BBQ will be on his nickel.... I'll save $$$ with sayings like: "I'll bring the bread" Hah! I may even give him my WSM Lol.... Google Smell O Vision app... Then MIT food printer for grins... Remember we saw it on Star Trek 1st.... Uh Boy

You can test to see if this steel is stainless by placing a magnet on the steel, if it easy to pull away it will be stainless, stainless being only slightly magnetic. Jim

Moosie I've learned so much from you about grilling. Although I do believe for my tastes that steak needed more cooking! HA! LOL Thank goodness James likes his meat the way I do. Well well done. That's the only way I know how to cook it! HA! Take care and Hugs!

imperceptibleme LOL! You and my Dad. He was a master at ruining a steak. If it wasn't virtually reduced to a piece of shoe leather, then it wasn't done yet. Obviously, my tastes lie more in the direction of having recently mooed. Glad you enjoyed watching the tinkering! Hugs!

***** You never know, Ed. One of these days you might get smitten. Grills are a fun way to cook, if you're home enough to get the time to use them.

Surprisingly, it's not covered in snow !! I could use it, but I'm not about to stand outside babysitting a steak in -10 degree temps!

Our Twin Life Yak! You get no argument from me, considering that I won't even go outside when it drops below 60. Surely it's *got* to start breaking soon up there.

Boy that looked good. What kind of steak was that? Home Depot sells crap. I buy as little as possible from them. Love my Amazon Prime. Also love my Harbor Freight.
@Anonymoose

mobiltec That was a New York Strip, Larry. One of my favorite cuts. I still use Home Depot a fair amount, because it's too convenient. It's less than a mile away. But I *have* gotten much more selective. I look strictly for name brands, and if there's any doubt, I won't waste my money. I haven't done a whole lot with Harbor Freight, because they're a 10 mile drive, but what I've gotten from them has been great. Amazon likes me. I think they see me coming before I even sign in anymore.

Thanks for the video. One thing I was wondering about is how often do you change your lava rock? Thank you!
@Anonymoose
@Anonymoose 9 жыл бұрын
lidsman2221 Glad you enjoyed it! I added the layer of lava rock 20 years or so ago, and I've never changed it. I do, though, pretty regularly run it with both burners wide open, lid down, for about 15 minutes. Temp at lava rock level gets up to just shy of 1000°, and it pretty well burns out any greases and residues. Anything that's let from cooking just turns to ash, and I think that's helped to make it last.

Spring?!?!? I hate you Moosie. How about "this Afternoon Mostly sunny, with a high near 25. Northwest wind 3 to 6 mph. Tonight Mostly cloudy, with a low around 12. Calm wind." In Virginia, my grill would need cleaning about twice a year for spiderwebs in the tubing and vents. Don't know why, but they loved the grill.
@Anonymoose
@Anonymoose 9 жыл бұрын
Pat Farrell High today touched 80, nice breeze, and I have all the windows open. Forecast for all of this week is upper 70s. I've heard of such spiderweb problems, but never had it happen. It might have something to do with the year round use they get here. They're never down long enough to become attractive.
