You call that a dirty grill? Looks like it’s cleaned every other cook. A true dirty grill has a grease fire 75% of the time. Makes food cook twice as fast

Don't feel bad, dude. I once spent a summer cleaning grills for a recreation department. On a scale of 0-10 (10 being the worst), yours is about 3. Some of the ones we worked on hadn't been cleaned in years. We actually built a fire pit and threw in the grills to burn off as much of the crud as we could. This incinerated most of the grease and grime. Some could just be wire-brushed down to the bare metal. Others required some additional degreaser, detergent, and carbon solvents. In the end, it all worked. BTW - The reason we didn't just go with chemicals was due to the local ordinances which restricted groundwater pollution, so we had near-zero tolerance for run-off water. Great video.

Is it ok to use degreaser chemicals on the grill grates themselves? I mean, that's where the actual food is cooked. Or will a light rinsing afterwards be enough to remove the toxins?

What’s great with this Napoleon grill is that even after 3 years, the outside looks absolutely brand new. Of course the dirty is suppose to be inside but even like that, the outside really looks great do to what looks like stainless steel high quality casing.

I buy everything based on reviews. Some said this was hard to put together kzbin.infoUgkxCx5fHawkK9OoV-ojFrY8JLnZrFwAmvUt some guy said 2 hours and 2 beers later. I didn't drink beer like I was going to. I didn't feel like going to the store. I'm assuming I would have had at least 3. I took my time. Stepped outside for a cigarette break a couple times but all in all it was about a 3 hour project for me but it wasn't like it was difficult or anything . Only pictures but everything is pretty organized and labeled although I didn't see any #s on the actual pieces like it shows in the diagrams. Only the screws were labeled. On the cardboard part of the packaging on the back side. I put it together in my living room too. It wasn't supposed to rain today but it's Michigan and I couldn't wait so I put it together in my living room. Without beer but beer would definitely have made it more fun that's for sure. I'm giving this a 5 for easy assembly. I'll update after it stops raining when I can take it out of my living room and cook some food on it. Hope this helps at least for people who think they can't put this together because I did and you can too . And there are extra screws. I got nervous and immediately came here to see if others had the same experience and they have. You're not doing it wrong. There will be extra screws. Be patient. Don't rush it. Drink beer. Happy assembling

another option for grates is to put them in a heavy duty plastic bag, pur 1 - 2 cups of Lemon Ammonia into the bag, seal it up tightly and leave it overnight or for a day and half and watch the magic happen. It's not the ammonia itself but the FUMES that literally dissolve the grease and baked on foods. I've used this on my gas stove ceramic grates and my wall oven racks and it gets them like new. Of course, there are some burns and such that cannot be removed at this point after all mine are 20+ years old with lots of use so I'm not aiming for perfection. BUT, you'll be amazed what ammonia can do and it's not hazardous to your health....hope this helps.

While this is a way to get it done there are less harsh ways to go about it. An corrosive cleaner is not required, a better bet would be something like simple green which uses enzymes to break down the fats and oils which glue the gunk to the metal. Additionally if you want to get the best mileage out of the exterior of any stainless grill the best thing to do is to clean the exterior with Bar Keepers Friend as soon as you get it and then go over it again once every few years. This removes all the industrial fallout (steel particles from the press and grinding operations) which gets stuck in the passive layer of the stainless and then passivates those gaps from where the offending material is removed. The stuff costs less than $3 in the US so there is no excuse to avoid it. Remember salt tears through stainless via chloride pitting (think about the sauces and marinades you drip), if you have spots at the end of the season that look like surface rust, you can nip the issue fast by just touching up that area with Bar Keepers Friend. Another major point, not all stainless grills are made like the Napoleon, if you have sections which are made of enamel coated steel DO NOT use a putty knife to scrape. If you scrape into the enamel layer you will open a path of oxidation which undermine the nearby enameled areas. You can use a plastic tape knife if you feel like scraping. Happy Grilling.

Instead of spraying chemicals on your grills when in the pladtic tub, fill it with water and some simple dishwasher detergent. Leave it to soak for at least 2 days. More is better. Everything then just wipes off with a damp cloth. Any stubborn spots use something course. I’ve always done this. Its so easy.

That’s the favorite Dutch activity : renovating and cleaning , that’s why Holland is the cleanest place on earth ( except Amsterdam center ) And I’ve been traveling around the world in places like Singapore, Sydney, Vienna , Orlando FL, Rabat Morocco, Dubai, Zurich, Raleigh-Durham, Al these places have some incredibly clean areas but you will always see some places with so sort of unclean feelings. The Nederland’s are just stunning as even in the deep countryside you will see some cycling lanes with mini traffic light and they have those huge highway and in the countryside they will have anti noise wall in glass, very high for 2 houses and the glass wall would go for 3 km or 2 miles. Every single house is clean. They have some very old ones but it looks like they are all renovated or with brand new paint, there is probably a law that says that house of all kind must be painted at least every 3 years or something like that because everything looks refurbished, clean, new and they have some of the most amazing new buildings I’ve seen, even if they aren’t skyscrapers, they look amazing. This mix of modern and old with cobble stone in every single street in the whole country is also amazing ! No those big xthick one, flat and easy on your car’s absorbers . For those that are curious, here’s an example : Rotterdam kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGPSp6dnerKIgrs

Twice a year I just use a few things: Mild degreaser in a bottle, roll of paper towels, gloves, and a bucket. Wipe down the surface with paper towels, remove all parts, spray those with degreaser let it sit, spray the inside with degreaser and use paper towels to clean, or if really bad use a brush. Put all back together and do a final wipe down then then the grill on low for 10 minutes let the remaining chemicals burn off all done. Not a perfect cleaning but good enough to get rid of flares for a good amount of time

I would never recommend spraying grill with water. That will cause rust eventually. Only thing you need to do is turn on high for 15-20 min to char any remaining food and grease and scrap off. The only deep clean that’s necessary is to shop vac out the loose ash other than grease tray/pan maintenance. Remember it’s a grill you can spend all this time doing a deep clean and the first cook after will result in grease splatter and ash getting everywhere again. If you want the outside to look good that’s a different story. If you want the inside to look pristine, don’t use it, haha.

02:55 when you are working with corrosive cleaners, don't forget the right eye protection. For corrosive liquids, you should use something from a know company like: Uvex Ultravision or Uvex ultrasonic goggles. Industrial cleaning chemicals are very aggresive, you can easily lose your eye sight, if you get a splash into your eye. As seen at 04:00, if you use a brush to clean the grill, splashes and drops are unavoidable, it's hard to watch. Protection for your skin is important too, but your eyes are especially endangered !

I've seen far worse BBQs (not my own) 😮 My tip for grates - get a shallow container big enough to put your grate(s) in, then every time after BBQing, pop you grate(s) in it with water & lots of washing up liquid, soak overnight (or longer), then the next day all the grease & burnt on food will easily clean off with minimum effort. Rinse & leave to dry and they'll look like new every time. 🙂 PS best done outdoors, with thick rubber gloves & hosepipe .
