Grilled Horse Steak and Green Peas | Jan's Kitchen | Jan Tom Yam

Eating horse steak is a taboo in many cultures, while in others horse meat is consumed on a large scale in a variety of dishes. I'm going to grill my horse steak with some basic seasoning of sea salt, black pepper and Spanish smoked paprika. And green peas as a side dish, because they work very well with grilled horse steak.

Germany here, we eat a lot of horse meat as sausage or braised. I have hade a horse steak in 1996 when I was deployed with 13 régiment du génie during Euretex. Will try to make it at home!!!!!!

I have seen horse sausage at the market before, but I didn't try it unfortunately. Horse steak is really good, very lean meat, also good in combination with mushrooms. Braised horse meat sounds great. I think I'm going to make horse stew some day.

Voor mij is paard ook taboe, maar het ziet er wel ontzettend lekker uit. Mooi gegrild. Precies zoals ik m'n steaks ook het liefst eet. Ik ben geen fan van erwten, zeker niet puur. Ik vind die kruiden erbij wel interessant. Een goede steak (of het nu van paard of koe is) moet natuurlijk weggespoeld worden met een goede rode wijn. Daar is het volgens mij voor uitgevonden ;-)

Jammer dat je geen paardenbiefstuk mag eten, want het is bijzonder smaakvol en gezond. Maar runderbiefstuk is dat natuurlijk ook. Ik ben dol op doperwten. De steak was goed gegrild. En rare van binnen, zoals ik steaks het liefste eet. Wijn is altijd goed. Hoort er zeker bij.

Yes, you should definitely try this. The combination of horse meat with these vegetables tastes great.

Looks great, It does look to be a bit tough on your video, maybe you didn't get a good steak cut or the horse was too young. Older horses are more tender. In germany sauerbraten is traditionally made with horse meat. It's a roast that is brined in vinegar and spices for a week. The sauce later gets sweetened by gingerbread. It's delicious, I would highly recommend you to try it if you are visiting the western part of germany.

Thanks, it also tasted great. Yes, some parts were a little tough, but that was probably, because it was a thick piece of steak and because I grilled it kind of rare for only a couple of minutes. Sauerbraten sounds like a very tasty dish. Vinegar and spices can add lots of flavor to the meat. If I go go to Germany one day I will definitely try it.
