I’m gonna chime in on this as I have a few years experience using it. 1) yeah it’s a nice compact little grill if space saving is of concern. But for hikers forget it. It’s way heavy. 2) I love the design. But it’s really hard to gauge coal. See, on the trail you won’t be bringing that convenient coal with you. You’ll have to start a fire and wait like at least an hour to get enough coals to produce the heat you need. 3) the rods will warp... no matter what. So your have to take the time to bend them back tediously so that everything fits back in place when packing. Oh and don’t forget: you wanna cook a steak? Heh heh. Be prepared to do some serious cleaning before packing it up. It gets hella dirty. 4) it’s a nifty little gadget but requires precision to use. Oh and the back end kept popping out on me. And now it’s lost and gone.

Tested one earlier this month. Had to take an aluminum pan to cover the chicken being grilled in order to trap the heat. I had also used one of those same aluminum pans to contain my wood fire under the grill. Turned out well in the end.

Very cool little grill. Just make sure you don't dirty it up for hotdogs...just put them on a stick ffs. Same goes with fish, rabbit, small game and birds. Where I can see this little grill exceeding is with a slab of meat, or boiling water and things. Very cool little grill you can keep tucked somewhere, I like it...thanks for the vid:)

An alcohol stove would work too. Not only is that veggie steamer great for coals, and fires, but the perfect wind screen. :)

this may sound silly but I bought a mini butane/propane camp stove from China but I want to use larger pots and pans and need a stable base for them especially for propane as it sits on that canister and is VERY unstable.

Where did you get the fire bowl from? Can you use any fire bowl with this?

what review.... its a video of you setting it up and grilling hotdogs. a proper review will include field use with either or both fire wood or stove and a set up at campsite. how sturdy is it for pot of boiling water or. coffee? is it stable? or is it junk. a review is not listening to music while watching hotdogs cook ! you need to do a better job.

Make sure you bring a five pound bag of charcoal with you when you backpack... Didn't learn anything other than if you want to cook a full package of cooked hotdogs, you should bring ten pounds of charcoal.

Great video on set up of the UCO and also great music...what is the source of the music? It was way to funky to see you toted the grill, fire bowl, charcoal briquets for only 3 hot dogs! I wanted a nice New York Steak or some Chicken/Rabbit/slab of meat for two. :-).

Nathans are good hot dogs. Try cooking a squirrel rabbit or fish on it.
@AndyPanda910 жыл бұрын
uh ... why not just put the hotdogs on a sharpened stick and roast over a campfire?
@TrailAndMountain10 жыл бұрын
Because AndyPanda9 #grilliput and #firebowl are too cool to not use. The stick method is great though when backpacking. When car camping, this is the way to go! Time and a place my friend

Have you ever tried that? Your hot dogs will be black with soot from the fire. Lol.

I don't want to be "that guy" but seriously, for camping or hiking, you'd have to carry charcoal, and match lite charcoal? Wtf? You want to pack that crap? And for Gods sake man, make a small fire, cut yourself a small limb off of a tree and skewer your dog on the stick. This video is nothing more than an advertisement for a joke of a grill. Seriously.
@TrailAndMountain8 жыл бұрын
Its more for car camping or even at the beach. I wouldn't backpack with it but you could if you really wanted to...Its just too heavy for my liking for backpacking.
@FourDollaRacing7 жыл бұрын
I'll be "that guy" then. Seriously, this contraption takes too long to setup for car camping, and no one in their right mind will haul charcoal while backpacking.... More of a bushcraft item, otherwise a novelty!
