Thanks for the support. It's fun to apply a bit of "What if?" to the infinite potential combinations of gear and skills in the game. The possibility of a pure fire OFF at low level occurred to me while I was on the character before this one trying to max out vitality-to-fire conversion using various random bits of gear. The Riftclaw Slicer is incredibly versatile, I'll say that! Necro mastery might feel wasted here, until you factor in the 100% aether-to-fire conversion that comes for free with the Slicer, then it all starts to get a lot more entertaining.

😁👍😁👍😁👍 GUD LAD!!!! Forgot to say, somewhat unnecessarily as am sure you know, there are LOTS of items that buff Flash freeze, a lot of the spectral stuff like the maces often have Flash freeze buffs. My current Nightblade/Arcanist is cold+lightning, and he has a bunch of items that hugely buff flash freeze. Methinks this could get quite silly if you lean into it Keep up the good work m8 😁

@arcadelife Would you consider doing a video that goes over how to filter out items and make sense of all the drops. I know the basic loot filter options but this game has so much gear dropping I find myself getting lost in what is an upgrade/side grade. Do you always prioritize offense over defense? Do you normally find that your damage is high enough and you just need more defense? I know its all on a personal feel level, but if you have any pointers or recommendations, that would be awesome. You have a great voice and your passion for this game really shines through in your videos. I enjoy listening to you talk about Grim Dawn.
@Arcadelife17 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment, always great (and frequently surprising) to be told I have a good voice for this stuff! I should do a video about loot and associated priorities. It seems simple to me, but that’s probably because I’ve been playing the game for so long and take many things for granted now. At a basic level: 1 - I only ever use loot filter to turn off white and yellow items. Edit - I use the rainbow item filter (mod) to change the colours of text in tooltips and I’ve learned to subconsciously identify damage types etc from the text colours so I’m technically filtering the items in my head without really concentrating on doing it. 2 - I tend to look at one skill (possibly two if they are both crucial to what I’m trying to do) and see how easy it is to buff them with gear in the early game. Note - I always level these builds naturally for the videos on here, I don’t create level 100 characters in GD Stash with endgame gear. It’s worth knowing that this is how ‘some’ of the ‘best builds ever’ are created. It’s not wrong, just not something new-ish players might be aware of. 3 - I do generally prioritise damage over defence until it feels like I need to improve defence, or I’m heading into Ultimate, or I’m playing in hardcore, or … other reasons. I’ll put all this in a short-ish video; thanks for the suggestion 👊🙂

Thanks, yeah I’m sure someone commented this in the first Fire Eye of Reckoning video. My intention here was to get the 100% conversion as soon as possible so the Bysmiel quest in Conclave was the quickest, even if the drop rate there is very low. I’ll probably go with Solael in Ultimate because I can slow-farm the Bysmiel quest area in Normal until I unlock the Solael quest area in Ultimate.

I always thought that olexras effect reduces the fire resistance, not the frost blast itself. So you do the blast, the enemy gets hit, and while frozen, its fire res ist reduced. The way you present it is, that while the enemy is hit by the first shockwave of frost, that his fire resistance is reduced simultaneously. Is that the case?
@Arcadelife18 ай бұрын
Yeah, it’s not exactly straightforward and (as usual) I probably don’t explain this stuff clearly. The cold/frostburn damage is separate from the resistance reduction. Some enemies are very resistant to being frozen so their time affected by the resistance reduction is limited. This is why I get so excited about being able to convert the damage of the skill to fire/burn - there’s no need to try spamming a fire/burn attack in the hope of hitting an enemy in a 1-second window when they’re affected by the resistance reduction of OFF because the OFF skill itself is now applying fire/burn damage to them. This makes a big difference to how effective the skill is, and how fire-damage buffs can be stacked without even thinking about buffing cold damage because it’s no longer involved at all. The ‘freeze’ effect is not associated with the damage type, it works with the default damage type and it works with 100% fire conversion. Edit - you can see in the Necropolis fight that the larger enemies are being frozen and then taking fire/burn damage, while the smaller enemies are instantly vaporised due to the lowered resistance and immediate damage from fire. The small ones are probably being frozen but they’re dying so quickly it’s not easy to see.

How much CDR can we realistically stack?
@Arcadelife17 ай бұрын
CDR? The minor loophole I’m exploiting here is the fire damage resistance reduction active while enemies are frozen by Olexra’s, by changing the flat damage dealt by Olexra’s from Cold to Fire. The resistance reduction itself is one type (out of three) and it’s the type that can stack (the percentage with a minus sign in front of it). In addition to stacking this -n% value, there’s also the n% value which doesn’t stack and the flat value (example on Roman’s Crown skill) which also doesn’t stack but both these other RR types can be applied at the same time as the -n% value.

Oh sorry, Cool Down Reduction. Old habit from the Diablo 2 days.@@Arcadelife1
@Arcadelife17 ай бұрын
@@epyjacek Yeah, sorry, I figured out CDR after replying but it’s not really a primary concern for this build. There are ways to significantly reduce the cooldown using gear but my weapon slot is taken by the only thing that gives 100% cold to fire and 100% aether to fire. I’ll do a ‘crazy CDR’ build at some point, it should be fun 👍
@epyjacek7 ай бұрын
@@Arcadelife1 flash freeze with nearly 100% CDR would be bonkers. Is there a cap on CDR?
@Arcadelife17 ай бұрын
@@epyjacek It’s challenging to stack a lot of it. Bloodlord Thalonis drops a weapon that has a 12% chance to do 100% cooldown reduction (generic) so in theory you could dual-wield that item and, again in theory, double the chance for the CDR. However, equipping the weapon would tend to restrict you to fire/chaos damage but that’s not necessarily a bad thing (Doom Bolt obviously). The item is this: www.grimtools.com/db/items/2779

I wish the damage wasn't related to the freeze. I'd use that skill way more. It has great damage, but if it doesn't freeze, none of the damage goes live T.T (this is one thing I wish they would change in the next patch)
@Arcadelife18 ай бұрын
Yeah, I know what you mean. Most enemies do freeze, if only briefly, and having the skill damage as fire/burn means they take max damage even if only for a tenth of a second or whatever. Enemies massively resistant to freeze would probably need a single-target skill aimed at them anyway. I’ve been using fireblast as RMB attack and I’ll put Eldritch Fire devo on it - should be decent until I decide what else I’m going to do with this character.
