Within tactical gameplay, you will take up the role of a hunter fueled by Lament (sign Grimcoven with your fellow hunters) and go on a modular boss battle. During the combat, strategically use dice allocation to move around the board, fire up different combos, and gather Lament to grow in strength. Build your character in roguelike fashion and try to claim the ultimate prize! *FYI:* - Minion kills provide 1 lament (not shown on the card) but buried in the prototype rules. So I missed out on a few. Something I'll take into account if the revenge play is desired! - Any unused lament during the Evolution step is discarded, so you can't save it. It's a use it or lose it situation for a full character and you have to use it for the deputy. REVENGE!!! It's really 'cool' to see how a well thought out tactic can turn into a crushing defeat in a matter of moments with just a small less-brilliant move... This feels much more like chess than muscle-barbarian-graaaAAAHH!!! fight! XD Anyway, awesome video, as always! Very good information and very well presented! Looking forward to the next one!

haha I’m really enjoying the game. It seemed impossible at the start when I first played because it has a steep learning curve and so people aren’t grasping it after one or two plays and throwing in the towel. I’m leaning towards the revenge play (if there’s interest) because i think I can show you all deeper gameplay! 😏

This is the 3rd playthrough I’ve seen of this first scenario, & they’ve all lost. It really wasn’t ever close. I wonder if the game balance is right on this game.

The game is challenging and you need to learn from your mistakes and try different strategies...it is a boss battler after all!

This game seems impossibly difficult. This is the 3rd playthrough and nobody can get past round 4. You seemed to be doing so well, avoiding damage and then...you just took all the damage. This looks like a huge miss for me. Not interested in a game that you need more luck than skill to have a chance at winning.

@@RollingSolo - If you do, I would love to see you take dice over cards. Cards look cool, but (in 3 playthroughs) nobody has really even had the actions (dice) to use the extra card.

On the last boss attack you threw 2 dice but it says on the card you throw 1 die for range 0-1 (which was the case), am i missing something or did you throw more than needed? GO REVENGEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know if I can get over the line of sight rules.... it seems weird and arbitrary that you can't draw line of sight through corners/along space edges and I think that would drive me crazy.

I find them a-ok. Easy to determine, remember and strategize with. Much less complicated than other games I've played too.

It just seems like it would be very immersion breaking in a game that leans heavily on being atmospheric and thematic. I can see the advantage of having something that is simple and consistent, but it feels weird that on a given battlefield you would always have something blocking your vision from exactly the same angles no matter where you are standing. I suppose it works if you kind of abstract it out in your brain, but again, that sort of thing tends to break the feeling of being immersed in the game world. I'm hoping that I'm wrong, because this game definitely checks a lot of the boxes of my favorite things in a game.

I hear you. On the positive side It enhances the strategy of the game and makes movement less generic then most boss battlers. So on that side of the equation it’s a plus.

As a boss battler, I much rather play Kingdom Death Monster, Aeon Trespass Odyssey or the new Primal: the Awakening. This game is OK, but just very mid in my opinion based on what I have seen.

Hi, I initially skipped over your video because I was looking for a solo playthrough of Grimcoven. Perhaps change the title to include playthrough in it? There is almost no content on the solo version out there and I think people will be looking for it. In any case, I'm looking forward to watching to see how the deputy hunter works! EDIT: Fun playthrough and yes, would love to see a revenge match!

Thanks for watching! You would discard any lament from your board not slotted in the Evolution Step (so I would have in the case I held off).

Thanks for video, can I get one more playthrough where you stay away from boss and build corruption value by picking off minions. I think this game requires you to flirt with corruption to build character stats and fight boss nearly evolved. Run run run away until you can fight another day

That's my strategy and also gaining a lament per minion (not mentioned on the cards) would have been a big boost!

As an avid supporter of Gamefound projects, miniatures are an automatic no. Not interested in miniatures, don’t want to pay for them, have no room for the big box they require. I’d rather have the devs put more effort in gameplay than designing miniatures. Bring back the standees !

The insert is tied to the minis. Without minis there is less of a concern for a nice insert.

I just can't really support Awaken Realms anymore now that they incorporate AI art into their games. Very disappointing after the cohesive handcrafted artwork in their earlier works.

I can't really support wearing clothes because they are made with sewing machines. Very disappointing especially after I have to eat grass now after I found out that people are using tractors to farm crops. It's hard being a Luddite.

They’ve talked about AI art openly snd how it’s used. Also, their games are fun to play and that’s what counts. Not all of them will be a perfect fit for you. You have options though! Thanks for watching 😄

Loved the play! From all the playthroughs I've seen, you managed to survive the longest and almost getting that boss card is a great achievement! I'd love to see another go at this game, pretty please. I also had a rules question: 16:50 In all of the other playthroughs I've seen, the Hunters gained 1 Lament for each Minion killed as well. Is this a mistake from their side or did you accidentally make the game more difficult?

Gaining one lament for each minion is a thing. Likely will be on the card itself in the final version as it's easily missed in the prototype rules. If I do a revenge play I'll adjust for this. So yes, I made it even harder!

+1 for revenge. I’ve been impatiently waiting for playthroughs with yours being at the very top of the list so definitely could go for some more. I was originally preparing myself for blindly spending my money here but this difficulty is very off-putting. As someone else mentioned, you had the best run and even then got demolished very early on. Idk what they could possibly do to make this more “fair” for the hunters but if they don’t provide more info on the idea behind making this nearly impossible, I may not be so quick to bust out the wallet freely here. Only thing I can think is that they have something they’re not telling us regarding gameplay but we’ll find out soon enough. Thank you very much for your playthroughs!

Thanks for letting me know! I missed out on a couple things. The minions get one lament per kill (which isn't on the card) but buried in the prototype rules so easy to miss. The revenge play will have a couple mentions and I'll put them in the pinned comment here too!

It’s above average difficult for sure. Which lines up well with a challenging boss battler. This is going to be right in some people’s wheelhouse and others won’t like the challenge. For me I like challenging games as you feel far more accomplished when you pull off a win. I also don’t mind replaying scenarios when there is variability in the scenarios. Enviro cards help with that 🙂 One strategy is to put way more focus into lament and leveling so when you go after the boss cards you get bigger hits. That’s my plan if the revenge play occurs!

Normal minis will have no colour. Sundrop will give the minis a high quality drybrush look.

Of course I want a rematch! It will also shows if the replayability is really as good as they say. I wonder if this is even possible to win in a solo game. You will try to win and at the same time show new mechanics, which could be difficult. With 4 players should be much easier. But I guess it's the same thing like with Nemesis - doesn't matter if you win or not, the fun while playing this game is more important. I'm crossing my fingers :)

I would love to see a rematch. I have not seen anyone get past turn 2 yet lol. The game seems to brutal at the early stages in which you don't even have a chance to interact with the environment. I hope this is something they correct. Maybe only start with 2 minions on the board and the elite comes out with an event card or something. But either way, would love to see a rematch

Completely different game. They only compare in how they handle corruption vs sanity and the enemy types to a point but gameplay is a completely different feel with this one being more difficult overall.
