The first time I ever heard a Grimes song was at a Lana Del Rey concert. She was the opening act, and my friend and I had never heard of her before. We heard this live and it blew my mind and took me to another realm. It was cold and raining, and the people around me got up and began frolicking in the rain in their different colored ponchos and flower crowns. I will never forget that. (it was at Tinley Park if anyone else was there)

It wasn't much new then, either. The basic sound was around in the early 80s, the only difference is the automated digital echo. Depeche Mode _Broken Frame_ album and Kraftwerk, Art of Noise and others. It 'hits' because it's fed to kids that don't know much else.

I'm 31 now, and I had just turned 21 when this song surfaced. I remember driving around town all summer, listening to this. Those days of being a young millennial seem so far away now. No tik tok in sight, just the early days of Insta and snap chat. Going to Underground music shows with friends, and thinking I was one of the cool kids. Everytime I hear this song, the nostalgia/memories it brings of being young and care free is just overwhelming. I was once that college hipster that adored grimes, where I saw her play live at a music festival. Now I'm just a regular suburban mom lol, who happens to listen to Genesis from time to time.

SIeben Acht This track came out 2012. Listen to most electronic music that released 2015-2018, this track was way ahead of its time. The psychedelic vibe to it, the vocals, the drums/instrumental etc I can go on and on. The music videos was basic but the track was ahead of it time compared to music released now.

I first heard this about a year ago in some restaurant, loving the song so much, I didn't think to take my phone out and Shazam it. I tried looking for hours that day, searching "my heart will never die" on Google and even calling up the restaurant to find out which radio station they were playing (turned out to be a playlist). As soon as I heard a Grimes song earlier on, I knew they sang the song they were looking for so I went through Spotify and finally found it.

I'm sure the rest of you Grimes fans can relate: I remember my world kind of stopping when I watched this video for the first time, which was also my first time hearing the song. I was in a very special time in my life, a kind of transitionary period, a sort of butterfly-coming-out-of-a-cocoon kind of phase and this work of art was the absolute perfect soundtrack to this new era. And seeing these fierce females all traveling this fascinating terrain together was also very inspiring for me.

I'm grateful to Grimes for many reasons, including introducing me to Brooke Candy, whose new album was released yesterday. I think with affection of this phase of Grimes'career, where she wasn't anymore a little secret for the world (even though I knew her since Halfaxa) but not "mainstream" yet as she became few years later.

This song may seem lighthearted and fun at the beginning, but there’s so much meaning and sadness behind it. The eerie/echoing instrumentals perfectly match the lyrics in a loop which describe a never ending cycle. Meeting someone, not being sure about what you’re feeling or what you want, and only acknowledging it when you get your heart broken. It perfectly portrays the feeling of being lost and confused, and feeling like there’s something wrong with you (i never feel, i never see, i never know).
