Just to thank you CAP after trying and failing more times than I'd like to admit made my first successful offboard lased Maverick attacks and self lased Paveway attacks today with the F-18. I know it probably feels like a small thing but the frustration has been huge :-)!

I have to admit i'm surprised at just how fickle and tangled these systems are. Everything can look right but it doesn't work and then you can't work out what you did wrong so can't get back

One thing to note that I haven't seen in the video. You can also designate a point for the pod by using the helmet mounted display. It's quite easy and also very quick to do. This is my preferred method when I don't have waypoints or mark points set up for the target area.

I did not understand the reticle states, I also turned the reticle off and in fact, using tpod on Hornet was VERY frustrating. I used undesignate switch too much and got angry why the hell it resets every time. Now it's all clear and I'm ready to try again. Thank you. Maybe I'm biased by years in the Viper, but it works more intuitively in the F-16.

As far as I can tell, in DCS version 2.7.1, the target designation diamond on the HUD does not move when slewing the Litening pod; it only jumps to the new location when you press TDC or enter one of the track modes. It does move when slewing the ATFLIR in the equivalent mode.

I think you missed the mini crosshair that shows when depressing TDC in Point or Area mode. It should be used to slew to another target when in "locked" mode.

I think it's worth mentioning that you cannot go back to "target designated" mode from a track when you're outside the gimbal limits for some reason.

I lock up a target with the tgp. The flit screen shows an object locked up but when I look through the hud the box around the target isn’t even what’s showing up on my tgp screen...

I still sometimes have trouble using the point track on moving targets. I can get the tpod to track targets ok, but if I wait very long before switching to a maverick, the mav seeker slews to the point where the tpod initially acquired the track, not where it is currently looking. I must be doing something wrong.

It is worth noting that now (August 16th, 2024) you cannot change the LGB codes in the air. While you can use the UFC to input a "new code", this doesn't actually change the code of the bombs. If you want to have different codes, they need to be changed on the ground.

6:55 for me the diamont is not moving when I slew around. It only updates its position when I do TDC depress again which kinda sucks Am I doing something wrong?

I have a question, sometimes when I'm using this tpod the reticle on the hud doesn't move around as a slew the tpod but sometimes it does, and im not sure what the difference is... and help would be appreciated

Hi Cap, there is an article about five prohibited maneuvers in the F-14. #3: No AIM-9 launch with landing flaps and slats extended. Seems to be odd. The "burning through the flaps" part makes sense. But according to that article the slats would cover the IR seeker. However, the AIM-9 seekers heads seem to be forward of the slats so they should not be "covered" by the slats. Am I missing something?

Maybe a related test: can you lock an AIM-9 which is on the right side of an F-14 on a target which is flying left ahead of the F-14 such that the line of site is blocked by the F-14's airframe?

Any advantage of “area track” compared to just “target designated” modes? Tgt designate you can still slew so why not use it instead? (Guess it makes no diff in the sim, but perhaps different mechanisms/algorithms IRL to stabilize at a point?)

If you have a maverick on the other DDI, the RAID will always control the FOV on the maverick, regardless of where the TDC is assigned
