LONG BEACH (Built in 1957) has the superstructure design it does because it it was the first ship to mount AESA (Active Electronically Scan Array) radar, the superstructure is shaped the way it was to mount the massive (400 NM range) flat panel radars. After LONG BEACH the next ship class to mount AESA radars was ENTERPRISE (1958) followed by TICONDEROGA (1980). In short LONG BEACH's charms are in her capabilities, not her looks.

Idea for a future video if the newest incarnation of the Arleigh Burke gets added into the game: How many modern Arleigh Burkes needed to take on various past (60's-early 90s) fleets of the time. So like start with a single ship and keep adding one in on the next round until the legacy fleet is defeated. It would give a good idea of the abilities of the modern ships vs their ancestors and just how far the tech has come.

Found it a fascinating missile battle. With so much talk these days of F-15 missile trucks, concepts like Rapid Dragon, intermediate-range ballistics, hypersonics, extended ranges, new propulsion, unmanned wingmen, under-wing SM6's, at-sea VLS reloading, and heck, even missiles getting their own missiles ... Regarding the Oliver Hazard Perrys and VLS, no US ships ever had VLS but the Australian Navy (Adelaide class) and Turkish Navy (G class) modified theirs to have VLS in the early 2000s. A lot of the vessels in the NTU mod are pretty much 'What if' as the NTU programme got cancelled pretty early on due to mounting costs of the upgrade and reduction in costs of AEGIS equipped ships alongside the end of the cold war.

The Navy deemed the differences between the Block IV and previous SM-2 ER (RIM-67) variants as significant enough to warrant its own designation, the RIM-156A. Because of programmatic instability, the Navy only procured 100 units == which is why you never heard of it, and was replaced with the SM-6

Another fun one cap. Remember that in the 60s through 80s, the Soviets were also terribly outnumbered by the US in ships. Throw in NATO it was even worse. The situation at sea was the reverse of what it was on land. The Soviets only hope at sea was, if it didnt go nuclear, to slow down the seaborne reinforcements from the US. The soviet navy was, a best, a speed bump.

the 89' VLS Perry is based on the Adelaide class RAN of the 2000's with 8cell VLS ahead of the Mk13 with 32 ESSMs and SM2MR fired from the mk13 the ships with SM2ER all have the MK10 launcher which has two barrel style launchers set horizontally behind the launchers feed from the doors behind the launcher, CGN9 has extra magazines for the second mk10 as there is deep enough deck below for 4 barrels instead of two, so 40 missiles for launcher 1 and 80 for launcher 2....

It shouldn't surprise you if you take a look at the ridiculous numbers the mod maker gives the modern variants. He used numbers which are beyond the most optimistic fantasy propaganda numbers as far as sensors and reliability. Nothing I've seen from public, reasonably reliable sources puts these systems at anywhere near the effectiveness the modder used. Realistic numbers suggest at best 60-70 % hit rates versus unguarded, undefended, non maneuvering targets. Once you add in layered air defence and ECM and EW, that number plummets. The modder is clearly not trying to make a realistic approximation of reality, because the hit rates exceed even the most optimistic numbers. That is just not how you make a realistic mod.

Regarding your comment at about 26:50, The CGN USS Long Beach (as built) had the same sort of 60's radar panel set-up as the CVN USS Enterprise. Those big slab sided superstructures were, to a child of the revolutionary 60's, a beautiful thing, epitomising the march of science - like the Apollo space program. Whilst I begrudgingly appreciate that nowadays radar emitters are a lot smaller, and my PC has 1000 times the computing power of NASA in 1969, I don't give two fux - it's not ugly. You millennials should have more respect for the architecture of the revolution, and Admiral Rickover. Rather than mocking the scientific '60s you should grasp the revolutionary spirit and use it to flog a few authoritarian dictator types who are currently bigging it up on social media.

The Longbeach was so ugly, because it was one of only a handful of nuclear powered cruisers built way back in the day. The idea was that nuclear CV's would be speeding around at 30+ knots everywhere they went and thus the navy needed other nuclear powered ships to keep up with them. Since no other ship has the ugly, flat (square) config it must have something to do with the nuclear power plant. Great scenario.

I would disagree with the idea that you can't use these mods, you just have to balance the power - if that means more numbers on one side vs. the other, so be it. That's how it works in the real world. In the cold war, tech and numbers did a leap-frog and one side always had an advantage over the other. We just adapted and compensated one way or the other.

What would happen if group of subs surface directly in the middle of an American task force and everybody fired missiles
@chriskerwin3904
@chriskerwin3904 12 сағат бұрын
You wouldn't engage the subs with missiles, they have torpedo launchers for that purpose. Otherwise you would use something like an ASROC which is a torpedo launched by a missile.
