I like your video series generally but this one resonates with me in a particularly vivid way. As a child and young fellow of the West Marsh during the 1950s and 60s I remember well the experience of visiting many of the cinemas you mention. It all ignited a life-long interest in films and filmmaking.

I went to The Ritz on Grimsby Road when they had the Saturday morning children's films. I did see The Nolans on Cleethorpes Pier and David Essex at the Little Theatre, Riby Square (how the mighty fall!) Our English teacher took us on a school field trip to the Odeon on Victoria Street to see Hamlet (or was it Macbeth) I know we were bored to tears.

Bernie winters had the his St. Bernard called schnorbitz , I remember seeing the Sex Pistols at the winter gardens also I was a part of the music workshop witch was a government training scheme that was located under the underpass on wintringham road and down a lain just behind Ainsley park well we actually performed at the winter gardens as well I use to go to Tiffanie’s or tiffs as it was known before I started going to jezzadels that was at the end of Humberston Road across from the beachcomber

The Tower showed Game of Death a Bruce Lee film whic he died half way through but that wasnt released until 1978 Ian i saw the fikm and it was a big box office hit i remember hudreds of peoiple queing up outside.

Hi Ian. Bit of info for you. Pennies were, confusingly, abbreviated to 'd'. This is because the Latin word for this coin was 'denarius'. A still smaller Roman coin was an 'obulus'. Cheers Dave
