I am surprised that there was no mention of "Sore Throat". They were definitely one of the pioneering grind bands in the mid to late 80s. Death to Capitalist Hardcore EP (1987). I'm not a big fan of grind/noise/core, but that album has all the ingredients. They took the minimalist to the extreme, with ultra-short songs, very raw, guttural and screaming vocals, short short short, fast blasting songs. I mean that EP had 40+ songs ... most of which are under 30 seconds. I don't know how much influence they had on other bands ... they seemed to be pretty anti-everyone, but they were there when grindcore was starting to form life.

Sewn Mouth Secrets at 10 years old brought me into extreme metal. I found the song on a peer2peer website, I typed in 'metal' and 'slayer' (because that was the band I liked most on GTA Vice City) and the first song that downloaded was that song (the EP version). If I remember right, it was titled as "Cradle of Filth vs. Fear Factory". It took a couple of years before I found out it was actually Soilent Green.

Awesome picks. It was really nice to see a band like Nasum up there; i got to watch em by accident (they were the last and surprise act at a fest I went) and they blew me away like a freakn' fresh of a speed'n'brutal hellfire :'j All in all, nice top 10 x')

Good program but the conditions for select a Grindcore Essential Album are not clear. Because I heard any like sounds good, influenced another bands, early appearing, etc.

Misery Index's Overthrow E.P is insanely underrated.

I assume the band Misery brought up at the end of the show was the Minnesota band, not Misery Index. They were more like Amebix, mixing metal and punk. I could be wrong, and they are more "crust punk"(perhaps another video), but they need some attention anyway.

Lock Horns - mmmmh I would have included INFEST as an important influence as well but that's probably due to my "Hardcore Punk" bias I have. Anyway good debate. :-)

PLEASE DO AN EPISODE ON POWERVIOLENCE. such an under rated niche genre.
@piotrb8434

Powerviolence is not a real genre. It's just extremely fast hardcore. The term "powerviolence" originated as a joke and wasn't meant to be taken serious, but of course genre obssessed nerds promoted it as a real thing. Same goes for speedcore, fastcore, thrashcore, funcore, hatecore, moshcore, speed metal, power metal, white metal, viking metal, war metal, djent, grebo rock and other worthless garbage.

How does the co-host mention how Soilent Green (Sewn Mouth Secrets) changed everything for him....and then leave that off the list??? That needs to be here. Glad Pig Destroyer (Prowler in the Yard) made it.

one of my favorite lines from reek of putrefaction is" being gnawed on by a maggot filled with malicious hate", that is one of the funniest lyrics ever. And yeah that band that era of carcasses influenced a lot of bands from the bands you mentioned two bands like Hemorrhage and vomitorial corpulence big time
@alexesau166

Sam, from previous episodes you seem to have this stance of not allowing bands with only one legendary album to join the family tree. However, what I notice about several grindcore legendary bands is they are mostly one-off projects. Either the band does one or two great albums and breaks up, or they start out playing sloppy grindcore then they refine their sound in a death metal style. Is grindcore the exception because the output is such an onslaught of brutality? Is having an entire discography lasting only 30 minutes enough to leave an impact? Granted I’m not the biggest fan of grindcore, I like music that’s a little more developed and melodically structured, which is why I like the later Carcass records.

Actually, we are not. It's a multi-camera live stream shoot and that has some software issues that sometimes rear their heads. Sorry for the problems this week. Although it's always fun to read the avalanche of comments about how we should use this or that mic, it has nothing to do with the mics.
