Mason looks dapper and shows he knows a bargain, “one man’s junk is another man’s treasure,” plus a great back story for the Gierok channel. He should sew on a Carhartt logo on the breast pocket to really be in uniform.

In 1969 our farm changed from cobs to seed corn. The look of pure joy and comfort of my dad driving the JD 45 with a cab was wonderful. No heater either. Big change from driving the Oliver Super 88 with a heat houser [nearly useless canvas heater engine wrap thing] To a self propelled combine/corn picker. Yep, progress. His last tractor was that Turbo 1066. It was good to see his last years farming in comfort. People don't realize how rough the weather during corn harvest can be in Mid western Minnesota at Thanksgiving time. Snow, freezing temperatures and Long johns. Farmers are a tough bunch of men and women.

It's Really good to see farmers who use their heads , put down tarps or plywood when they already know that there's going to be grains dropping on the ground for easier ups . Every little bit counts over the years and a lifetime .

Everyone needs a feed grindin' suit. Just ask Oliver Wendell Douglas, he'll tell you. Grandpa would have bitched up a storm leaving that nice elevator full like that. He always said it was too hard on the chains starting it back up and he despised fixing the chains. Thanks again for a great video. Best regards from Indiana.

Grinding ear corn as a kid consisted of filling "gunny sacks" after milking Saturday mornings, tossing them into the trunk of a 1953 Chevrolet, and dropping them off at the local elevator to be ground..... all before 9 a.m., because that's when confirmation class started at the lutheran church..... I don't believe I was ever on time for class! There were some things that were NOT so good about the "good old days". Thank you for sharing. Ron

When I was young, poor country boys from the one room school house would come to the school in town in 9th grade. Their jackets were old suit coats and they had bowl haircuts. If Mason had a bowl haircut , he would fit right in. All those boys I knew grew up to be hardworking productive citizens.

Good to see the three of you working together and adding a little humor. A little humor makes for a lot better working environment. Mason the rats always look bigger when they surprise you. I remember when I was young we had a crib that was down in the bottom not too far from the creek and I swear the rats where the size of beavers and the black snakes looked like anacondas.😄😄As usual another excellent video.

On our hog and beef farm we would grind 8 ton of feed a week. We did have a granary with 6 overhead bins.We filled it with 40ft leg.We would have to grind almost every day of the week. On nice warm fall days it was easy. But when it was 30 blow it was not so much fun!! We had 600 to 800 hogs to feed every day.Plus 50 to 60 fat cattle too.I can remember the almost sweet smell of new corn 🌽 being ground up.I also remember how fast my fingers would freeze on those 30 below days!! Still miss it,nice to watch your farm still mixing thier own feed. Thanks 😎.

Always love to hear about bargains too. Seriously, enjoyed seeing you all working together and having a sense of humor too is encouraging. Hope the rest of the corn harvest went well and you are able to keep warm. Looks like it is getting cold near there from the weather maps. Love your videos, brings back memories from when I was a kid on the farm. The following occurred in the mid 1950’s when I was 14 or 15. I was grinding corn, had our F-20 belted up to the hammer mill. I liked how every time when I threw a shovel full of corn into the hammer mill the belt would twitch and the Farmall’s engine would pull down a little. Then I got this bright idea, wondered if I could shovel corn fast enough to stall the F-20’s engine. Shoveled for all I was worth and watched the belt fly off!

in the olden days before 2020 we ground feed with 2 mixer mills 7 days a week from 6am til 8pm just to feed the pigs, we now upgraded and have a box mill in each hog barn and have a 10,000 bush bin beside each barn along with 2 smaller bins for minerals etc and other additives. sure reduced our daily work load for a few weeks cause work is never finished on a farm that is feeding the world.

brings back memories of grinding ear corn on the family farm when i was young in the 60's and 70's using an old Allis Chalmers tractor with a belt driven stationary hammer mill, and of course the grain scoop shovel too. The ground feed from the hammer mill was blown into a room in a wooden granary, and then we had to shovel the ground feed into sacks. The whole grinding process was very dusty, and a little scary too, when it was my turn to be the one feeding corn, wheat, and oats, sometimes mixed with hay, into the hammer mill. We only had one dairy cow, but a lot of hogs to feed. Dad never got around to buying one of those nice pull type feed grinders with PTO that you are using, since he had 5 boys to do the shoveling and sacking, hehehe. Thanks for the video (*_*)
