This is how I made all my shaper knives back in the day, I finetuned them with a die grinder and table saw. I now have a CNC template maker and Knife grinder. Love the video.

As an industrial woodwooker, toolmaker for more than 30 years always make sure the serrations on the knives are positively meshed and the knives are balanced, I learned the hard way. No matter how tight they are they will fly out if they are not. Always take your time when setting knives and double check very closely and use a barrier between you and the knives on startup, ALWAYS! Never be in a hurry when using any machinery. You also can tape a manila folder pattern on the front side of the knife with double back tape and grind to the pattern. I use norton vitified bonded 1/4"x 10" grinding wheels. and dress them to as small as 1/16" thick for small inside radius' and I use a 5 degree relief angle it works best for me. I have worked all types of industrial machines from moulders, overhead pin routers, rip saws to cnc routers. The one thing I learned is take your sweet ass time.

Nice video and ton of effort. What is the HP on that spindle shaper? 5hp or 3hp?

Does anyone know, do you have to make a blade edge once the shape is ground out. Is it like a knife blade when finished? Sorry newbie here

What type off wheels did you use. They seamed to cut right through.

If I send you a drawing by fax, will you be willing to make me a sharper knife? I need one for my header and the design is similar to the one you made.I would appreciate a response. Thank you.
