Built an 8 foot P-rail and finally got some real grinds! Seth nailed it in his new Epic Grind shoes. I tried frontside, backside and a fakie frontside. Lots of work needed, but finally got the feeling of a real grind and am super excited!

Sir, you have inspired me(32) to overcome my fear on grinds. 🎉 👏

I still fear the rail at the park, its higher and much harder for me to jump on. I can hit the ledge most times and they are same height, but the thought of missing on that higher rail is scary. I'll get it soon I hope!

Love love love your content! I share these videos with my friends to get rid of their excuses! Because the rail is out of plastic, and your grind block is also plastic, you won't have nearly as smooth of a surface. The plastic is smooth on metal because it can't cut into the metal. It can cut into plastic and will cut into plastic, creating significantly more friction.

You are right, the metal rail at the park is much more slippery - and higher. Working my way onto that slowly.

Awesome progress man! Having a practice rail at home is such an amazing thing to build consistency and confidence.

Awesome dude! I enjoy watching your videos and how excited you get about skating. Backsides used to scare the shit out of me but now they feel better for me than frontside (still a little scary though 😅) Keep em coming 🤙

Yea, I'm still scared of the rail at the park. Its just high enough that getting onto it is hard and I miss enough on the ledge that the thought of missing on the rail is scary. Going to get it soon though I hope!

@@theaverageoldguy i'm going through the same thing at the moment. The rail at my local park is just a bit too high so i have to jump on it. Luckily there is a small ledge and a bigger ledge, so I'm just working on the lower ledge for now and work up to the big ledge and eventually the rail 🤞

love the video. great progress. when I skate my p-rail. I grind it in one direction then come to a stop.then I come back in the opposite direction and try to grind it switch. I feel you miss a free go if you keep going back to the same start point. I hope this makes sense. carry on the great content and keep on enjoying the fun. take care. ✌️

I did switch directions some, but my driveway is slanted and its much easier in the downhill direction!

Just remember to keep that back foot slightly behind you and not right under you when you jump and turn that 90deg. Picture your legs making an A shape a little more than shoulder width apart. More stable and faster stance. The infamous slip and slam comes with the straight, parallel leg stance.

I am way too familiar with that slip and slam. Working on the "A" frame stance. It causes me a lot of pain in the knee of that back leg, so I am trying to see how much can go out and still manage the pain. Not sure if the slam or the back leg hurts worse at this point, but I am getting better at the "A".

Doing an awesome job bro. Maybe try off the edge of concrete to the grass. Run up on the concrete & grind on the grass. Practice getting speed the poppin into frontside position. If the rail is on the grass will be more forgiving if you fall. It's good your jumping on straight away instead of stepping on, good form. Could see the progression in the clip for sure.

Thanks. I can jump on the frontside and backsides, but I am still stepping on with any kind of soul trick. I don't have a lot of soul on my skates, and the slanted leg position on the soul foot kills my knee, so I am working on those. Not 100% sure which leg I want to use as my soul foot yet.

@theaverageoldguy I didn't even buy my aggressive skate new I bought them second hand to save money then slowly upgrade them to how I liked the (eg new wheels new frames new berings an so on ) would suggest razor SLs nice big soul space it's like grinding on cheat mode really good for beginners

Yea, I don't turn to the right very well going forward and its just easier to turn to the left and land switch. It doesn't feel that bad, I can skateboard both regular and goofy, so I'm hoping the switch side grinds are not going to be too bad. I feel pretty good as long as I don't have to jump very high!
