I think you sold me on that reverse lever...very slick and the whole opening action seems to work VERY well! Great video!!

I'm a knifemaker, so I can give you a little information on the scale questions. The scales being higher than the bolsters is referred to as an "heirloom" or "artifact" transition. It leaves the scales a little thicker and stronger than they would have been if worked down to a smooth transition with the metalwork. Also provides a better grip. On a personal note: I love to use horn on my grips for the very reasons you gave...but there is one caveat! Here in Arizona, there are bugs that EAT HORN! Leave a horn-handled knife in a drawer or simply unattended for a while, and you'll find the grips gnawed away in short order. In my shop, I store unused horn in ziplock bags with mothballs to keep the wee beasties away. Right now, I'm experimenting with a coat of cyanoacrylic glue as a protective finish. Seems to be working!

Years ago i worked at a pvc pipe manufacturer. In the early spring there were these huge junebug like insects that wat pvv shavings. Thought it was cool till one landed on my face and left an immediate blister. Right beneath my eye. This thing intentionally aimed for my eye. Thats when i got a feeling these creatures are more than what we think they are.

Hey Holly, thanks for that review. Myself being an older now retired Gentleman (depending on who you talk to anyway) I've been looking for an auto knife that is perhaps a bit more refined than "tactical". In the past I've owned several Hubertus lever locks with beautiful stag scales, sadly stolen in a burglary many years ago. Being retired means watching my pennies, so the price point is what has kept me from my fondly remembered Hubertus'. Your favorite in the video sure reminds me of German friends size and quality wise. Thanks for your good work, it's a tough job, but someone had to do it !

Hi. About edc an automatic knife, have you encountered any accidental activation while having them in your pocket while fast moving like running? The major thing stopping me from edc a switchblade is the constant fear of it just open in my pocket by accident
@ChimeraActual5 жыл бұрын
A pocket clip pretty much prevents random opening, Leverlocks carried in pocket tend to collect grit in the mechanism, at least my German lever lock did. There are more durable and consistent mechanisms out there. I'd be a little more concerned about an OTF opening in pocket, and most don't feel solid when open. Don't discount assisted opening knives. Some of them are every bit as handy as an automatic, and less likely to open inadvertently. My favorite assist costs about the same as that orange one. I'd mention my favorite brand, but Grindworx probably wouldn't appreciate it. Of course the important thing is the steel

There really is something iconic about that stiletto design isn't there? It's the kind of switchblade you see in movies often..even over more modern switchblades or spring assisted models, for pure cinematic effect it's usually gonna be the mafia or mob guy is gonna have a stiletto..the sound is super iconic too, like the racking of a pump action shotgun, you hear that and it hits your brain and you already know what the other person has on them.

if you want to be arrested in Italy carry one in your pocket, the Italian law on the port of blades is very complex, cumbersome and does not give well-defined definitions and measures; this leaves a lot of discretion to law enforcement and judges; if the knife is a snap, this is an aggravating factor, if they find you with a fixed blade knife in the city it is a big trouble, if you invecesei in a wood it is much less serious etc. etc.

I love these knives but my problem with them is always the same to me : the old school build with non ajustable pivot, the rivets construction. I don't want a riveted pivot, I want to be able to adjust it with a screw. I don't like the blade play it develops and the need to hammer it to try and tighten theblade. In that regard, the new style Campolin are winners for me.

I've always disliked sloppy, uneven transitions from scale to bolster. The attention to detail, the"fit and finish" are important to me. Otherwise I feel like I'm looking at a knife that was made with components stamped out in a cookie cutter style. There have always been outstanding examples of switchblade exceptions to that clumsy design though. It's not a question of comfort, but one of aesthetics. The Due Buoi forged stiletto switchblade comes to mind. It has a beautifully streamlined design. There's a good possibility you might come across a vintage Edwin Jay Italian switchblade as another example that is equally as pleasing to the eye. I own a few AGA Campolin's and I have to say the first knife you displayed disappoints me. For that price a loose lever and the design flaw in the damascus steel blade is unacceptable. I know I may be expecting a lot from these Italian manufacturers, but if they're going to recreate these classic switchblade designs using better quality materials, their quest for authenticity shouldn't include the clumsy design flaws of the originals.

I've always heard that they made switchblades for women. These craftsmen loved their women and tired of them complaining about breaking their nails on finger pulls on their manual knives. The switchblade was them making knives specifically for females. American service men saw them and the rest os history. But they were always intended as weapons. Rogues and highwaymen carried huge switchblades because they were very intimidating.
