Not a lefty, but I've never failed to be satisfied with a Hogue knife. I have a decent collection (production knives--microtech, spyderco, benchmade, etc.) and I put a hogue knife in my pocket every day (I play with the others after work!) They (Hogue) sometimes use inferior materials (e.g. 154CM), but the design and execution with the given materials is always superb.
@TheBootyWrangler Жыл бұрын
At this point in my knife collecting journey I have reached a level of skill as it pertains to maintaining an edge that has left me hardly caring about the specific steel; as long as it has been decently heat treated and is at least as capable as regular old 420. In fact some of my favorite knives that I own in the collection have ended Ik being in 420 specifically for that reason. Even my 63hrc magnacut knives get abused so hard they rarely go a day without experiencing damage to the edge. So when it happens with my cheap knives I am able to quickly fix it. Trying to keep a super steel edge perfect every day when you’re using it for hard blue collar labor type work is a mf nightmare. I can get a 420 blade sharp in 2 minutes using building materials on the job site.

Honestly I feel like hogue's lower priced knives are some of the best value on the market. I don't really like their higher dollar ones though. If I'm going to spend $300-500 on a knife, I'm going to want some better steel than s30v, not that s30v is bad or that they only use that. But you're right they don't really go for the higher end steels as often even with more expensive knives. Call me old school but I still like microtech for otf knives. I'm carrying a dual edge hera right now and can't believe how much I like it. I've always thought that I'd like a dual edge and I was right, it's insanely handy to have full serrations on one side

I thought I was the only one who sticks a bunch of candy in the box when I ship something. Especially international sales. You can find statistics on the most popular flavors in the country you are shipping to. Then find out what kind of candy isn’t sold there. I was shipping something to a country that loves peanut butter candy, but doesn’t have Reese’s. Apparently, certain luxury stores import them to sell for hugely inflated prices. So I grabbed two of every Reese’s variety at my local store and basically used peanut butter cups in place of packing material.
@infasis4 ай бұрын
That's awesome. I'd import a lot of videogames and stuff from Japan/Asia, and sometimes they'd have little extras, or use their local paper as packing paper, but I don't think I ever got candy.... I love their candy, as it's generally less sweet and normal colors, rather than our dye your tongue crap too... You guys sold me. Adding candy/snacks needs to become standard practice!
@MrJackets4 ай бұрын
Every once in a while I get a single tea bag or some candies when I import stuff, always makes me laugh. Though sometimes it can cause some issues with customs. In one very specific instance, Japanese customs blocked a package because on the declaration, the item was listed as gum, which it wasn't. It was some blind boxes of NFC figurines for a nintendo switch game, but because of the theming and marketing everything had food names. I do a bit of domestic shipping and it isn't a problem as long as it isn't liquid, just something to keep in mind.

60-61 is ideal. But not for edge retention. 60-61 is good for well rounded use
@LeftyEDCАй бұрын
I think that has been disproven but to each their own. If u have an edc knife you would want 64. In a fixed blade even id want 62. 60-61 is just on the soft side. But its kind of subjective

ugh I wish OTFs are CA legal. it's so unfair, i'd love to use one for work

Right. This one looks like the same idea on my Microtech Navy Scarab

Generally, the cheaper an OTF the more metallic ding, good ones make more of a thunky click.

I don't really understand the concept/purpose of these kinds of knives. Is it that you don't flick the switch until you're already moving the handle towards someone's eye?
@LeftyEDC Жыл бұрын
Huh? No its so u can easily use it one handed. They are very popular with EMS folks because they can get them open in areas a folding knife could not get into or a fixed blade could not safely get to.
@subspaceanomaly Жыл бұрын
@@LeftyEDC I'm guessing EMS doesn't stand for extra marital sex in this instance. But unless you're trying to open the knife inside a tube I'm struggling to see how it would make any difference.. not saying you're wrong and thanks for the reply!

@@subspaceanomaly it stands for Emergency Medical Services. I meany police officers, EMS, Firemen, etc. they can reach into something and open the knife to cut things/people loose. They can also use them to cut seatbelts without having to shove a blade under the belt and into someones chest when cutting it loose. I also have Shorts showing that these double action otfs do not penetrate through things. I wouldn’t aim it at an eye, but if u test it against cardboard or even paper sometimes it will not deploy all the way and just lightly poke it. You are only looking at the movie type stuff, knives are tools. Yes some are designed to be weapons, but most are meant for a purpose as a tool
@subspaceanomaly Жыл бұрын
@@LeftyEDC thankyou, and that makes a lot of sense. It doesn't help that the general American frontier survivalist genre is so predicated on violence and the fantasy of violence, but I agree knives are tools and great tools. I've found fixing up houses and building furniture that a knife is one of my most used tools. The seat belt thing, I'm surprised they don't use special scissors for that.

@@subspaceanomaly can’t have everything on u at all times. I think raptor rescue shears could work. But even then u have to shove something into the person. Im sure there are better explanations but do u see cops walking around with shears as well as everything else on their belts? Haha
