Hi guys I have seen your presentation a couple of times it is very interesting in the narrative, but it is obvious that it applies to the rich tourist crowd prices for the general population are much much cheaper. I know of gringo friends that live in Nicaragua on their $1000.00 social security check and they do it nicely obviously not going to the fancy gringo places. I live in costa rica on a $2000.00 plus income and it is not enough even when I OWN my house.

You're right most of us can't afford McDonald's, local food in the markets is way more cheaper you'll get lunch for around 2$. There's a place in diriamba where you can get breakfast (frijoles, eggs, tortilla cuajada and coffee for 1$)

I pay 40 euros for lashes in Ireland, 28 for shellac and 9 for a mc Donald's meal. So these prices in nicaragua really seem high considering Ireland is like the second richest country in the world and really expensive to live in

Bless Irenka. She answered all the things I was curious to know about - nails, laser hair removal, etc. So interesting about tampons. I didn't remember that from my time there. I must have brought my own with me. I was actually surprised at a lot of the prices. While it's much more affordable than the US, a lot of things are way more expensive than here in Argentina. For example, to do laser hair removal full package (full leg, bikini, armpit, upper lip) here in Argentina is like $10-$20. And to do gel semipermanent nails is around $8. I guess people should come to Argentina for laser hair removal! hahaha

Greta video, seems like speaking Spanish can go a long way in negotiating the price of some services. I can see where some people might think prices aren't that cheap, but there are places were the costs are inflated since tourists wont argue too much. if you speak Spanish your experience will be A LOT different.

Evidently, the tendency of Nicas to swallow their d’s, plus a change in the spelling to make it more phonetic in Spanish, resulted in “ray”.

The way the tampon situation was explained to me when I stayed with a family back in the 1980’s was that pads were for “chicas” and tampons were for “mujeres”. Make of that what you will (I guess nobody wants them because buying them marks you as “una mujer zángana” …? 🤷🏻‍♀️). Fortunately, I knew to bring an ample supply because, in those days, it was just expected that there was a shortage of EVERYTHING.

This honestly sounds more expensive than Ecuador or Colombia and about equal to some of the cheaper or more middle of the road places in Mexico. Kind of disappointing because I thought Nicaragua was the cheapest Latin American destination.

Plus compare electronics and gasoline prices between the two countries, Colombia is cheaper hands down.

@@anaquintanilla7003 No it really isn't. In Colombia you can rent a 2bed 2bath apartment for $225 a month water and electric included. It's even possible to buy 2 story homes for as little as 70k in some spots there. electronics and gasoline are are quite bit cheaper in Colombia.

Really interesting to see this breakdown for normal day-to-day things one might need. I think the biggest issue for me regarding travel to Nicaragua is the near constant reports and travel warnings regarding escalating violent crime and political unrest. Even sailing cruisers avoid Nicaragua because of rampant piracy in the area. From everything I've seen online, it's an absolutely beautiful country, but if I don't feel safe going then it really doesn't matter how much things cost. You know?

Hey, thanks for watching! More often than not, political unrest in a country will not affect tourists in any violent way. Sure, you may have flights cancelled or roads blocked, but you will not be unsafe. When it's truly unsafe, airlines won't even fly there. And yes, that happened to Nicaragua many years ago but it felt extremely safe while I was there in 2022 and I did not feel threatened in the least bit. If you really wanna go see it, I encourage it highly! I have another video on Ometepe Island, one of the most unique travel destinations I've ever been to! You probably run more life risks crossing the street in NYC than hanging out in Nicaragua. Cheers!
