I would love a longevity test. Maybe do half your windshield in typical rain-x applicator and the other half of the windshield with this Griot's and see the difference a week or two later.

The reason they might want two coats is to use/sell more product and make more money. Might be worth testing one versus two coats.

Kelseigh Rois Even when using to heavy coats like I did you still use hardly any product. I did 3 cars and a truck with it and the bottle is still over 3/4 full. I believe they have you layer it for durability. I used to much in this video. I watched Griot’s video on this product and they added a lot to their applicator so that’s what I did. You don’t have to add that much and I didn’t when I did my vehicles.

Kelseigh Rois - If you looked at standard (used) windshield glass through a microscope, you'd discover something quite amazing (actually, the same goes with the glass of quality optic photographic lenses! www.shineprowindowcleaning.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/diamond-gelsight-768x576.jpg ), so my guess is - that by applying the coating the way showed in this video, you might just achieve the ultimate 'covering' of the myriad surface 'irregularities' - making the glass surface as 'plane' as possible with the help of the product used! . . . . . .

so if they sell moisture cream and they say apply liberally, are they saying that so you can use a LLOOTT of it rather than just enough so you have to buy more often? What the fk are you smoking? Use however much you want of the product you buy. Stupidest fking comment I've seen in a while. Use your brain i guess

I am glad you enjoyed the results, it works so well. I have been using it since last August. I have switched from Adams to Griots based upon cost and performance. To make this go farther try using less on the applicator, you used about three times more than necessary. Second tip is only one coat on side exterior glass is suggested. Those have no wiper rubbing it away. It will still be working for 2-3 months but remember to clean the glass especially after pulling into the garage after the rain storm. This sounds weird but just like your paint the windshield collects all that road grime spray. If allow to set overnight the grime then adheres same as does on your paint. Then next day with or without wipers the water will not roll off easily once you hit 40-mph. It will shed but not the same as if you had cleaned it off. Try that test on your next rainy period, driver is clean but not the passenger side. As to bugs hitting the windshield, it works like a slip-n-slide. For the record I use Aquapel on one car windshield but it might last longer but the cost and coverage is a second to GG Glass Sealant for the price. This should not be allowed on your paint, take caution and wipe off if gets on paint. Sam and Nick did a Friday live video on this and covered application tips, wish I could find it again. Keep up the videos, enjoying every one you do.

I've been using Rainx for years. All these products use an acidified alcohol as a water repellent. If you use a paper towel or just plain microfiber cloth instead of your microfiber covered sponge, you will use a lot less of the product. It typically lasts about 3 months for me and as far as ice sticking to glass, I've haven't noticed any difference.

I've been using this stuff for years on my cars and it really does work better than any other similar products I've tried. As little as you used, you still used more than you needed too. You are better off using a microfiber cloth to apply instead of one backed up with a sponge: The stuff soaked up by the sponge is simply wasted. I re-do mine every six months. (I also use the RainX additive in my squirters, and that extends the life of the Griots a whole lot.)

The problem with all these rain repellants for me is that its not "hose level of water against glass" its the mist. mist will stick until it reaches certain bead size. It works great on highway speeds as air will move it but in town its meh, starts to creek the blades as its on its way out (which is way too fast). Can you please do the test on real situation? Actual drive, city/highway?

The smell of rubbing alcohol is because the sealant is alcohol based and it uses alcohol because of how quickly it evaporates. It's only used as a carrier to disperse the sealant and leave only the sealant behind.

Rain x and Aquapel or any other sealant has the same compounds. Isopropenyl for cleaning any residue so that it can stick, silicones for keeping the sealant stuck to the windshield, and polydimethylsiloxanes for actually creating the low surface tension that repels water. The silicon compounds filling pores in the glass also helps.
@errornamefieldempty8614

Rainx carrier is predominantly isopropyl alcohol and acetone. Aquapel uses a different distillate as a carrier. Just based on carriers alone. Additionally, application of rainx best when the carrier flashes off leaving the thin coating of silicones whereas Aquapel should not be allowed to dry before removal. They are very different products.

I used to buy all Griot’s Garage products back in the days that I could afford a Corvette! I thought all of their products were really the highest quality. Damn, I bought a hose reel from them for $200, 20 years ago and although the blue housing is really faded, the hose and reel still function as they should! However, I also thought their products were the highest priced products in their categories on everything they sold. But you know the type of guys that can afford and are so enamored of their “ luxury sports cars” are not only willing to pay for those products they’re almost insistent on paying the highest prices! It feels so empowering to some to be able to say to whoever will listen, “ hey, I use the most expensive wax in the world on my 911 or whatever they drive. I think a lot of them would actually park their wives in the garage and slide their car in the bed next to them! But hey, try some of that stuff on your windshield. I’m betting you won’t be disappointed!

Luke S This sealant isn’t even expensive it’s $8.99 on the website. Everyone says it’s expensive compared to RainX but it’s the same price. RainX sells theirs in 3.5oz bottles and it’s $4 at Walmart and Griot’s is an 8 o bottle so in the end it’s the same price for 8oz. Griot’s liquid products aren’t that expensive since they go a long way. Now their tools and like you bought hose reel are over priced for sure.

@@bigmacdaddy1234 it absolutely works and if you go out and clean off your windshield, wipe it down with wax as if you were waxing your car (which means let it dry to a haze) and then buff it off, you will see that it indeed does work. I do it on my personal car and on my commercial vehicle. I don't even need to use my windshield wipers afterwards. Have you ever noticed how water beads off of your car after you wax it? There isn't much difference between the paint on your car and the glass on your windshield. Turtle Wax creates a hydrophobic layer.

Top tip: Wiping with a dry cloth will always leave smears. Wipe it hundred times, same result. IF you wash it with soapy water, or ideally run it though a car wash, after you put it on you will have the cleanest, smear free windows you have (n)ever seen. You WILL lose 20% of it's longevity (estimate), BUT you get to keep 80% and it's fast , easy and streak free.

I would hope this works better than RainX. The problem I have with RainX is it doesn't work very good below about 40 MPH (not enough airstream to blow water away) nor does it work well in fine mist, like that from what tires throw up after a rain. It also builds up where the wipers overlap and my wipers never clear the glass in that area. To be most effective here in the S. FL sun, it needs to be applied about monthly. I need to figure out how to strip it off and reapply on a bare section.

Not a real stellar comparison against a naked window. Do a r/l comparison with a product like RainX (which does not require any surface prep other than simple cleaning). Apply the day before an expected rain and then drive around for a while, wipers on and wipers off (wipers are hell on RainX). Go back a day later and try the bead test again - see which of the two products retains better in the wiper area.

I doubt it's just alcohol, alco won't haze up like that. It's most likely the base solvent for whatever is their formula, either because it's cheap and very fast drying to have a quick process, or it's required for the formula components. Either way, I'm very interested in the results. I'm looking to polish my windshield, and need a good sealant to put over it for the best results I can get for an upcoming roadtrip. I'm experienced on plastic being an aviation mechanic, not glass.

Forgot, as far as removal goes, if you smell alcohol applying it, use alcohol to remove it. Again, it's probably the base solvent, so you know the working product will dissolve in it. Gonna need lots of it and a stack of rags to do it well enough to call fully removed.
