Pan, thanks for the great videos! Couple of questions. 1. How do you know when the coating is starting to wear down and needs to be replaced? 2. What steps do you take to remove the coating when it is time to refresh? 3. As the wiper blades wear, is there a need to reapply to ensure non-chatter? Assuming if you replace your wipers annually, you would apply the coating on the new set?
@PanTheOrganizer5 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul. Thanks for the kind words about my videos. Here are my answers to your questions: 1. It depends on your consitions and mileage. 6 months to a year seems reasonable. 2. Same way as in this video. 3. Yes you should apply a bit of coating on new blades.

At the end of the video you mention using this technique on boats and airplanes. Boats and airplanes tend to have plexiglass rather than glass windshields. Plexiglass is much more prone to scratching, very sensitive to the heat generated during polishing, and is damaged by chemicals like IPA. Perhaps you could do a video on polishing and protecting plexiglass windshields.

Hey Pan, Thanks for making all this great content! I'm always glad to see when you put up a new video. Could you do a follow-up video at 6, 12 and 18 months just to show how the product you've applied has been holding up? I tried a previous suggestion from another KZbinr to use a product I already had in my car cleaning bucket. I don't think that option held up very long, probably a few months at best. It was probably a reasonable time and effort to performance ratio, but I'm curious if doing something like your video here will yield better long term results for time, effort and cost. Also curious to see how a hydrophobic ceramic coating holds up to Canadian salted roads during winter. =)

@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
Many people use an IPA solution to clean glass, jury's still out on the appropriate dilution though. 10-15% IPA is a good starting point. Test on an inconspicuous area first if you're cleaning interior glass with tinted film. Most good glass cleaners are already alcohol based, so it takes the guesswork out of having to get the dilution right. I use commercially available quality automotive glass cleaners myself.

@easy269 You can use regular ceramic coatings. I use a very simple method, I use Adam's advanced spray ceramic coating. I mean, you have to do the full steps of strip wash, decon wash, clay bar, then if happy with how your car looks, spray the ceramic coating on an applicator pad and do 2ftx2ft sections. Headlights, taillights, everything, just don't do the windshield with it. All other windows are fine. There's a video of Adam going through the steps and timing himself clay a Jeep and then applying the coating to the hood.

Great content. I followed this tutorial perfectly with great results. Glass is cleaner than I’ve ever had. All is good during the day but at night, the rain is beading off but my new wiper blades clean off the rain but there is a haze that is remaining for a second after the wiper passes that reflects oncoming headlights. Brutal and worse than reflection off sheeting water. It seems like the product is doing what you said but wondering if you have experienced the ultra clean and ceramic coated glass but reflective haze after the wiper passes. Hoping you can comment before I mechanically remove to get back to a safe condition or make an adjustment. Thanks!

On a new windscreen, you would only need to clean it, use the IPA paint prep spray (like CarPro Eraser) and then apply the coating as per the instructions of the coating you are buying.

Pan, THANK YOU SO MUCH. I have been looking for a howto to remove fine scratches from glass for weeks. During a recent maintenance wash I somehow managed to put a couple of super fine 1 inch scratches in my glass. You can't catch them with your nail and are only visible at night with oncoming traffic headlights. They are right in my line of sight and are driving me nuts. I really hope ceriglass and a glass polishing pad will remove them. I will report back when I get the kit and let people know if the ceriglass was able to remove the scratches. Thanks Again.

Just an update, finally got to try this today. Unfortunately it was not able to complete remove the scratches in my windshield. It did seem to "knock them down" a little, so the glare is not as bad as it was. Might try again when the weather gets nice.
@pezzot095 жыл бұрын
just followed all steps with the same KIT - I hope the treatment will last also in winter conditions with snow and daily frost - video nicely done, good job Pan. One more thing @pan, I noticed that the polish cream from the CarPro kit (applied it 3 times using machine) will not make it neither for fine scratches left by the windshield wiper - have you done this steps by adding sand-paper 1k,2k,3k steps before the polishing step just to dig deeper into the glass and so level the surface some more?

@@PanTheOrganizer Good question. I'm an engineer who was made redundant due to Covid in May. I'm also a car enthusiast with a crazy level of OCD. The first thought after losing my job was to start a detailing business. All I had to do was search "Car Detailing Basics" on youtube and there you were. I believe you were the forth video i watched and loved how you explained everything. I think the first video was from "Chicago Auto Pros" which was interesting but not suitable to learn detailing. It was rather improvised to advertise the business. Unfortunately, there's no much of variety of detailing products in Australia so most of my purchase is online which takes forever to deliver.

Hey pan, quick questions. After the 6months or 2yrs of protection, should I redo the entire procedure? Also are there any products that can be applied over the glass ceramic to help extend the life of the product. The same way you can use ceramic spray from autozone or advance auto parts on top of your vehicles ceramic coating to help extend . Thanks in advance

Thank you very much for all the information and time invested sir. It does appear that with a "new 2019" formula, the coating process had changed a bit. Even though the directions on CarPro's website still mirror exactly what you did. But the box had a notation on the outside and a card on the inside stating that due to a new formula only 1 coat was necessary if you polish the glass.

There have been many advances in technology of coatings, including glass coatings, since this video was launched. Super simple. You can see how I do it in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6THfmCKp7lqnMksi=lWx3ldt-TD5ju59m One bottle is more than enough to coat all the glass surfaces on your semi-truck. First, Thanks for the tutorial!! What do i need for maintenance??? And how many days or months do i need to wait before applying it. Thanks.
@PanTheOrganizer2 жыл бұрын
No maintenance needed. You just wash your car as per usual, and you can also use your automotive glass cleaner as per usual. Depending on your conditions and environment, durability is anywhere from 6 to 12 months. I made a more recent glass protection tutorial here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6THfmCKp7lqnMk
@silentstormstudios4 жыл бұрын
Great tutorial. I'm considering doing this, but im concerned, based on previous experience with products like RainX, that this will just turn the windshield into a mess when driving in dirty, wet conditions due to the wipers being ineffective and just smearing everything across the windshield instead of clearing it. This is due to the frictionless surface that doesnt allow the wipers to get a grip on the windshield surface. While this does save the windshield from scratching, it also makes it hard to see since the wipers don't clear the windshield of water and dirt. Would the same hold true with this coating? The video you included showing rain water beading and sheeting off of the windshield with no wipers in use is actually a condition that i wouldn't be comfortable driving in. Visibility was very poor because the windshield was never cleared of the water and always had a multitude of water droplets and streams on it. Thats why i'm concerned that this could be dangerous if the wipers would be ineffective due to the low friction coating.

@PanTheOrganizer6 жыл бұрын
Speed 5.
@TheJared14456 жыл бұрын
Milan Jurich If you do it to your shower glass, then it will last longer than for a car cause it's not exposed to elements. But just watch out for hard water. Coatings are not immune to hard water spots, they just make them easier to remove.

a friend of mine (not a professional) said he tried nano/ceramic coating on the windscreen but said it compromised the windscreen washer function... in other words, when you actually want the water to stick till you wipe the windscreen the (de facto hydrophobic) coating results in you wiping a "dry" glass
