@jonathanfrancesconi6666 Жыл бұрын
Nah man. I like Saab, but this advert feels like a load of hot air. If you want to impress me with a "new" technology like HMC, then least show how it might be original in any way. The graphics are way more impressive than the information presented. They keep talking about vague improvements the whole time, without substantiating any of it. The concepts they are talking about (HMI and HMC) are standard for every fighter created since 1980. You can't survive without it. They failed to explain how their HMC is different to any other existing HMI. How do pilots receive this discussed data? Headsets, HUD, screens? Standard procedure. How do pilots interact with the plane? Buttons, eye tracking systems, voice activation, joystick? Standard procedure. I call BS. What do you think?
@davidcobra1735 Жыл бұрын
@@jonathanfrancesconi6666 That's exactly what I got from the video too. I think this plane's pretty cool and as far as I know it should be a cheap reliable platform for launching NATO munitions but I hate how they keep insinuating that it has superior this and that, that it's somehow the best plane out there, etc. It's a pretty clever plane designed and built by a small country that doesn't have a huge military budget and its' mission is to counter older non-stealth Russian planes. I mean they come close to outright saying Russia at the beginning of the video. Sweden just doesn't have the money to come up with a next gen platform and while I could be wrong they don't really have the money to buy tons of US made F-35s either. Or maybe they don't want to do it for political reasons. I don't know, I don't exactly keep up with what Sweden does as a country. I know the USA doesn't sell F-22s, F-16s are really old and F-35s are extremely expensive and you have to wait forever for them. Hence this thing in the video. I'd bet my money on an F-35 any day of the week though. It'd probably just launch some missiles at the Griffen and get out of there before the Griffen pilot could even figure out what was happening. Then kaboom as they say hehehe.

@@davidcobra1735 I think you make some good points. No doubt that the Gripen E is a capable, robust and intelligent modern fighter jet - well suited to it's combat role. I saw a very knowledgeable interview stating that Gripen would be the best fighter to send to Ukraine. It was designed to fight Russian in a highly contested environment without full air superiority. Meteor with its special rocket motor can operate at very low altitudes to evade air defences (better than any other western missiles). Gripen can take off from short road-based airfields (shorter than any other powerful/realistic western fighter, apart from the F-35B) and requires a smaller and more portable logistics train than any other western fighter. It is also not sensitive to debris (FOB) to the same degree as other aircraft. Also, not many would be needed to have a significant impact. Only a minimum of 20 would be needed to push back the Russian fighters from the frontline, and facilitate the Ukrainian counter-offensive. Maybe Turkey should let Sweden (and Finland) to join NATO so that we could get to delivering that capability to the Ukrainians!

Such a beautiful, graceful and capable aircraft. I wish it was in DCS, but I know it won't be for many, many years. The data link capabilities are only one of the impressive features the Gripen has. The one that sticks out to me is that it's designed to operate from roadside airbases with limited facilities. That's impressive, smart and one of the things Saab has consistently designed aircraft around since the J-35 Draken, because there's little point in being a game changing aircraft if they can't be flown because all the airbases have been destroyed - now every clear stretch of road long enough and straight enough is a potential runway.

TBH, it sounds a little like what's currently used on the Viper's and Hornet's. Some of the additional sensor systems are definitely a Boon, same with the 3 hard points under the fuselage for mounting Meteors. Definitely sounds like the Gripen is growing into itself and starting to come online with other Western Aircraft. If the price per unit is still good, this could be a serious competitor against the Rafale and possibly the Viper. Information systems equivalent with U.S. aircraft, maneuverability comparable to a Rafale, Good payload and range, amenable pricing for purchase and per flight hour. On paper should be a potent package. For clarification, I actually do really like the Gripen. I think it does have promise. especially if it's continued to be improved on.

most impressive thing about Gripen E, to me, is how small, practical, "low" maintenance, it is. possibly the best thing is its theory of operation. it is truly a well thought out philosophy of use distilled into a resilient piece of engineering. The female personification of the Gripen in this video however, has not actually convinced me of it's sensor fusion capabilities with her words. but she does have a convincing sleek battle-gray outfit. super nice comercial.
@truta3715 Жыл бұрын
It is low, that's true, but nowhere close to what SAAB says... It is supposed to be around U$ 4.000 - 7.000. here in the brazilian air force, the operating costs by hour after 1 year from the arrival of the Gripen-E is around U$ 12.000, but the plane's combat systems have not even come close to being activated, also, the IRST is unequipped to lower costs. So, it's low cost compared to other 5/4++ gen planes, but far from the madness the Swedes talk about. although, what they say about the electronic suite is all true, FAB expects that it will take almost 10 years for all combat capabilities of the Gripen-E to be 100% operational (before that it is necessary to test, research, create doctrines that doesn't exists, train, etc.)

It's far ahead of the super Hornet. FAR FAR ahead. It's ahead of the F35 or equal. The only thing it lacks is a "stealth" fuselage. But it's small so radar cross-section isn't very big and because of the superior radar and sensors and technology. It can detect and defeat enemy aircraft anyway.
