Bro, can you do a video on the Japanese F-2 jet fighter? Spasibo
@martinrivera91864 жыл бұрын
The is Gripen is overrated and never been battle tested. The Gripden and it's poliot might fall apart in a real actual action.. the American fighters go through military combat training daily with live ammo. I'v only seen the Gripen at airshows
@Ferpe24 жыл бұрын
I love your videos and you are very knowledgable. But in this case, I have a little advantage, as was in the team that made Gripen. The base problem was simpler. In all aircraft with flight control augmentation, you divide the control authority between the aircraft's augmentation and the pilot (you only have 100% control surface authority to use, measured in deflection angle and deflection rate which creates the aerodynamic force). This is more accentuated in an unstable FBW fighter as the augmentation needs more of the total authority to keep the aircraft from departing. In the first crash (third flight IIRC) the aircraft had too much of the authority and the pilot (Lars R) fought the aircraft, that he felt was flying its way and not his, to control it=PIO. In the August Stockholm case, the dial was the other way. The FBW team had opened up the pilot's authority so the pilot felt in control, but in a very remote corner of the flight envelope (Q, AoA, G), the aircraft got too little authority to control the aircraft. As the aircraft was now departing, the pilot tried to control it = PIO, but now the other way around. Fix was to introduce a selective FBW filter to reduce the pilot's authority a bit in this remote corner of the flight envelope. The aero fix added to the stability as well but the base fix was a digital filter in the FBW.

In the complete incident video it kind of looks like the Gripen regains control once the pilot is gone. (Would fit with pilot having too much control) Other observations - ejection force helped pushing down the nose (maybe...) - engine gone, so it would not really have recovered anyway (to me it looks like an emergency shutdown due to ejection)
@Ferpe24 жыл бұрын
@@RogerJL Yes, the condition was the pilot could use up too much of the pitch control authority so once the aircraft starting departing Lars (same guy as the first crash) held against violently with stick movements, eating up the stability authority for the aircraft further. Once he took his hand off the stick to grab the ejection handles the aircraft had 100% of the pitch authority and the aircraft returned to stable flight (you could see this on the crash recorders). But Lars was already on the way to eject, he had no chance to sense the aircraft was now OK.

It would be nice to have a copilot AI capable enough to try to land the aircraft safely even after the pilot ejects. It would not help during normal flight any differently than current control authority settings but it might help if the pilot is unconscious or otherwise unable to control the aircraft.

An early version of the F-22 also had a PIO crash. During landing the F-22 suffered from PIO smashing the airframe into the runway leaving a trail of sparks behind it as it skid along the runway. As I remember it they used the same software fix as in Gripen. Don't know if they got it from Saab, or if they fixed it themselves.

@ZeOverman I'm trust that the '10' is a typo, as the P&W-JT8D was used in the DC-9, not the DC-10.
@FangPaw4 жыл бұрын
@Niclas Eriksson It's certainly true that Draken pilots initially learnt the maneouvre in order cope with a superstall, but there are stories of Draken pilots using the Cobra in mock dogfights with Soviet pilots. As to whether this is useful in actual combat is debatable - but it's worth bearing in mind that extreme agility at low speeds served Harrier pilots well in the Falklands conflict.
@oxcart41724 жыл бұрын
I don't know whether they were the 2 incidents mentioned, but I know that SAAB test pilot Per Radestrom had to eject out of Gripens TWICE! He thought his luck might run out if he had to do it again, so he retired after the 2nd one!

You speak english very well. I get your point: in a spin, separated flow over the wings stalled the flow over the rudder making it nearly impossible to regain yaw stability.
@weldonyoung10134 жыл бұрын
Not sure I understand the need for the vortex generators on the Grippen. If the reattached airflow results in asymmetrical dynamics, doesn't that mean the aircraft will fall to one side or the other. Could that be an advantage in a dogfight - unpredictability. Though there would be a lose of altitude. Isn't the most likely flight envelop to be in a hairied dogfight where this would be a concern? But if encountered at low altitude, such as at an airshow recovery altitude might not exist.

@Rikard_Nilsson4 жыл бұрын
Stealth design is highly overrated, it will be obsolete as sensors and jammers get better and better.
@jeanvaljean92934 жыл бұрын
@@Rikard_Nilsson no smart jamming works even better with low rcs that’s why the rafale was designed to be discret. With multistatic radars you will need both passive and active stealth combined. And even more you will need to erase « electronic shadows. » The rafale will get a stealth kit by 2030 to improve passive stealth and boost spectra’s active stealth capacity. And look at the ngf or tempest or faxx they will all be active and passive stealth. Just like the rafale is getting passive stealth, the su57 and f35 are getting active stealth. Its the story of the sword and shield, i dont believe in the all power of stealth like intended in the f35 but it will remain an important feature amongs others

I would love to see many countries buy this Aircraft as the price for what you get is far better than the F35, you may need the F35 but you also need a fighter that can be used along with the F35 has done their job. You can buy an Aircraft that you get more bang for your buck which in many cases most countries need, l really like your video’s on the Gripen
@turnnburn68924 жыл бұрын
WTH are you talking about man... Look, the Gripen is not a bad jet, but it is overrated af today (and that's a lot because of the underdog syndrome and politically correct bullshit that is engrained in many people's heads these days). It's just another 4.5 gen aircraft, and it's far from being the best of that generation. The F-35 is a generation above the Gripen E/F and is, without any doubt, a way better aircraft. AND... right now, an F-35A actually costs less to buy than a Gripen E/F. No one in their right mind, will pay more for a way inferior product. There's a reason why the F-16 continues having new customers and buyers (like Bahrain, Bulgaria and Slovakia), and why the F-35 is already a sales success (even if we exclude all the F-35s that have been bought by Uncle Sam for the USAF/USMC/USN). 😉
@philkelly80314 жыл бұрын
Turn Burn well WTF are you talking about with your bullshit so you think you an Aircraft expert l think not maybe you may have your money on the F35 a totally unproven Aircraft in battle. Which Aircraft costs per flight hour which can carry more even the canon with amount of rounds it can carry is Ridiculous it is supposed to be able to do all jack of all trades. Their is an old say Jack of all trades master of none. This is a fact that the Military said it could do and cannot you actually have 3 different model not just two, you have one for the Air Force One Vertical take off the the Navy version that has a larger wing span. I would love to see it take one the roll such as the A10 an Aircraft that is well and truely proven designed especially to do the Job while America is decommissioning them Russia are building more of their same equivalent attack Aircraft. The Gripen is cheap along with can do the F35 has not been put up against it for you even to say that, the F35 is not the F22 that is very much more Manoeuvrable can carry far more weapons than the F35 no Military should put all their eggs in the same basket.any of them as proven throughout history. So get your facts right before making you comment WTF.

good stuff Millenium 7, but this video didn't seem to follow on directly from Part 1 - and bring us thru the development process to certification / operational status. Would really be interested in hearing you discuss the evolution of the Gripen from the A/B to the C/D to the current E/F configurations. I think I speak for everyone in also wanting to see a comparison of the current Eurocanards. Lots of Gripen fanboys because I think everyone likes to root for the little guy - but having watched your other videos discussing the 3 Eurocanards you seem to favor the Rafale if cost was not a consideration. Still, I'm not sure as you've seemingly refrained from definitively naming your favorite - though i think you did refer to the Rafale as the delta wing king?

One thing I never expected starting KZbin was to find someone who was going to do an exegesis of my thought! I can let you have the drafts of my scripts so you can prepare a book if you want... 😃😃. I don't do comparisons, and I will probably make a short video explaining why they are mostly meaningless in this day and age. The Gripen Developement series follows an Aerodynamic/Structure/Propulsion scheme. There is material available about the original project but I don't have enough documentation to do what you are asking, unfortunately.
