GRIS is an utterly gorgeous game about stars, colours, windmills, clockwork, and little creatures that live in rocks. It may also be about something, but I'm not 100% clear on that.

That is correct. Additional fun fact: In some cases languages evolved and now make a distinction between them. In ancient greece there was no blue for example but nowadays there is.

Well it is a grayish teal color (medium brightness, low saturation, very slightly more blue than green on most pixels I sampled), so it can be interpreted as either green or blue depending upon your display, lighting conditions, and what your brain decides about the context of the rest of the picture.

First guess I've got going into this: Gris means grey in Spanish, so it's got something to do with the Grey Goo theory. Edit: Nope, it seems I was way off the mark. Also, it being Spanish or possibly Latin would account for the non-French pronunciation.

This reminds me so much of Journey for the ps3... you were this.. robed thing.. and you saw a light in the distance and you had to make your way through various levels to get there. The girl even looks similar with the stick limbs and stuff

A game you might like Jon, is Jotun. You walk around with a big axe, murdering embodiments of nordic runes. Oh, and it's amazing it's art style. It is a bit fast paced (2-3 hours of gameplay max) but the fact remains, it has all of Jon's favorite things; Mythology, Amazing Art, Fun powers, and gigantic structures.

The developers Nomada Studio may be based in Barcelona, but Gris still means pig in norwegian. It can be used both to describe the animal but also a mess like a kid who has made a mess in the kitchen.

As others have mentioned, gross is also Spanish for gray, and it is pronounced similarly to the French word, but with the s annunciated. It seems that the studio behind the game, Nomada, is Spanish. I suspect the pronunciation you were given is the gringo friendly one so that us Americans can say it 😉 I like the Spanish and French versions much better, with the slight roll of the r.

Dear devs, anytime you have a game that you're not sure will be loved, check Jon's channel first. Several games I've seen him try and through his playthrough, was able to see how likely I was to like it. Even in genres I don't normally gravitate towards, his initial playthroughs have "shown me the light", as it were.

Jon you are correct with GRIS being grey in French, and can also mean dull (in colour), and the person who told you to pronounce it "grease" can also be correct, as that is the feminine pronunciation, which as she is a woman would be appropriate . Although then it should be spelt grise, so still remains a bit of a mystery.
