Lessons learned the hard way. That's bowhunting.
And I think this is what I love most about it.
Just like life, a roller coaster of highs and lows. It's the ultimate drug. A rush that's almost impossible to top.
This is why we're addicted.
Northern Michigan is a challenging place to hunt. Endless acres of non descript public land. Challenging terrain types that's manipulated by the DNR and high pressure. One of the most challenging hunts in the country for a drop in hunter.
It's a challenging place to hunt but well worth the trip. The setting is absolutely gorgeous, and if you've never hunted northern Michigan, we highly recommend giving it a shot some time. Just being in that atmosphere is a special experience any hunter can appreciate.

Just shot one and got it on camera too and the hit was exactly where your shot placement was. Deer was not recovered either. I thought it was a great shot and would had never thought it would go unrecovered..

What an aweful deal. I listened to this whole story on kevins podcast, now its all coming together seeing the footage. Absolutely crazy that you did not find that deer, the shot looked perfect. Things happen, just too bad, completely out of your control. Big bucks die hard, cant beleive that one didnt drop in 100 yards.

My heart breaks for you I know the feeling I lost a 150 class buck after a high angle quartering away 5 yard shot. I felt like my shot placement was perfect with no exit hole hitting the opposite shoulder and I did not recover the buck. I was sick with disappointment and 5 years later it still stings.

Man what a tough lesson to learn. Been there myself. Rule I always use now, if that deer isn't dead within 150 yds on a good blood trail we back out, it's 6 hours minimal wait till we track. Hasn't let me down yet. Even a further back hit, don't even look for blood more than 50 yards, just get out quietly and opposite direction the deer ran. Wait is 12 hours or more.

I think I hit him a little low and got a single lung. Will never know for sure. The arrow was sticking straight up, perpendicular to the ground when we found it so it definitely deflected too, maybe off a rib or something?
