My colleague told me she got sick of a ego guy friend telling his NS time in commando, she told him try carrying a bag of rice ard his waist for 9months daily sleeping, working, shit and climb stairs then talk again. He shut up I heard. So yup she said he won’t understand but yet he and myself as a guy who did NS also won’t understand being pregnant.
@jonjonhyper8324
@jonjonhyper8324 2 жыл бұрын
@@sjp5136 erm that's like two separate points altogether & sorry no offence, is like pretty toxic. We men and woman are genetically born & built differently whether or not we wanna admit it. That's why woman are better at certain things(taking care of children e.g) while men are better at certain things(jobs that requires alot of physicality e.g). (Disclaimer, this is not to say they have to only stereotypically do a job in relation to their "gender". It's just which gender will dominate that industry more. E.g more guys are in engineering while more ladies are nurses) So why is there a need to compare who is "suffering" more? Then in this aspect, why don't your friend also say "eh guys wear high heels la then yall know how we feel". Why not she say "eh guys yall try to put some liquid around your private area so yall know how it feels like to have menses". Like the point is...? Having said so. When I said this is something girls will never understand, I'm merely referring to the camaraderie formed during your NS days. The tough times, the tough outfield when you have to push through with your bros to get to the end, "THAT" experience is what I'm saying that girls will never understand. So once again no offence, yr friend bringing her "pregnant pain" to undermine his experience in NS is like err...speechless. but ofc, idk her that ego friend from commando how "ego" he is, maybe she just wanna put him in his place whatever but my pt here is, there is no need to compare la. Ever heard of this saying, someone else's suffering don't mean lesser just because you feel yours meant more! I was in Commandos and damn proud to be one but i also love my mother to know the tough things she go through as a woman. These are all separate matters. If your friend really wanna bring this idea around to guys asking them to carry this weight around their waist for 9 months then I also strongly suggest you ask your female friend to take out 2 years of her precious time..away from freedom etc and serve the nation! Its like what's up with this I'm a female im suffering more? Ben Shapiro once said, "Woman & children can be loved unconditionally while men is only loved by how much value he can provide". We men "suffer" more criticism etc, having to be responsible for family etc. Must toughen up etc. So does your female friend wanna experience that? Wanna compare "which gender goes through more?". Well i think there is no need to in any aspect la. No gender is more superior than the other. We love our mom and dad both equally because without either of them, we are not really "complete"! So we love them both as they raise us up together! So yeah that's my point. Cheers! :)

@@jonjonhyper8324 thanks for your reply. We are both on the same wavelength. I think my female friend was just peeved as we guys always talk about soccer or NS haha. I was not a driven commando or determined diver but a dog handler and the dog is 1000% man best friend. But across vocations, when we buddies kena confine we hated it but today we talked about it and laughed and the ladies just get bored. They dun understand I guess but they do appreciate our sacrifice for nation :)

@sdq sdq No war experiences but plenty of humanitarian experiences. In the East Timor conflict to the middle east, from earthquakes in nepel to tsunami in Aceh, we were there providing security to the civillians, tending to the injured, rebuilding what was destroyed and making friends not foes. Even in this pandemic, many of our NS men sacrificed their time away from family and risked their lives at the frontline of the treatment and prevention.

I'm wondering if someone from the SAF can answer this as I don't understand the NS system (I'm from Canada). I looked up a few of the trainees on LinkedIn and many have moved on to other careers. Some show that they spent about 2 years in the SAF as part of their National Service ("conscripts"?). I just don't understand why the SAF would put this much training and effort into non-career soldiers/sailors or compared to requiring a 4-5 year contract, which is common in other countries systems. This is no disrespect to the grueling training that these men are going through. It just seems like a crazy amount of resources and effort to put into soldiers/sailors who then don't really stay in the SAF. Or is the idea that a small proportion of these men then join the regular force? For example, the comparison is made between the level of training these NDU sailors go through compared to other elite units around the world. Except, no one would expect an American Navy SEAL or UK SBS operator to just stay in the military for 2 years. Are these NDU graduates encouraged to stay in the SAF? I would appreciate if someone with knowledge/experience in this area could enlighten me.
@amsyar5381
@amsyar5381 2 жыл бұрын
the SAF has a reservist system, where servicemen go back for 2-3 weeks a year for 5-10 years to maintain a state of readiness with the special forces units most are encouraged to(if im not wrong) stay on or are only open to SAF regulars other vocations that require a large amount of training and investment like Pilots are not given to National Servicemen but instead available to those who sign up with SAF, where they then serve the longer contracts
@amsyar5381

and most if not all able bodied Singaporean males can be recalled to serve the country in defense if need be. and also Singapore is rich and can afford to train a small batch of recruits(comparatively small) with state of the art equipment
@lesterwong1837

The bulk of these NS boys will learn and perform underwater demolition after this course. It was supposed to be 2.5 years service before SAF amended it to 2 years. A small amount of trainees will opt to sign on during or after the course to become career soldiers while the rest will leave the service to join private sector. They’ll still see each other yearly for reservist unless medically downgraded. This group will join the ranks of underwater demolition group (UDG) upon graduation. For the career soldiers, they will go on to learn more specialised training after posting to their respective departments. The reason why SAF invested so much on them because these boys will be first group of soldiers to be deployed in case a war breaks out. Even the beds in NDU are branded. We were sleeping on five star mattresses during the late nineties. I’m not sure about now… From what I see, these boys are sleeping in the old Endurance Blk instead of NDU. 😂
