I’ve lived in Alaska almost all my life and I can tell you that Grizzly Bears are definitely not the most dangerous. They only have the most attacks because polar bears, which I would argue are the most dangerous, are only found north where there aren’t very many people to attack.
@OGYouTubeEnjoyer4 жыл бұрын
Wrong. Grizzly's are more aggressive and territorial. If you switch places with the two Grizzlys would now become more desperate and attack anything that walks like Polar bears do in the barren region they reside. Any predator in a situation like that would be desperate and more aggressive than normally.

Here in Alaska the responsible thing is to break off the fish if a bear suddenly approaches. Don't use leader or line that's too heavy to break off a fish if you have too. Never give up a fish to a bear or they can and likely will become a nuisance and pose a danger to the next poor bastard who comes along. A fed bear often ends up a dead bear.

Nope, for anyone watching this who has never shot a gun, don't start with a Smith and Wesson 500. They didn't show him while he was shooting so it seemed "easy" but you can bet that his wrist was feeling even the single shot after. It's not hard to shoot, it's controlling it after and letting your wrist take the force. Obviously, the caliber is necessary for bears since a fast moving bullet packs less punching power than a slower moving but more "powerful" 50 caliber round.

I've spent 30+ years working in the Alaskan bush throughout the state, and have watched dozens of bears from the ground (and have flown many times with the Lake Clark-based Alsworth flight service - this pilot's family). These fatter bears are more properly termed simply 'brown bears', and 'grizzly bears' are generally considered to be the skinnier brown bears in the Alaskan Interior (e.g., around Denali) that don't have long access to the enormous stocks of really fatty salmon that bears have in the Bristol Bay area (where I expect this was filmed) and other coastal salmon streams, e.g., on Kodiak Is, Bristol Bay, Copper River, Kenai Peninsula), etc, because salmon use up their fat reserves as they migrate upriver into the Interior, and are thus relatively skinny compared with river mouths. During salmon runs, brown bears actually want nothing to do with humans (they rarely want anything to do with humans): the bears only want salmon fat, and usually don't even eat the salmon meat. So unless you're carrying an armload of fresh-caught salmon, or are dragging a landed fish along the beach like a mouse on a string in front of a cat (like this fisher guy is doing), you'll have no bear problems. Bears and humans might often frequent good salmon access spots on a river, and smart humans will leave that spot to the bears, and not compete with them (there are SO many not-smart humans here, mostly, but not always, tourists). In some places, such as McNeil River on the Alaska Peninsula, there are sanctioned public bear viewing places to watch them feed from pretty close-up during salmon runs (look up the numerous McNeil River videos on KZbin), because the bears don't care that you are there. All they want is salmon fat. That said, I always carry a 12 ga shotgun in the bush, in case of surprises, because nothing is more startling/frightening for people and bears than suddenly encountering each other in deep brush (I and my field crews talk and sing quite loudly all day during our work, to tell bears we're around). Apart from those surprise encounters (or sick/starving bears, or bears protecting a stashed big game kill), the only bears that are truly dangerous are a sow with cubs, and then you might be kinda fucked unless you're a good distance away already (and NEVER run from a bear), and you may have a somewhat frightful encounter. While I have had occasion to shoot OVER a brown or black bear to remind him I'm there, I've never had to shoot AT a bear, and have never had any bear issues during salmon runs. I am not afraid of bears, but I am very wary of the potential for bears to be around me. Keep in mind that, historically, bear attacks in Alaska are extraordinarily rare, fewer than one death and maybe four hospitalizations per year in the whole state (on average). Bear knowledge, awareness, and safety are key.

It's an accepted method of "fishing" (more like harvesting) Sockeye Salmon. They don't bite when they first get into freshwater, as he explains here, so people "floss" them. It's basically mouth snagging, which makes it legal/under a gray area where you can argue that the fish bit since it's in the mouth. It's a widely accepted method of catching Sockeye.

It's called "flossing"... And it's illegal to catch salmon like that where I live. The salmon do stop feeding, but they attack the right combination of fly because they become very territorial over their spawning grounds. I'm surprised Mr. Wade doesn't know that.

Dude, flossing is the general tactic all up and down the entire west coast line. California, Oregon, Washington state, and Alaska. It's permitted as long as the hook is in the mouth. Snagging fish is when it isn't in the mouth. Surprised you don't know that. Salmon rarely instinctively attack flies of any kind if you are wet flying then you are flossing idc what you think. They dont feed. Just fight each other for the best spawn spots and females.

4:09 man that bear is not going to attack a human. That left him traumatized
@haydenbrayton5 жыл бұрын
Luas Mono Hopefully, yes. The whole idea behind that is to not let them get comfortable around humans, because it can lead to an attack.

Traumatised?! Yeah I doubt that lol...but I bet the next human he sees he'll be a bit more cautious of which is what you want to teach him you dont want him comfortable approaching people...wildlife officers shoot above bears when they get on the train tracks in Alberta too it gets them off the track which saves their lives and guess what they still come back so I doubt they're traumatized smh lol
