It is super rewarding to see wildlife, like grizzly bears, during our Continental Divide Trail thruhike! This is how we keep ourselves and the bears safe while sharing the landscape with grizzly bears in Wyoming and Montana. #Shorts

My mom's old boss was born and raised in the back country of Montana. After retiring, he moved back to his family home. He used to tell us that whenever he went for hikes in Montana, he'd attach an old cow bell passed down in his family to his backpack. Other hikers would tell him they could hear his bell more than a mile up or down the trail from him. He said if other hikers can hear him, so can the bears 😂

@@orion7741 grizzly bears, esp sow grizzlys are the most aggressive animal on the planet, they are certainly 100% dangerous 100% of the time. jkust because this guy has seen his share of grizzly bears doesnt mean he knows what hes talking about. you dont know where every grizzly is, there are many situations where you can happen upon grizzly bears, many many stories on youtube if youre interested, and thats usually when attacks occur. there are plenty of things you can do to increase your safety and reduce risk in grizzly country(best of which includes a firearm, but not realistic for these people) but grizzly bears are certainly dangerous. majority of the people who are attacked by grizzly bears are NOT messing with them. only an insane person would mess with a grizzly.

@@Wyatt_Riley driving your car to the store is more dangerous than a bear if you simply don't do stupid shit. Charge the bear cubs and you'll die, few simple safety measures and it becomes significantly safer than things you do every single day.

He didn't say they weren't ever dangerous, he said the chances of having a negative encounter are very low if you take appropriate precautions- which is true. Grizzlies don't think people taste good and generally would prefer to avoid you as much as you would like to avoid them. So as long as you let them know you're coming with noise, dispose of your trash appropriately, and keep your food away from your campsite in bear bags (and don't walk up to them if you do see them...), you'll most likely be just fine.

Unironically you’re probably better off with the bear spray. Its a lot easier to miss with a gun when a grizzly bear is charging and your adrenaline is pumping. Also grizzlies can still survive for a couple minutes even after a direct shot to the chest. Unless you blow its head off, its probably still going to kill you. On the other hand, bear spray makes them run away.

Hey guys, awesome video. My boyfriend and I just vacationed in Tennessee 20 minutes from the Smokies for the week. We had no idea that bears were as common as deer where we are from.. we were naively stunned to see that the trash bin outside was a giant metal lockbox.. We got home to Maryland yesterday. Seeing the wildlife (wild turkeys, elk, turtles crossing the road, BEARS, even macaws!, etc.) was the best part of the trip. We went on a local trail in Maryland a few years ago and saw what we thought was a black bear cub from a distance, but we thought we were crazy. We never hear about bears here so we just shrugged it off. We saw our first black bear mama with her cubs on Monday and it confirmed that we did see a bear a few years ago.. It was the top three most exciting things we have ever experienced. They were right in front of our car. It was unbelievable. After that, we spent 99% of our trip excited to see more. We felt stupid but it was such an odd phenomenon, literally everyone was bear searching as well just to have that experience. I have always been terrified of them, yet oddly intrigued, but it was the most special part of the trip. We have so much respect for them and the fact that we were in THEIR space. Sadly I can't say the same for others who completely disrespected the bears by walking right up to them just to get pictures, risking the bears being euthanized and the cubs being orphans. I actually reported a woman who walked no more than 10 feet from a mama. It is a felony to do so here. We will be going back again just to experience the wildlife. Random question though if you happen to even read this.. do you recommend bear spray over a bear horn? People in TN said the spray doesn't do much? That an air horn is much more effective? I trust the locals but I always heard the spray was a better deterent. You clearly have first hand experience.. can you recommend one over the other? Maybe it depends on the species? Stay safe!

@Favio Zarate You probably votetd for tRump, too. What an ignorant comment. They're hiking through those bears' home. Why in the hell would he shoot them? Absolute ignorance.

@@johanstinson Nah, one shouldn't pet bears. They're wild animals who can be dangerous and should be respected and given their space. I just wish we had mini ones that were safe to be around lol

these the type of folks you find eaten by a grizzly, black bears barely react to bear spray, a grizzly barely reacts to a .44 gl with your spray!! LMAO

Question, in a bear proof bag, when they start chomping or clawing at it, does this leave your food all squished up?

There are no bear proof anything’s. A bear can rip a car door off. I think they mean a bag that doesn’t let a lot of scent out.

and you are somebody that sounds like you have never actually spent any time in the wilderness and back country..... your view is extremely ignorant and not at all correct. Bears ARE NOT dangerous. and they were not even close to those bears. jeez, dude. maybe you should stay in your basement if you are so scared, OR maybe actually get outside and live so that you have more realistic view on life.....
