Saw this one in the theatre as a kid and loved it. It was one of the first Jaws rip-offs. I read the novelization too and loved the bit where the bear thinks of bullets as "the invisible fang."

Halfway through this video, I was fully convinced that the movie's big reveal was gonna be that the killer was actually some crazy mountaineer with a fake bear paw glove.

I was a parks superintendent and ranger for many years. Dealt with some bad situations, I do appreciate this film...one of my favorites, there are several things I would have done differently here as Chief Ranger.

9:14-9:48 Suzanne Nagy, the producer of *"Grizzly II",* not too long ago, found a 35mm copy of the film in a lab and restored & re-edited it with new additional footage. It now goes by the title of *"Grizzly II: Revenge".* Hate to say this, but it was a massive letdown; especially for me, since I had high hopes for this famous lost film. Despite clearly having minor roles, they credited George Clooney, Laura Dern and Charlie Sheen first in the opening credits, instead of a "Introducing" credit at the end of the cast list. They even used quick clips from *"JAWS 2"* for the Grizzly getting electrocuted to death!

Horrorfreak106 This was before PG-13 came in existence, and this obviously didn’t deserve an R-rating. they never showed the actual attacks(they just show the kid being dropped after the attack), and that’s usually the cut off between the two today.

GoodBadFlicks it wasn’t really them. It was the Clergy in the US. They were given prominent roles in the MPAA board, because of pressure from Ronald and Nancy Reagan. You can see a clear delineation in movie ratings in the early-mid-80s, when their people came into power.
@GoatPopsicle

Also. The absence of PG-13 made a huge difference. This would easily be a 13 now, and the absence of them showing the actual attacks, would keep it from being an R.

I live in Tahoe, and while I wouldn't say I'm afraid of bears, (and we don't have grizzly bears) I've seen enough up close- and I mean REALLY close- to know the scariest thing about bears is not only how big they are... But how utterly silently they stalk about when their meer presence seems as though it should be accompanied by an earth shattering earthquake

Wow,, I actually live in Rabun county Georgia... The movie doesn't do it any justice though. It's BEAUTIFUL here!! Especially during the Autumn! With the leaves turning colors on the trees,, shades of yellow, orange, and red... At certain times of the day, sometimes it almost looks like the mountains here are on FIRE!! We even get what we call "leaf lookers" that come to north Georgia (from all over the country) that back up the traffic for MILES!! Tourist that aren't lucky enough to have such a beautiful view wherever it is that they're from.... Two BIG THUMBS WAY UP for Rabun county Georgia!! 👍👍

Accidentally stumbled on this movie when I was a kid one new years, took me years to even find out if it actually existed or was just one of those crazy kid memories ( I swear I was passed between two moving cars windows when I was 5, but I'm pretty sure that never happened as my folks aren't psychos, still feels real tho ), even when the internet came along took me ages to find it as I thought it was called The Bear or something..........I have no point to this rant I just realized, OK folks, move along, there's nothing to see here, keep it moving.

0:28 Remember, aside from the iconic theme, John Williams' score for Jaws was far more "adventure" than "horror"...and Grizzly is a landlocked ripoff of Jaws, so the music makes sense. (They were, however, wise enough to abandon the VOCALS for the theme music, which were included on the movie's soundtrack LPs.) 1:02 Speaking of Jaws knockoffs, that red patch--and I can't believe I never noticed it, given how many times I've watched Grizzly--might be a visual representation of June's menstruation. In Peter Bencheley's Jaws novel, First Victim Chrissy attracts the shark because she's on her period.

The shark would bite the Bears face off if it Jaws could flout in air, While the bear wouldn't find enough u solid areas to hit the shark. Jaws for the win! Now what about Grizzly vs naughty? Naughty would win. Both giant and naughty has a machete and Bombs and guns and I think a rocket launcher eventually and a disenegrator and he is invisible while in the woods.

The good old days of good movie ratings, before the Reagan’s appointment of the clergy to the MPAA. PG: Parental Guidance, actually meant something back then, and not the PG= for kids, rating we have now. Also, there was no PG:13 back then, so if it wasn’t hard enough for an R, it was PG. that also means G meant a lot more too.

Ok, a couple of things: yes, 70s films are awesome. Grizzly 2 is being released, it's on hold because of the #@$%ing coronavirus. Grizzly might have been the highest grossing independent film until Halloween, because we'll never know for sure how much money Texas Chainsaw Massacre made (because the producers hid how much money it made).

let's see here, 15 feet tall, 1 million years old...that would be a short face bear AKA the super sized Ice Age Bear.

too bad it is called grizzly, they used a Kodiak, and the arctodus (short face) has been extinct for 11,000 years

The rating makes sense even for animated violence this would still be acceptable to some degree; there is no show of "graphic violence" nor is is explicitly gory, simply an after the incident shots.

I actually remember them showing this on tv in like 1981... and being freaked out by it. I don't think they edited out any of the gore either.
