I just time traveled back 7 years from the latest video on this awesome machine posted in November 2024. Still turning out spectacular products. Thx Matt

Very well done guys!!

Hey Matt, would you be able to show a demo of how to accurately do a compound radius on that rig? Like maybe a 12-16? great video!
@TexasToastGuitars7 жыл бұрын
Actually, I don't do compound radius fret-boards. I don't think they offer any real advantage... of course, I'm probably in the minority here. Maybe I'll do a video where I explain why I don't use them.
@joshualyon37577 жыл бұрын
I like them bc in the lower register for chord work the profile is a bit more closer and tighter, for the lead wok, it flattens out more and feels more open to me, but what the heck do I know. lol

You know what you like my friend... that's what you know. I make guitars that have more of a vintage flavor. For my stuff a straight 10" or 12" radius has never been an issue. I also press in frets so using one consistent radius means I don't have to constantly swap out the fret press cauls. It isn't like it takes that long to do but time is money. There are so many other things going on too saddles, nut slots, etc. the advantages of the compound radius seem theoretical to me. Having said that... it really doesn't matter what i think :)

At 3:01, it's probably just sanding dust on the left headstock 'ear' (on the right in vid.) but did the sander 'nick' the ear?
@TexasToastGuitars4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think that was just flash on the edge

Hi, I bought one of these recently and I am doing all the tweaks in the user manual to set it up. I have found that all the adjustments to the sander portion are a no go. I've had to mill out certain holes to get the adjustability needed per the manual. I haven't even had time yet to mess with the radiusing jig. What was your approach to using the shims you show here? Did you just add shims until all the play was out? Thanks a lot!

Yay, I'm being that guy commenting on a year old video! Have you guys done any mods to the sander as you said you might? Makes for a great update video.

No, we are pretty much good to go since the first round of modifications

Hey Matt. Nice upgrade. I watched a video showing the neck swinging diagonal to the sanding belt. How and why?
@TexasToastGuitars7 жыл бұрын
Hi Bryron, Thanks for watching. It is relatively easy to adjust the arms for distance, so the how part is just turn a couple screws and scooch things around until they are where you want them. The why part is actually just so we use more of the belt before it gets used up. It throws people off because it kinda looks like it ought to not work correctly. This machine (and the modifications we made) makes the chore of putting the radius on necks so easy that it is almost impossible to get it wrong.

Do you think it would be possible to mount the radius sanding jig (grizzly sells it separately) to another edge sander that goes horizontally? I was going to get the G1140 and use it as a dual purpose machine but grizzly doesn’t have it in stock (the dedicated radius sander lacks the table of the edge sander , making it useless for any other purpose but radiusing).
@TexasToastGuitars4 жыл бұрын
I don't see why not. I'm pretty sure the sander I have is just a regular one with a few pieces eliminated. I'm sure you can do it man

Hello Master. Do you have the Grizzly Radius Sander drawings.
@TexasToastGuitars4 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry, I do not
@valdisozolins74264 жыл бұрын
It's nothing! I have the ability to cast aluminum parts of any size and that's why I'm thinking of building such an installation. From the beginning I will build a spherical cutter with interchangeable metal lathe cutters.

hi matt i have bought the grizzly fingerboard sander do you know if kevin sells the modded pendalem for a subsational fee
@TexasToastGuitars6 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if Kevin is doing those or not. I'll let him know that you are looking for some upgrades. This is a pretty straight forward modification if you have a machine-shop in your area they would be able to help you too
@Hysteriskull6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the insight on your modifications. I just ordered one of these. On the site, it says the largest radius setting is 16". After working with this tool do you think it could be modified to do a larger radius?
@TexasToastGuitars6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Hysteriskull, I think you shouldn't have any issue with doing a greater than 16 radius... of course it is going to depend entirely on how y'all set yours up. It is a great tool and with a few mods it makes this task a no brainer. I'm sure you can use it for compound and other stuff... we don't do that but I'm sure it could be done. Let me know what you come up with.

Hey Matt! Digging your channel! Thank you!!!! Question: do you find the finger boards need leveling after radius sanding on this machine or are they spot on afterwards? Do you sand with a radius block and fine grit paper after this or is this pretty much all you do?? Thanks in advance! Zach
@TexasToastGuitars4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Zach, you should always check but for the most part they come off the machine good to go
@zachcerasani30434 жыл бұрын
Texas Toast Guitars thanks man! I watched yesterday’s video and I think you answered the question there. I am glad I stumbled across your channel, thank you for the videos!!

What sanding belt are you using? I got one of these and get some weird waves in my boards. Grizzly said it’s the wrong kind of belt.
@TexasToastGuitars5 жыл бұрын
Hmmmm I'm not sure but I think they came from Grizzly? I think we are using an 80 grit belt or maybe 100? Seems like an odd thing, the sanding belt being the wrong kind. We have not had any issues. What kind are you using ?
@jeremykaser6945 жыл бұрын
Texas Toast Guitars I used the one from grizzly which they said is a lap belt, they said I need a butt joint belt. Bought some new belts, same issue. Grizzly can’t figure out what the problem is, neither can I. I did everything by the book.
@georgescarlett23204 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah!! I can attest to the fact that you do NOT want to order the "Cheaper" after-market Belts as I did. Have to raise Platen to belt mid point to avoid the "Dishing" effect!!! Cheap, Cheap, doesn't always BEAT!!
