I have a criminal past, when I was in active addiction as an older teen to 21 years old, I did a year in jail. Idk how they do it in FL, but you don’t get pillows in jail. People would use a TP roll if you were in a cell by yourself (when you first come in) usually you get the worst of the worst bedding mat when you first come in. People would tear the seams to take stuffing out to make pillows. (We would shove it into t shirts and tie it up) Some mats have built in pillows, but they aren’t comfortable. But honestly, IF you are guilty of a crime, they should make it hard. It’s not about comfort. Edit- I did a year in jail. A few months after I got out, I got pregnant, and changed my life, got clean. I’ve been clean 11/12 years now

This case has me in tears. This so could have been me. I had a stepfather who started grooming me from the day I met him. I can’t explain exactly why, other than fear, that I spoke up when he started trying to slide his hands into my bra or underwear. I was 13-15. It started slowly and gradually escalated. Even though I had never been taught about inappropriate touch, I had a sense that what he was doing was wrong and it wasn’t going to end well. I finally got up the nerve to tell. My mother didn’t believe me and accused me of trying to seduce her husband. I didn’t even know what that meant and looked it up in a dictionary. I then went to my father and told him. I thank God every day he listened and believed me. He took immediate action to get me free of that house of horrors. My maternal grandparents stepped in and took me in. My mother wouldn’t allow me to live with my father. I have recovered and been to counseling. It’s been many years and my abuser is dead. I have never celebrated when I was told someone died, but when I received a call telling me he had died of a major heart attack, I celebrated! This man was a horrible person. He beat his own daughter with a broom handle. Good riddance! Some people can never recover and become safe in society and he was one of them!

There are definitely NO guarantee’s on that on the charges he is held on currently. The justice system gives notoriously light sentences for these horrific child s** abuse charges. He may be out in under 10 with time served and “good behavior”. I don’t think there should be a leniency for good behavior in prison. it’s easy to play by the rules there where they don’t have their choice of victims to prey upon!! A case locally where a man was charged with the largest CSAM collection in history and abused 5 young children was sentenced to 13 1/2 years and was out in roughly 8 years with time served despite the fact that he was classified as a “dangerous offender”. It makes no sense why we return these convicts to society to prey on vulnerable children!

Stephan's friends/roommates have said he had an Adderall addiction. It is not uncommon for parents to push for an ADHD diagnosis for their children as a source of Adderall for the parents. When she was diagnosed could add to the suspicion of what lengths the mom would go to to please Stephan. As a side note, based on the news interviews and 911 calls, I get a tone of suspicion or frustration from the grandmother and sister towards, or about, Jenn. Interesting.

He had a daughter from a previous relationship who he took with him. He left Madeline Soto with Jennifer Soto. I think he is the biological father of Madeline Soto but I also read something online saying he was her stepfather. But, if her biological father, if we believe Jennifer Soto's account, Tyler Wallace only called or texted Madeline once in a while. Madeline Soto did visit him in 2023 in Houston, TEXAS where he lives with his 2nd wife. But, the distance he lived from Madeline Soto made it difficult for him to be in her life on a regular basis.

I know it's hard for some to hear the police officer be empathetic, kind, and make small talk with the defendent, but this builds a repore that could lead to information. detectives do this all the time with people they interview. My dad worked in missing exploited children's unit for years and he got many confessions by acting like their buddy. Telling them he understood and made what they did seem less serious. He certainly didnt believe that, he fought hard to make sure abusers of children got the harshest sentences. You have to do what you have to do.

I’m so sick of these POS parents and step parents right now, they all need throwing in jail from the missing kid cases just lately and the real fathers who clearly do care are being attacked for not doing enough or not doing more and maybe they should have but at least they have travelled to find their kids and like Seth Rogers, are out actively looking for them and wanted full custody and stuff and just can’t get my brain around to understanding, even slightly, those that just sit at home or miles away while others look for their babies, I just don’t know wtf is happening right now 😭💔 it honestly breaks my heart for these kids, my hubby and I have been trying to get pregnant for almost 12 years, we’re waiting for ivf currently and are about to start fostering and hopefully adopting too, I hate that these kids are being abused at home and are so unwanted when people like us would absolutely cherish them, we can’t wait to foster kids from these sorts of homes, they will always have a safe place here where they will never have to worry about being touched inappropriately, starved etc, never, ever! These people are monsters! 💔

I don't think it's strange at all that the aunt called 911. I'd call for my sister, I could be way calmer and better relay info to police. I would like to know what emergency was higher priority for the police? It seems like they didn't take the call seriously.

People can be so obtuse. The officer driving that monster is one of the MVPs of the tragedy! He elicited a wealth of information: it grew up on a farm; what it liked and hated about it; what music it likes and why (insight into his thought process); what part of the inconvenience of jail he was most offended by etc.... These are ALL things that skilled detectives can use as pressure points and bribes - heck, his familiarity with manure, fields and farm tracks probably informed how swiftly they found Maddie's body after the tip! (I've heard stupid detectives who were never Homicide investigators criticise the officer's causal banter - silly - you get more flies with honey than vinegar 🙄) In fact the officer treated him like a human being - even lawyered up, if he DID want to confess to anything, the monster would probably ask for this officer.

Not to mention he can figure out if the guy's a habitual liar by asking Sterns what classical music he listens to, when the cop himself listens to classical. If Sterns just BSs about it, or if he can name particular songs, etc. is also extra info on how Sterns operates.

@TheStar: you're right, there's more than meets the eye to a seemingly meaningless dialogue. For one thing, as pointed out by a guest on Closing Arguments with Vinnie Politan, the officer elicited answers and clues by using the 5 senses in the course of conversation.

Why is that criminal scumbag being treated with silk gloves by the driver? He was charged with horrible crimes. What kind of music do you like?! Body temp? What?? Stephan Stern deserves to get in prison what He did to Maddie. Agree with authorities keeping evidence close to the chest. Casie Anthony didn’t get justice because of that. The father seems like a nice guy but yeah seems like the bar is pretty low when it comes to being a “good father”, if the roles were reversed people would be outraged a mother didn’t insist on meeting the girlfriend of the child’s father.

No. Driving with the body doesn't prove he killed her. It just proves he knew she was dead. He could be charged with abuse of a corpse or something along those lines but they need far more to prove murder.

When someone is telling you about something emotional, a good, basic way to know whether you should be suspicious that they might be lying, or suspicious that they don’t have real emotions themselves about it, is *how it affects you, hearing it.* I learned that from the Behavior Panel - I’m not saying it’s a sure sign of lying, though, as it doesn’t always work that way (affecting the viewers emotions) for numerous reasons - but consider how Jenn’s interview, specifically her telling what happened, affected your emotions - for me, her emotions & behavior caused NO REACTION in me. If I didn’t understand English, she could’ve been someone saying that she was really scared & nervous about something, like how she got bad news from her doctor, or that she’s getting a divorce - but she definitely would not have come off as a mother who’s child was missing. Something is VERY WRONG.

The system can take its time to take him into trial for murd3r because they got him on those other charges. There's a reason they're trying those separately, get him on the easier stuff that'll put him away for probably the rest of his natural life and then use that time to get the more serious charges really solid. I suspect Florida might want to roll out Old Sparky for him (metaphorically, at least)

After the pandemic Jenn started making excuses why Maddie couldn’t come. I think he was planning on taking her back to court, I listen to another interview with his sister and his wife, but I can’t remember where I watched it, it was early on in this case not long after they found Maddie. And Maddie looked very happy in pictures with her Dad & Stepmother. So sad, she should of been living with him, he at least shows emotion for his daughter. RIP Maddie 💜🕊💚🕊💜🕊

I agree! She was hrll bent on that! As a mother, if I sent my child to school with my boyfriend (I would never!) And she turned up missing, I would immediately suspect him. All kinds of things would cross my mind, but I definitely would have a moment of 🤔👀 directed at him. Also she was caught lying, as we all know! And that lie in my mind proves she definitely, without a shadow of a doubt, knew! "I saw her getting ready around 9 am this morning" sheriff: "Stephan was seen discarding Maddies belongings in the dumpster at 7 am! So how did she see her getting ready if she was already dead? He wouldn't discard her things if she was alive and well. So she lied because she knew she was dead but couldn't say that! So she had to come up with something.

Everyone feeling bad for the father remember if he had not abandoned his daughter and left the state she lives in he would have been there to PROTECT HER FROM THE MONSTER. He abandoned her for a new family. The only reason Stephen was able to get close enough to Madeline was because there was NO FATHER IN HER LIFE TO SCARE OF PREDATORS.

That's not necessarily true. There are pictures of them together he obviously kept communication with her and loved her she happened to live with her mother who lived in Florida he lived somewhere else that doesn't mean he doesn't love her, I don't know enough I guess to form an opinion but I don't think I'd jump to that conclusion right off the bat.

My granddaughter's (2) momma moved many hours away. It isn't because she doesn't love them, it isn't because she is selfish or forgot her girls. I'm sure she still cries for them .. I'm convinced. She moved to straighten her life out. Nobody knows details, if the dad knew his daughter was in trouble he most likely would have broken chains down fast and gotten her away from this man. The father can't be blamed, you can't blame this daddy when he was unaware. Life happens, it's not right it's not fair and it wound up failing Maddie horribly, but I can nearly guarantee that this child would still be alive if her father had any clue she was being hurt.
