Having watched re-watched these Bonanza episodes recently, Adam has become my favourite Cartwright. There's something cool and sophisticated about his scenes. It's unfortunate that Pernell Roberts actually hated the show and couldn't leave fast enough. He was awesome as Adam.

My outlook is the same, being a child during it's initial run my favorite was Hoss, but like you, after re-watching the show, Adam was the most complex character on the show, he was definitely a cerebral character, and Pernell Roberts played it just right, which is why he was right in his objections to the scripts, like he would say, it didn't make sense these grown men calling their dad "paw" like a little kid, and not having women in their lives, I've discussed this scenario countless times over the years, after the first season, the producers emasculated them and some episodes were cringe, I've said that Pernell would've been good as Paladin on Have Gun Will Travel

@@adrian72300 I'm pleased to see your comment and agree with every word! In my opinion D Dortort made a big mistake in letting him leave, Pernell approached him on numerous occasions with ideas on how to allow the Adam character to grow but Dortort said " no". Pernell also suggested that Adam marry and work part time as an added part of the show so he could do other things but was told "no". Dortort said when Pernell liked the script he was engaged and no one could match him but when he didn't he just walked through it. Dortort also admitted he was leading man quality but he had to hire 4 so that's why they were rotated in the opening credits. Pernell after trying and getting nowhere just completed his contract and left.

I was born in the fifties and watched Bonanza every sunday night but i was too young to notice how stupid they portray the women in almost all episodes. They make women look like love sick puppies episode after episode. Every one of the Carthwright have been in jail for killing someone. If it's not one it's another. I will still will watch another 100 episodes but man the writers lack imagination, it's like their thinking is stuck in a loop of some sort. I didn't know Adam knew Jiu-Jitsu.

This one had me going for sure, tough to control the emotion' when one is emotionally involved with the watching of an old flame. There was no visible connection between Adam West and the sheriff trying to steal the Ponderosa, at the same time the common sense behind this scenario is that Virginia City knows the Cartwrights and no one else. I'm talking like a child, ha. Great episode thank you for this channel.
@trwent11 ай бұрын
😮Holy Ponderosa!! Adam Cartwright killed Batman! 😂 Seriously, though, the Cartwrights really were gullible and foolish to travel all the way to Utah with that woman. After all, it really was not their problem; it was hers. The first thing they should have done is go to the sheriff in Virginia City and have him send a telegraph message to that town.

It’s amazing how owning a large parcel of land, all from hard work and blood sweat and tears, gets you so much hatred. There is a doctor who lives and owns 3/4 of the land in a small village in Lebanon is the most hated man in the village. Get this, he works the land during the day from sunset to sundown, then he drives down to the valley to open his small medical practice from 7pm to 11 pm. The land has been in his family for over a century. If someone dosent have money to pay for their medical bills he lets it go, yet his family have been hated by other town folk just because they own 2/4 of the land in the village, all from years of working the land, studying to become a doctor yet hated so much.

One thing that gets me is that the 44 Henry Cartridge was patented in 1860 for the Henry rifle and was used by the military in civil war mainly by the northern troops 1861 to 1865. It was also used in various pistols.The early colt pistols were of the cap and ball variety, I am not sure whether they were chambered for the Henry rimmed ammunition? This inaccuracy must have caused some history buffs to cringe when they watched Bonanza supposedly set in 1860 to 1861 in the early episodes.
