What a beauty!! Tis no surprise Lil Joe fell hook line and sinker for her. Didn't understand the underplots between Ben and Julia. Clearly they knew each other from the old days, but beyond that, one canna tell. Confused story line, no clear black and white moment here. Love this series. Found my Bonanza.

I think Pernell Roberts thought some of the scripts were immature..so do I, but enjoy the ones that weren't comedy based..he moved on to finally play Trapper John, which gave him a chance to prove some of his talent, even though I wouldn't brag about those writers either..show business, I guess

@@dianeblack8849 Actually in an interview by the producer, he admitted that he was unfair to Pernell. Pernell wanted to see more character development of Adam and to have him marry and start a family. The scripts called for them to stay bachelors. He went back to tv because he wasn't getting the fame he sought with doing plays.

One of the first special 10 Episodes of Bonanza in the 1959-60 season that did loosely follow the history of the great silver strike in 1858-59 that became the Comstock Lode, and the founding of Virginia City. Being a history buff, those first 10 Bonanza Episodes are my all-time favorite episodes of the show. After that, Bonanza stories became more standard Hollywood / TV western. There are two great books that inspired the show, THE BIG BONANZA (1876) Dan DeQuille and ROUGHING IT (1872) Mark Twain. Both authors had lived in Virginia City during the original glory days of the silver strike, both as newspaper men writing for "The Territorial Enterprise" and living in the genuine 'Wild West' era. The Bonanza Season 1 Episode 5, "Enter Mark Twain" shows the arrival of Twain in 1860 roughly, when Twain actually did not arrive in Nevada Territory until July 1861.

The intensity of this love story is beyond the relationship of a mother, son, female, and newfound exotic love, the intensity of the tears running down my face are somewhat confusing. This woman was so sexy, exotic, and romantic it defies explanation's, and little Joe's affections for her reveals what the right woman can do for the right gent, and in this scenario, it was this woman was perfect for joe, to come to full fruition as a Cartwright son, man, gentrified.

I have to admit that Ben lied to Little Joe when he said that Joe's mother was shunned because she was Creole, but that's not the whole truth. Joe's mother was also a woman who was known for worldly things as well, but Ben said those things didn't matter because he loved her and she loved him. But I think it's really the big age difference that's really bothering Ben and I can understand that.
@NorthfieldHymnSinging
@NorthfieldHymnSinging 3 жыл бұрын
I don't think it was the age difference. I think it was because deep down she knew she couldn't change her ways. She was using Little Joe. Ben knew that but Little Joe didn't, and he didn't want Little Joe to get hurt.
@misslucky5474
@misslucky5474 2 жыл бұрын
@@NorthfieldHymnSinging Yeah, well Ben said he was worried about Joe's reputation; being involved with an experienced older woman. But she did not use him. She was flattered that a young cutie defended her honor as well as appreciative of her attractiveness. Joe on the other hand, he put himself out there like that. Did you see the 1st episode, did you see episode 66? Attractive older women is his gig...that's what he does. Joe was a bit more partial to this lady because of the similarity to his mother. So, they both were pulling off of each other for their own personal reasons.
@NorthfieldHymnSinging
@NorthfieldHymnSinging 2 жыл бұрын
@@misslucky5474 I don't think I have seen those episodes. I guess the script writers are able to use Joe's young age in that way to create those story lines, whereas it just wouldn't work with the other characters. Adam is too sensible, Hoss is maybe a bit more experienced and would not get involved. I understand the similarity to his mother being the connection here. Pity it never works out for any of them, but I guess they have to have a clean slate for the start of every episode! :)

@@NorthfieldHymnSinging if you get a chance check out those two episodes and watch how Joe reacts to the older women. And you're correct, the relationships never work out because of the mind sets of the writers and producers....what a shame though. Grown men deserve to have grown up relationships.

The Quincy episode is The Depth of Beauty (1979) Episode #42 I believe. I like how Quincy highlighted social issues at the time. That’s a time when people wanted regulations to protect people from predators. There aren’t any shows today that tackle social issues, corruption and polluters of the environment like Quincy did. Now there’s a mob of people against all regulation without thinking of the consequences of not having the regulations. They’re pawns of the rich.

The one criticism that I have for this series is the over use of the cliche that practically every woman that gets romantically involved with one of the Cartwrights dies... it gets kind of ridiculous after a while.

Min. 27:40 - Yes, that part WAS TRUE ! "She was also a good friend to the miners, who adored her. One described her as having "caressed Sun Mountain with a gentle touch of splendor". Bulette supported the miners at times of trouble and misfortune, once turning her Palace into a hospital after several hundred men became ill from drinking contaminated water. She nursed the men herself. Once when an attack by local American Indians appeared imminent, she chose to remain behind with the miners instead of seeking shelter in Carson City. She also raised funds for the Union cause during the American Civil War." Source : Wikipedia

Take Daddy's name, his money, his reputation but remain a punk little boy, He has earned nothing on his own and Ben should have disowned him long since. Let the BOY become a man because he isn't now. Same way with The Rifleman. His son was a rule ignoring little s*it too. Something about Hollywood's writers. Gotta always be a Frank Burns or Little Joe Cartwright, twits that in real life would have been slapped silly and sent packing. Hollywood loves the "bad boys". One in pretty much every series.
