I have not had a car in 20 years, there's just no need for it. For short distances, the bike is the quickest option. And for longer distances, nothing beats the train.

That is so good for your health, the fresh, brisk air! And agreed -- it's just the first few minutes of adapting (I'm not as fierce; admit to wearing socks and gloves 😄). Like the way the shops are set up: the outdoor farmer's market, and purchasing smoked sausage in a department store is new to me! And Lidl!!! How I wish they had Lidl or Aldi here! Do you shop with a list? Always impressed how you put ingredients all together into a week's worth of great meals. This whole trip looks enjoyable, and there is little chance of waste from over purchasing.

We have both Aldi and LIDL. In fact, there is an Aldi literally next to this LIDL. But I don't go there very often. I always have a list, broken down per store. And the items on the list are usually in de order of the aisles in that particular store. My shopping list and menu are made at the same time; what's on sale influences what goes on the menu, and in my head I break down the dishes on the menu into ingredients, that will go on the shopping list

I'm Swedish and love, love, love shopping in the Netherlands! Not only is it VERY cheap for us. But the variety available without taking a train to a major city is amazing! And yeah, the biking everywhere makes things so easy! Healthy too!

Have you been to the Netherlands often? And I love how close together everything is, too. Very convenient to get sales from different stores, or in the rare cases something is out of stock at my regular store. I think I can cycle to at least a dozen supermarkets within 10 minutes, from multiple chains, in this town of 80k people.

@@PaulvanGulik I've been a house/cat sitter in Gouda for a month. So daily runs to Lidl, Albert Hein, the kaasmarkt, various tokos. My town is only 3500, but even in my home town Stockholm you have to travel a lot to get "exotic" foods. Often VERY expensive!

Gouda is a lovely town, though it's been a long time since I've been there. Albert Heijn? Talk about expensive! I only go there on rare occassions, when they have a really good sale, or for some more exotic ingredients that I can't find elsewhere. Even their sale prices are often higher than other supermarkets' regular prices!

@@PaulvanGulik I know right! Really pricey, but yeah I pop in to see if there's a sale. I'm cheap. Would make a good Dutchman. 😅 Kidding, but they are good at finding good deal's. 👍🏻

Hello! How do I prevent my bike from being stolen? And how do you film while cycling? Very steady camera work

How to prevent your bike from getting stolen, depends on where you are. Here, just a standard frame lock is fine in higher traffic areas, and I have a chain lock for extra security if I feel like I need it. For filming, I use a DJI Action 4. That takes care of the stabilisation. I have it either mounted to my handle bars ( when I talk to camera), or on a backpack mount (forward-facing shots when cycling or walking). I use the same backpack clip to mount the camera to the shopping cart. And I have a small tripod for when I go handheld or want to set it down somewhere, like when I'm at the market. I quite like the DJI, The quality is good enough for what I need, and the magnetic mounting system makes life so much easier when switching from bike, to walking, to shopping cart. And it's nice and compact.

Awesome! Simple but interesting. It's so quiet! And you can fit a lot of things on a bike 😊

You wouldn't believe what you can do on a bike. I've carried everything from mattresses, to several hundred pounds of concrete, to a table saw. You just have to get creative sometimes with the available space. And yes, it's very quiet. Because cities aren't loud, cars are loud. So as soon as you get on the bike path, it's tranquil.

Are your groceries safe on bike when you go in other stores? Where I live they would be stolen!

Low value items like this, for shorter periodes, are generally fine. These are very high traffic areas, so too many prying eyes for people to try anything. I've never had groceries stolen from my bike. But I wouldn't leave expensive things, or anything for an extended period.
