@clc46475 жыл бұрын
IKR? I don't mean to be rude, but I am not impressed by her techniques. All she did was advise not to buy anything unless it was on sale and stock up on stuff that was a great price. A lot of normally smart shoppers do that anyway. If you research the food ads at the grocery stores and not buy anything unless it's on sale, you can very easily make a meal for less than $3 per person.
@astrid4205 жыл бұрын
Here, I'll share some of my frugal grocery tips to make you feel less disappointed, haha. Since I also failed to learn anything from this video. 1)Pre-scan the local flyers and notice if anything you regularly buy is already on sale. If so, stock up!) 2)Shop around. Guaranteed you are not saving money by only shopping at one establishment. I'm Canadian and I get my staples at Wholesale Club and my produce/specialty vegan items at Save-on. Then I use my Safeway Gas Coupons to buy extra items in Safeway. 3)Use customer loyalty programs. Often times you can redeem points for money off your groceries, or at least save the points for travel rewards. 4)Don't be afraid to learn how to cook new cuisines. Things like tofu, lentils and beans may sound bland and boring, but you'll probably develop some new favourite dishes when you try Indian lentil Dhal, Firecracker Tofu, or beanballs instead of meatballs. These are all extremely cheap ingredients to utilize and they store well! 5)Use your freezer to full capacity. Yes it takes time to batch cook and throw it in the freezer, but it saves a ton of your future time when you just have to grab a tupperware for lunch/dinner. Bonus frugal points if you remember to take it out ahead of time, avoiding microwave power! Tacos, chili, stew, soup, muffins, cookies, bread.. Tons of things freeze just fine. 6)Don't throw food out. I know it was mentioned in the video but it warrants saying again. If you have something like yogurt that's going to go bad, bake some muffins or cake with it. If it's something that can be frozen, freeze it! Freeze leftovers before it gets to the point that you need to toss them!

Waste of gas or electricity
@cdogvlog55576 жыл бұрын
the slow cooker uses hardly any electricity. The thing about it is you need to be consious of the amount of time certain things take to cook in there. If you cook chicken, potatoes and pumpkin, 8 hours on low will do fine, but the slow cooker will overcook broccoli. The microwave is probably the most efficient thing you could use.

Why is everything focused on the mom? Mom plays with the kids. Mom reads to them. Mom cooks. Mom shops. Wtf does daddy do? Cause they both work...she’s not a housewife. This right here frustrates me. What’s more is that it is the norm where I live. My friends’ number one complaint about their marriages is that all the indoor chores and chores related to the kids are seen as the woman’s work, even if the woman works as many hours at a job as the man. Meanwhile, hubby cuts grass on the weekend, takes the car in for an oil change every 5,000 miles and calls it a day. So aggravating!

It is a FAMILY. Mother and father should be both pitching in. If he can't cook, then he can read or she can tell him what to do. If they both work then there is no reason for her to try to be a one woman show. At this point, there really isn't an excuse for her to not be doing these things. They could also take a couple hours out of the weekend to food prep the entire week. Cut celery, carrots, broccoli, meat (within reason), and whatever else so you don't have too. If you have celery already cut then you can add it to your salad or whatever else you are using it for. Get the kids involved a little bit, let them throw away this/that for you. Let them get you a bowl you need. Common sense. If you want to order pizza, then just order pizza. Don't lie.

Her Husband comes from work midway through she is cooking dinner, he's not only probably exhausted but dosen't even know what they are cooking until he goes in the kitched, and the wife is like I said already halfway done, he would probably get more in the way at this point than help, he should if he wants to help, get the dinner table ready while mom is cooking.
@rebeccacole69545 жыл бұрын
He doesn't have a day off apparently? They can't spend an hour on a day they have off to meal prep a little bit? She works too, she is probably exhausted as well. Don't be ignorant. Step up, she was very clearly stated as being a working mom. Then they need to work better as a team. She needs to tell him what he can do in that case. She might leave earlier in the day so she can pick up the kids (and he leave later to drop off the kids) and be home to try to plan dinner, that's fine but they are a team. It is not a one woman show. Sounds like excuses.

This actually hard to achieve if both parents work, and kids are avid sports players bc weeknights and weekends are spent at games and yet some plan is necessary. I can speak from experience that big chunks of time is not available, but breaking it up is much more doable. But one recent addition to the kitchen that has helped immensely is the Instant Pot. After cooking it keeps food warm which is a real boone. That along with a rice cooker for rice, grits or quinoa is a life saver. Pasta can also be prepared in the instant pot and kept warm, just don't expect al dente. Also buying meats portioned with ziplock bags and prepped or frozen veggies including garlic and onions can really save the day. also some portioned meals from big box stores. Ordering in is easy, but getting proper meals w vegetables is not cheap. That's why people fall back on pizza which is a killer on fat and too much low quality carb. calories.
@Lee-qf9dz5 жыл бұрын
The key to not wasting food, time, and money is to plan every single meal for the week, including snacks. Then you go shopping once a week and buy the exact amount that you need for the meals you planned. And if things only come in large packs (ex. Fish fillets or bags of carrots), plan other meals that use the same ingredients for the same week or next week, or freeze if possible. Don't buy things you didn't plan for bc you will probabaly forget you have it!
@beth87756 жыл бұрын
These aren't hacks; they're common sense. Check what's on sale, make a meal plan for the week, go to the grocery store ONCE for the week. If you can afford it, buy extra (of stuff you eat regularly) when it's on sale. Having a small chest freezer (if you can) can save a lot of money on meat. And buying frozen seafood instead of fresh is cheaper, just like buying produce in season.

I highly doubt if that mom was busier than me when I was raising two kids, girl and boy, by the way. I always cooked highly nutritious meals. Many times we could eat the healthy leftovers and maybe even add a little something extra, like a nicely prepared fresh salad with it. Some of my kids friends couldn't believe that we ate real meals almost every evening. Some of them would even join us. It was fun. We would have an occasìonal ordering out or just jumping into the car and eating at a local restaurant. It is a thing of just getting organized and planning.

Katie Bayliss That was funny, your comment. Katie, I really, I really did even if you don't believe me. in the United States women have washing machines, dryers, microwave ovens, and they still complain that they don't have time to do things. They have crock pots, they have vacuum cleaners. I didn't mention to you that I used to live in a third world country in Central America. I did a mission with my husband there for a season of my life. My daughter was 4 years old and my son was 10 months old. I observed women at the river washing their clothes by hand. Upon returning to the United States I never complained of the stuff I had to do. On the contrary, I was grateful for all the supplies and appliances I had to aid me. USA women need to get organized, period.

I dont like how the husband was like another thing on her plate. The kids need to be more disciplined, and the way i was raised, i wouldn't have dared be in the kitchen while mom was cooking; the safety hazard for both mom and kids. The dad should definitely watch them as she cooks or he cooks.

Lol 3 dollars is a good chunk of money for a family meal per person. My dad used to be able to cook some dishes that were only 1 dollar per person

Diann T You can still pull it off for some dishes. It depends on ingredients, if they are in season, shopping sales, and how much you do from scratch.

And for fuck's sake, buy generic ingredients. Don't play for name-brand flour, eggs, nor anything else you're using as a component to make a meal. With rare exception (they do exist) they're exactly the same.

produce should be last to pick up cause most of it is cold and should stay cold and warms up and slowly goes bad as your walking through the store.

My husband and I both work, and when we were laid off all winter (we work in a tourist town), and when COVID hit, we pinched pennies. We never went hungry. I used my calculator at the store, I used gift cards, and I love Great Value. And I take the time to cook because I enjoy it and it's much more rewarding. Buy a whole chicken for $5 and use it to make roast chicken, then use the scraps to make a casserole and the bones to make chicken stock. There's no excuse to not know how to cook.

I have zero kids and work from home, but I still prefer to "freezer cook," aka, prepare a bunch of meals once every few weeks 100% or 50% of the way, then freeze, then either just heat them or put them in the instant pot. It's really a time saver to know I'm not having to use tons of pots/pans during the week, I'm getting nutritious home cooked meals, but I'm not spending every single day having to cook. It also works wonders when I have guests because something is already prepared for them and ready to go and I can spend more time with them.

Don't eat special stuff after feeding your kids. Trust me they know. My adoptive wacko "parents" fed me crap & then cooked steaks after I was in bed. Could smell it. Resented it

@765respect6 жыл бұрын
My mom also did that with my dad. Yup, resented it. My husbands' mom did the same but his dad would wake him up in the middle of the night and offer him a bite of steak. Parents from that era were weird. My boys had free reign on food and not one of them was or is overweight.

A trick I learned is to buy chicken breasts and immediately toss them in the crockpot and shred them and divide into 3 or 4 bags for meal prep. Do it with hamburger meat and freeze it. I also learned to not go shopping unless you have an hour after shopping to prep.

Helpful tip. When you have made say, pasta, you can put it in the freeze or fridge. Thaw it the next day and that can be say lunch. My mom freezes leftovers in meals. If you want fresh fruit and vegetables you can also look online for farms shipping fruit or vegetables. A few weeks ago my mom started buying locally grown food from farms. She makes fruit salads, uses vegetables for like Mushroom pasta. You are not only supporting your families health but also local farms.

Double each recipe... cook 3 times eat 6 times. Salmon over rice and broccoli on Monday and Wednesday...pasta with red sauce on Tuesday, with white sauce on Friday. Bags of salad with Both. Thursday and Sunday ( the same meal) work smarter, not harder. Or batch cook on Saturday all the weeks meals and freeze for upcoming. Just common sense.

It's not a 30 minute meal for $5. After she gets home from work she has to prep, cook, watch kids, feed the family then clean the kitchen counters, stove top, pots, pans, utensils, plates, wipes off the table etc.,...it's an hour. It's also more than $10 for a very cheap pasta, bread and salad meal for the entire family. Those kids will be back to pb&j sandwiches within a couple days.
