This thing happened (albeit much less dramatically) to me a few days ago during a goofy one-shot I played. My character, Raven, a shadow monk batman parody, had joined with a group hunting down members of the squirrel mafia in the ranger's forest (as I said, goofy one shot, but it was an absolute blast). Anyway, we kick their asses, but right after Raven knocks out the last three mafia squirrels, the ranger, a feral half-elf named Bark bent on protecting his quiet time, steps up and summarily executes the three, horrifying Raven's sense of justice. Raven finds the fourth squirrel, which he uppercutted out of the battlefield in the middle of the fight, unconscious but alive. He shoves it into his cloak. The group gets into some shennaniganery over what should be done with the mafia's gold, and Raven slips into the woods, but not before being seen by Bark, who follows him. Raven sets up a little squirrel interrogation spotlight with his magnifying glass and a torch, and finds out that the squirrels were double-crossing the Bear Mafia. At that moment, Bark shows up, bent on murdering the last squirrel. Raven gets the upper hand in initiative, grabs the squirrel. Bark tries to grapple him, and Raven, though having only an 8 in strength, gets out with a nat 20. "He must stand trial for his crimes!" Raven yells, clutching the squirrel tight. "And I am judge, jury, and executioner!" Bark raises his blade, ready for the kill. "Smokebomb!" With a darkness spell (way of shadow monk), Raven flees into the woods, and with *another* NAT 20 on his stealth, manages to disappear into the rangers own forest, eventually bringing the squirrel to stand trial before a jury of his peers. Raven moved on, but today keeps an eye over his shoulder, knowing that Bark may be just around the next tree.

Dude...this might be a goofy one-shot...but I want to know how the rest of the story goes. Squirrel mafia?? That sounds terrifying. Reminds me of that Rick and Morty episode when they have to leave their universe because Morty pissed off the squirrels.
@Bowtiedhillbilly7 ай бұрын
@@Winterborn5 That was kind of the end of it for Raven, Bark, and the Squirrel mafia, but not for the Bear Mafia. There's a bunch of us who DM, and we're just kind of switching through episodic one-shots but playing the same characters. The idea was that the leader of the Bear Mafia, Don Bearo, got betrayed by the rest of the family for going soft, so they hired the squirrels to take him out. They succeeded, and we inadvertently cleaned up the Bear's mess. However, the lover of Done Bearo, a powerful bear witch named Dame Ursa, found out about the family's double cross and disappeared into the woods with the corpse of the Don. We were sent to hunt her down as she had been causing trouble on the road, and found out that she had fused with a mimic colony and fed Don Bearo to it, sort-of "reanimating" him as a half-corpse, half-mimic. While scouting out the colony, Raven and Bark started to realize they had a lot in common in their like of stealth and protectiveness of others, and they helped each other out a lot during the fight. The battle was truly harrowing, but we managed to take Ursa down. Afterward, Bark disappeared into the woods, but not before accepting a truce from Raven. They aren't friends, exactly, but who knows? Maybe one day...

I've been a huge fan of critical role since the very beginning. However... This was pretty much the only time that I felt something was up in the regard to the show being scripted. So, the party is essentially there to save grog for being stupid... And that the exact moment he is revealed to be saved, he activates... Scores multiple critical hits... And mows down the baddie... In front of a large audience..? Yeah, okay.
