Grom Chimera Shift Shaft Support Install | 2023 Grom Build Part 16

Pretty simple install today, we're putting on a new Chimera shift shaft support onto my 2023 Honda Grom ABS.
When I went with an aftermarket shifter neutral got even harder to find and this is supposed to help.. supposed to being the key word. It did definitely help firm up the shifts and feels a lot better when rowing gears, at least! Plus it looks sweet.

Are you planning on getting the Chimera oil cooler? Haven't seen anybody install that one yet, but apparently it's good from what I have read

I wish, that thing is beautiful. Maybe someday but right now I can't really justify the $300 on it. If I ever go BBK or really hop up the motor where cooling becomes an issue I may!

Do you have a link for the replacement shifter and foot peg support ? I was thinking i would like get rid of the passenger footpegs and all the extra support on both sides.

Why are you so jazzed for the loctite glue stick, I'm curious?

With the liquid stuff it globs and drips every where. I'm awful at keeping it contained and always end up with some on myself. With the stick it's thick and you can just roll the threads in it. I get stoked on the little things I guess hah

For new viewers the main purpose of the shift shaft support is to protect the shaft from damage in the event your drop the bike on the shifter side. This is needed when using a direct mounted shifter only, the stock linkage assembly uses the rear set as a brace!

Nice video. I'm probably just going stick with the stock shifter until something breaks but finding neutral is a pain with the stock shifter as well. I just threw on some cheap bar end mirrors on my Grom. Makes using mirrors way easier than the stock. That screw on the handlebar was a pain to get off tho, I bought an impact drive but at the end of the day I just use visegrip and twist. Debating if I should keep the impact or return it.

Do you have JIS bits? An absolute MUST have in my opinion. The walls of the cross portion are cut at a steeper angle than a normal philips and don't cam out like philips head screws do. I had zero issues getting the screw on my bar ends out. I have this and I use it all the time: amzn.to/3oU83UH It has a #1, 2, and 3 so pretty much any sized screw you're good to go and the bits are 1/4" hex so you can throw them into a screw driver or ratchet adapter. Not much help now, but for the future consider it!

Any of the “phillips” screws on these bikes are actually JIS, not phillips. JIS bits won’t strip out, using phillips on them will strip out any screws on these bikes pretty quickly.
