I'm so glad you're back!! I saw the episode which showed a new store, but I thought it was just for men's clothing. Happy to see the renovation was for both men and women. The store looks beautiful and so roomy. I've missed your stories and how you both work with the customers to educate them while trying to keep them happy. Being in customer service at a university for three decades, I KNOW how challenging some customers can be. And I've seen you handle some of those individuals respectfully. You two are fabulous. Wish I lived in NJ so I could visit your store. Looking forward to more new episodes!

I cannnot believe how radical this groom is. What is wrong with the silk?? I dream on silk, i looove silk. I just would buy one of this beautiful gowns just to habe it at home displayed like a piece of art!! As an european with no indian roots i just want to cry for no having a reason to dress myself in one of this incredible silk wedding dresses! I would like to stress how amazing is the history of silk, please do not ever compare it with tul, or even cotton! Silk is history, richness, secrets, is something to be very proud of. ❤

Can you guys do some type of episode explaining the different parts of the Indian wedding ceremony and the differences between the types of garments that are worn, e.g. the difference between a lehenga and a sari and what makes each one appropriate for the parts of the ceremony or the people wearing them?
@jamie6698
@jamie6698 Жыл бұрын
They might have to do a few. Punjabi weddings are very different from Gujarati weddings which are very different from Telugu weddings, etc.
@mounijoshi3190
@mounijoshi3190 Жыл бұрын
So typically, an Indian wedding goes on for a few days! It sort of starts with a Puja, where yk we kinda worship the god and like pray that the wedding goes on without any interruptions and may the god bless the couple... so here, people usually wear a simpler outfit such as a saree or an anarkali, etc. Moving on, there is haldi where turmeric is applied on the hands, feet and face of the bride and groom as it is good for skin and is believed to give a glow. So it is a more fun event and so the outfits are a little more decorative but highly functional since yk it's gonna get messy. Also it's been a trend to wear yellow in Haldi ceremony. Moving on there is Mehendi ceremony where henna is applied on Bride's hands and feet and all the ladies get their hennas done as well. This is also a fun event. A lot of dancing and enjoying. Thus the outfit gets more decorative. Usually a good lehenga is worn but not red. It's a trend to go for greens etc since it's relatable to henna. Moving on there's Sangeet ceremony which is like the musical night. A lot of dancing, performances, games, etc. So the outfit is sort of very decorative and heavy in this event. It's also like the best event overall because it is so much fun. Then comes wedding ceremony. Since India has a lot of cultures and traditions, the bride and groom wear what's traditionally preferred. Usually sarees among southern Indians and Lehengas among Northern Indians. But at the end of the day it's also a lot of personal preferences. The red colour tho is a staple. And then the couple can opt to have a reception or not. The reception is like an after party so the outfit basically depends on what aesthetic the couple wants to go for. Usually it used to be a glamorous lehenga, however recently due to Bollywood celebs influence, brides are wearing heavy silk Sarees for receptions... hope that helped.
@jamie6698

I was married in a Telugu ceremony. We started with a puja. Then, the turmeric or Haldi I ceremony was the same day. Other people may do it a different day. The day before, we had our mehndi done. For the wedding ceremony, I wore two sarees: first a colorful one. While red is common everywhere, it's not a must in Andhra Pradesh. My first saree was light green with a fuschia blouse. The second saree, purchased by the groom's family, must be mostly white (or cream or similar). Mine was cream with a red border and some green decorations. There are a lot of little pieces and games to a typical telugu ceremony. If you want to see some, you can look up some tollywood songs. I recommend watching the video for Alanaati Ramachandrudu. That's the first thing my husband showed me to help me learn about what to expect.

Oh and in my wedding, it's important to wear a saree. He wore s dhoti. There's a part of the ceremony where my pallu (or the part of my saree that falls down my back) was tied to a piece of fabric from his outfit. I also used the pallu to receive things from others, spreading it over my hands as someone gave me something.

It’s funny that what the diaspora Indian communities see as modern and contemporary is seen completely as old fashioned and traditional in India. If you watch the wedding dress shows coming from India, their dresses are extremely modern and funky. As a non Indian, I find both styles to be really beautiful. It’s just something that I noticed.
@Par_323

Yes these designs are old fashioned and boring😅
@mazzaf7575
@mazzaf7575 Жыл бұрын
I’ve noticed it too. It might be that they are not as up to date with current trends in India and also wonder if the traditional style is something they see as linking them more closely with their heritage?
@blueice011
@blueice011 Жыл бұрын
@@mazzaf7575 Surely they have internet and are very much up to date with current trends in Indian bridal fashion. It's the latter - diaspora always seek to stay in touch with their roots and tradition, opting for such outfits in formal occasions - while residents tend to do the opposite, mimicking western style trends in attempt to make a fashion forward, modern, edgy, progressive impression. Both is fine - there is no right and wrong in personal preferences. I realize that for Indians who are exposed to traditional clothes their entire lives, it's natural to be exciting about novelty in style. However, for people outside Indian culture, who have no clue what is trendy and what is traditional, or old school, it's about beauty and quality of the garments - it's either beautiful and well executed or it's not. It's down to personal taste. As much as most parts of designer collections are impressive and stunning year after year, there is a reason why traditional is timeless. There are outfits that you can label as outdated, old school, traditional, but you can't place them in certain time frame they could be 2 or 200 years old. Trends have very limited life span and when you see an outfit, if you are into fashion, you can easily place them in certain time frame when that style was popular. For some people, timeless quality that old school outfits have is priceless. Again, it's about personal preference.
@blueice011
@blueice011 Жыл бұрын
As someone mentioned, it's pretty much the same everywhere in the world. Diaspora has close ties with tradition and their roots which is visible in their formal occasion outfit choices, while residents seek to make fashion forward, modern and progressive statement by mimicking western trends. More geographically distant people got from their culture, more they hold onto their roots and tradition. More they are part of their culture, more they seek to be part of the world. It's natural. And it's pretty much the same everywhere else.

I'm so glad he chose the 2nd sherwani. That first one he tried on was just to plain. I loved her lehenga but didn't like that the blouse was another color. It looked to mix match to me. The color scheme of the whole wedding party though was really pretty. The whole silk thing was funny. It reminds me how Christian brides today think satin is so old fashion when there is tons of types of satin that u wouldn't even know were satin and matter of fact there is a silk that imitates satin and u wouldn't know the difference unless someone told u. lol

My god! glad i'm not marrying that guy, he's insufferable with the whole silk arguement! The trained designer in me would be shutting that down so quickly with all the benefits of silk over other fibers. Also the only thing that bothers me about saying it's a silk dress is that while it's true its not the whole truth. Silk is a fiber thst is woven into a fabric. Depending on the weave the name of the fabric changes. Silk sateen, silk dupioni, silk chiffon, silk taffeta, etc... i really and truly wish the fabric name was used fully instead of just the fiber because it actually matters. *calmly puts away soapbox 😅*
