It was wonderful to hear you explain your process especially your descriptions about bison layout of your cuts, the arm pits, and around the eyes. Thank you :) It was an awesome video and I learned something new within the first min about blow drying, Your video is so much fun to watch and the music is very playful. Your Kitty video bombed your lesson and made me laugh when he winked into your camera afterwards. @@gajjthein oh we for sure cut out some protest clips hahaha. If he's had enough he just flops over and kicks me away. He hates having his feet done, so usually clipping between his toes is me contorting my legs to hold down his kicking feet out of the way to try and get them done. But really he's a sweetheart and he puts up with it if I tell him frequently how good he is and give smooches

He looks great! I have a Bouvier that just turned one year old. I get her groomed a bit shorter than that, mostly for ease of brushing, but I love the longer, shaggy, bear-dog look. I had to give her a quarantine cut and it didn’t go that well (but she was only about 5.5 months old). A helper who can feed a steady stream of treats sounds like a good plan 😂
@takethevongwayhome4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Shorter is for sure easier maintenance. A lot of the time when I do his brushing & haircut, I think maybe I'll just shave him.. He's just so dang cute, though. And 5 months is a fun age! Haircuts at that point with Lucci were like, "No, no biting the scissors. Yes, you have to stay standing up. No kicking either. Hey look at this cookie!". A helper if possible and time, patience, and sanity breaks were our best friends at that age
@beccaschlomann75924 жыл бұрын
Rachel Vong i like something in between shaved and really long. 2-2” seems to be pretty good and starts growing back out pretty quickly! And yeah, that haircut was a lot of lick it mats covered in peanut butter on the fridge and some snipping while she was laying down for a nap. Whatever I could do to get some cutting in. It took several sessions over about three days. The only good thing about quarantine was no one saw her during the cutting phase and the ragged-layered aftermath. Lol
@takethevongwayhome4 жыл бұрын
@@beccaschlomann7592 ohp I was about to suggest those lick mats too! Those are such a good idea. And agreed! Lucci's base length changes depending on the season and how hot it is. I let him grow out into a giant shaggy bear in the winter. Puppy haircuts are super cute though, like- you can tell that's how far mom got before they'd had enough. And multi-day sessions are honestly still my favorite- less stressful and doesn't make it into a big deal for the baby to get used to!

Closer to once a month would be better. When it’s this long, it can start to tangle and mat quickly. If I can’t groom him as often, I use the same shape and just shorten his length down to make it easier on both of us. Thank you!!

Easiest and safest is to get some ear plucking powder. Sprinkle a little on the hair in his inner ear and use your fingers to pull out just a few at a time. Lucci gets big mats down inside his ear canal if I don't do it regularly

I love this! Your boy looks like a bison, and it's so neat! Nobody would mess with that dog. He looks like he wouldn't take any crap. He's so calm with you, and it's great to see. I've got a high-strung Dobe and he hates his nails trimmed, despite my exposing him to it gently from puppihood. A muzzle is required. I also like the Werebear name. What's the meaning/origin of that name? I'm thinking of a Bouv for our next dog, BTW.
@takethevongwayhome2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Surprisingly people are more often afraid of our Doberman and want to get down in our Bouvs face to pet him. We end up having to tell people not to pet Lucci and redirect to our lovebug Dobe because you’re right, he absolutely has no desire for it from strangers. I just think he looks like a werebear. His name Lucci is from the series One Piece. And highly recommend! I don’t think I could ever go back to any other breed after him. And muzzles also work wonders for nail trims :) the best outcome is that everyone’s safe

So if their hot in the summer, can you trim the hair much closer to the body?
@takethevongwayhome4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I do when it’s the hottest time of summer and he’s playing at the beach every day! I still follow the same basic pattern but with everything much shorter overall. The shortest parts on his body will be almost to the skin so his brindle striping is visible, and a much shorter lion’s mane. Or take the mane off completely if it’s still too much. Just shave the short parts down as much as you want them, then scissor blend them in to the long areas.
@PetiPolk3 жыл бұрын
Hey, nice video. If i can give some tips: - don't open the eyes so much - use kitchen gloves when dealing with the back end (the shaving is not necessary) - get sharp scissors and just follow the body lines trying not to cut skin - have the best time of your life with your buddy

Its a shame that the US has Bouvs with such soft hair. They are supposed to have a double coat with very rough top hair which is very easy to be 'pulled' when it's ready to come out, leaving a nice tidy, but still 'rough' looking dog. These bouvs look so hot and wooly. He was a good boy though.
@takethevongwayhome3 жыл бұрын
Interesting! I wouldn't call Lucci soft-coated, it's extremely course and wiry and so thick that water rolls right off, and he does have a double coat. I imagine it is different than European Bouvs though, I'd like to meet one to feel the difference. And yes definitely, always hot!
@astridjordan47853 жыл бұрын
@@takethevongwayhome @Rachel Vong My apologies. Maybe it looks soft as there is so much! I used to strip the top coat of my Bouviers twice a year with a stripping 'knife', which basically pulls the the hair out when its ready to be shed. There is so much undercoat coming out when you comb him. It would indeed be interesting to be able to compare the two in person. He's a lovely natured boy though. Very much a Bouvier in that respect.
