Grooming a Lhasa That Doesn't Like Being Groomed

This is Miss Sophie. she's not a big fan of being groomed but she has come a LONG way!! she's one I can't work on without a muzzle.

Had a comment about how I'm mean because the dog is in pain and I lifted her leg. The dog is literally sitting for 90 percent of the groom. I had to raise her leg a little to fully get her sanitary area, which is important considering she pees on herself. This does not make me a bad or a not compassionate groomer. I can't fully groom her without manipulating her legs some. Also, she is being supported every time I have her stand. If you really want to get mad, go watch my favorite groomer. I'm doing my best and not trying to hurt any dogs.

I agree I have watched some ruff groomers who don't take into account the advanced age of the dog. But she is so fluffy lifting her leg was the only way you could see so as not to hurt her with the clipper. I have come to think of older dogs like this as elderly old women who have no control of their blades. They deserve lots of kindness and a professional job which I think you provided

I had a Lhasa as a teenager that was grumpy, growly, and persnickety. I don’t know how any groomer managed him because he just hated to be picked up and handled. God bless you for taking on these senior pups. You have a good way with her. I don’t have pretty feet either, sweetie. I understand.

I think you are talking about dede croi. I saw the video she did. The dog she was grooming had a seizure on the table and she to bring the owner to help her with the dog.

I think I know Who you were talking about. She used to be really good at the groomer. But I stop watching and I reworked and she was manic as you say say Talk to quickly and always talk. So it seem to annoy the dog. One of the dogs she was gruelling actually kind of passed out was weird.

Must be referring to Dede from Tex. ... she does very, very ,agressive dogs(& cats) that been turned away. & no one else will do. She has to be fast & get done quickly

If you are referring to dede Croy from My Favourite Groomer, she is The Master of All Dog Grooming as she grooms Senior, Aggressive and Disabled dogs n cats that No one Else will touch. AND THE DOG YOUR SAYING ABOUT HAS A LUNG CONDITION AND PASSED OUT TO NO FAULT OF THE GROOMER, AND THE OWNER WAS OUTSIDE AND CAME IN AND HELPED WITH HIS DOG. In grooming there's a process. The sanitary which is the belly, genitalia, ears. Then bath, and dry, clip the body legs and then the head. Then finish with the sissors and blenders. That's how I was taught in school.

I had Lhasa apso she was very sweet, so was my male . I adored mine and breeded her twice, sold pups for just enough to cover cost, and no more, non of those dogs went mean. Something must have happen to her at a young age to make her bite like that.

Is that a special glove you use to cover your hand? I need that our dog hates when we try to cut the hair on his face & cutting his nails too, and I hated with all the darn hair covering his eyes, cause I want to see his eye, he looks so adorable without the hair covering his eyes..

Hi Lauren I'm new to your channel. I used to be a hair dresser and 9yrs ago I went to grooming school because I got 2 shih tzus and I didn't like that they got home very nervous. So they were groomed only 3 times when they were puppies. I've groomed them for the last 9yrs every 6 wks. I just have a suggestion I'm not being a hater. I feel if you want to do tutorials, please explain certain things to your viewers like why you touch the blade and change it because it gets hot. When I was in school many girls burned dogs because the blade was too hot. I would also love if you hold the scissors in the correct fingers your ring finger. It's better control for you you may not think it's a big deal but for someone who's been a hairdresser for 30yrs I could tell you how important it is to use the correct fingers. In grooming school I would remind the girls about holding the scissors properly. I really mean well so please don't be offended by a little suggestion. Another thing regarding the senior dog you mentioned his paws smell like fritos. Some dogs aswell as humans when you get older the body stops producing enough enzymes to help with digestion. I woukd suggest to the owner to give the dog Zesty Paws probiotics, prebiotics with enzymes. The dog will probably feel better. It helps with the immune system. One of my shih tzus when she turned 5 her face and paws got really red and she smelled like frito. I took her to the vet and she said it's all in the gut to give her fortiflora i have it to her for over a year and nothing. So since I take pro and pre biotics with enzymes I began to search for some for dogs and found the Zesty Paws version and in 4 months my dogs face is beautifully white and she doesn't smell at all even if she's dirty. She's active and looks like a puppy and she's 9. I wish there was a way to upload a before and after picture of her. Keep up the great work you are great with the dogs. 😊

Do you believe the owners would be open to giving this old girl CBD for dogs on a daily basis? Further would they and you be open to giving her a THC treat just to calm her nerves and residual pain? Would she be ok with lying down on her side while you groom her under carriage instead of lifting her legs? Not sure what the laws are about that in your state so it's just an idea. Anything to make our senior dogs more comfy during the groom. Just thinking outside the box here so it helps everyone involved.

She is very old and old people have good days and bad days. Dogs don't like the clippers and she could hve a sore mouth maybe. You did well with her, give her a good girl here and there.

We had a Lhasa Apso who was so sweet She was never a problem for our groomer Even as senior at age 18 years plus. We never allowed her to get fat That’s not loving your dog. Sorry I’ll bet the owner over eats also

Lauren I really like watching the groom. I have one suggestion is I think you have to be careful in KZbin about playing music. On the radio or whatever I think there’s some rules about that. I just know from overhearing other groomers on KZbin being careful but are playing music. Also I think you have gotten the trust from the dog. That’s probably why she was pretty good

You are the first groomer I have seen give a break to a senior dog. Most groomers whip their legs around and won't let them sit down. Even if they've had an injury. And I know who you're talking about when you say holds them down to the table. When I saw her video all I could think was does she realize that animals do not need to hear her constant talking?
