My sister in law got a little cav puppy , then she went away for 6 months and the little dog stayed with me. (I’m a groomer) I grew her coat long and beautiful. Brushed her almost every day. Groomed her regularly. She was stunning! Like STUNNING 🤩 Finally I had to return her and they shaved her down with a 10 blade. I died 🤣😞

Cavaliers are my absolute favorite breed. They are adorable, and every one that I have met has had a wonderfully docile and affectionate nature. The same cannot be said for all Spaniels; I personally hate American Cocker Spaniels, but Cavaliers are very special. Sadly, many of them have really bad health issues. I'd really love to get one, but I'm afraid of the risks; I'm not sure I can handle taking on a dog that might pass away at 5 years old because of a bad heart. One day, maybe, if I can find a really reputable breeder with a lot of paper work, whose puppies have really good genetics and health records.

MVD, CM and SM are prevalent in the breed, but you minimise your risks by finding a breeder that does as much screening as possible and breeds from dogs with good conformation. Good luck. They are the most beautiful dog breed, and I can't imagine my home without a cavalier in it.

I have had three Cavaliers. One died just shy of 13, one at age 15 and our mixed boy died recently, way too early at age 10. Our boy, Campo, who died at 15, was a rescue dog once used for breeding. They are the sweetest, special little creatures and I would recommend them to anyone who loves dogs.

Do not blow high velocity air directly into the dog's ear. Groomers start with the feet when applying water, not the back of the dog. Be always aware of the angle and hight you are holding the dog's rear legs. His whining likely was a sign of discomfort.

For the paw pads you should use a trimmer and not the clippers. You could cut the paw pad. It happened to my friend after I told her not to do that. Luckily it healed because the vet feared amputation.

I wish my cav had hair this😢 His hair is dry and wiry and hardly grows. Going on 2 and barely longer hair then when he was 8mos
@cindyrodenwald5222 жыл бұрын
Holding the angle of the leg like that is an unnatural position that causes pain and could damage the dog. Also, don't blow the dryer directly into their ear, that can also cause problems. To help the coat lay flat, brush, shampoo, and dry the coat in the direction of the hair growth. This is a beautiful breed. Be knowledgeable and don't use practices that can harm the dog.

Most of the dogs I see on you tube getting groomed are nice and don't fuss and just let you do stuff. And the dryer, that dog was scared but didn't hardly move at all! Soon as I turn on the dryer my dogs try to go flying off the table (thank God for the leash). I think I am starting to see why they say our store has the worst dogs. I guess its just the owners, they are all stupid and don't know how to train their dogs. Had a puppy German Shepard the other day, 5 months old, FREAKED on everything, even the bath. I tried to calm him there was no calming that puppy.

There’s no breed of dog that doesn’t bark. Even the ones that don’t technically “bark” like a Basenji will scream and make other noises instead. I raise Cavaliers and mine will bark when someone comes to the door, but they aren’t yappy dogs by nature. Try training to redirect or discourage the barking.

The first rule . What about thinning shears and rounded scissors. You mean well but that's not true 'never t use scissors". However do not use scissors around their paws
@CavalierConfessional2 жыл бұрын
@@balletbonnie01 Really standards only allow for the trimming of the bottom of their feet, but many Cavalier owners prefer a more "tidy" appearance. I have always kept my babies natural. But it is extra work! My Barkley has the most amazing Grinch-feet.

There are only rules if you are in the showing world! Fine if you are, or can keep up the maintenence. Providing the coat is suitable for clipping or trimming (ie not double coated etc) its much more important to address the comfort of each individual dog and the circumstances of its owner. I'd much rather see an owner keep on top of matts etc by trimming rather than keeping 'the breed standard' at the expense of its comfort. My cavies are not clipped but I certainly keep them trimmed shorter as it is fits in better with their lifestyle. I personally can't bear Grinch feet! 😉😂

Entertaining to watch in a horror movie sort of way. I do feel sorry for the dog who was hacked to pieces though. The story starts with a perfectly fine looking dog facing doom in the hands of a malevolent groomer. Spoiler alert: Things really get scary when the razor comes out. The shaved paws? Linda Blair's 360 degree head spin does not even compare. The coup de grâce comes when the groomer takes on the ears with a pair of scissors. You may want to close your eyes during this part. What's funny is all the clueless commentators who don't realize how the protagonist has been transformed into a freak. Poor dog is going to have to walk around in a paper bag for at least a year. I guess it is too much to expect a professional groomer to know what they are doing (hint: reading the breed standard would help). To be fair, I have seen worse, like dogs getting brush cuts, or others dyed in a rainbow of weird colours. Although this movie offers an important cautionary tale of what not to do, it did not have a happy ending. Therefore, I am only going to rate it 2 stars out of 10.

🤦🏽♀️You don't need to feel sorry for the dog...its only had a haircut! It doesn't know that the 'breed standard' is 'no trimming except on pads' 😂 There are only rules if you are in the showing world! Fine if you are, or can keep up the maintenence. Providing the coat is suitable for clipping or trimming (ie not double coated etc) its much more important to address the comfort of each individual dog and the circumstances of its owner. My cavies are not clipped but I certainly keep them trimmed shorter as it is fits in better with their lifestyle. And I personally can't bear Grinch feet! To me, it looks so untidy. My girls' feet are trimmed short as they love running free in parks and woodlands and this provides minimal risk of picking up grass seeds and burrs.

Not necessarily! Some dogs coats, if cut short, actually make them hotter, particularly double coated breeds. If a coat is well maintained and brushed out well it can keep a dog cool.
