I’ve got a Romanian Shepherd and I let her lay down as I pluck her. It’s so much nicer for her than making her stand the whole time. She only needs to stand for the top of her back. She actually sleeps as I do my work. I did the same when I groomed my Irish Wheaten when I hand trimmed him. No stress.

I pull my dogs hair regularly that way - also his face hair. I give him a bone and he lets me pull for around an hour. Takes me forever since he finds it a bit annoying. But with a bone he is ok with it. We got our dog from a shelter. He looked wild and dirty. when I first heard about taking care of wire hair this way I couldn't believe it. But I started and he turned into another dog. Beautiful dots and many colors he started to show. Before he was mostly white. It's time consuming but absolutely worth it.

I have a pug/terrier mix and she is blonde with two coats. Her tail curls up like a pug and her skin is spotted with big spots of black....her skin also is dusted with black....so her fur is mainly blonde. She has a nice soft undercoat. I would try this method with her so she doesn't loose too much fur keeping her insulating properties.

@@Martel4 Actually, there were a lot of indications that he found it uncomfortable! Sniffing the hand, yawning, looking back a lot. A lot of dogs do what we want them to because they feel like they don’t have a choice, whether they like it or not

If it's a working dog (ie. a farm dog, spends most of its time outside) it's beneficial to hand strip. It keeps their coat waterproof, and it helps their temperature regulation especially in summer. For most pets though, you're right that it's easier to clip them.
