What a beautiful puppy and really well behaved for having this being only the second time. The groomer was great but the helper wasn’t too good. Looked like she didn’t want to be there, really wasn’t taking notice of the pup, didn’t look like a dog lover at all. Hardly spoke to him, and I didn’t like the way she held the jaw, of course the groomer must, but she didn’t.

Wendy Chamberlain the helper isn’t there to groom and the way she was acting is fine. Holding the jaw like that is important for the dogs safety.

Thinning the hair near the eyes is a BIG mistake. That hair needs to grow long enough to hang down - - otherwise the dog will have lifetime of hair scratching his eyes.
@OldRaver4 жыл бұрын
Agree! Made that mistake with mine, but you can grow it out. However for this breed it is better to clip it. Tibetans have a propensity for lens luxation, (the support ligaments of the lens weaken or break causing the lens to dislocate from its normal position) Any blows to the head exacerbate this. I notice when my boys’ coats are full and face hair was grown out, their peripheral vision was TERRIBLE, resulting in them SMASHING their heads into table corners/ doors etc when they turned too fast (They always run out of the room when I head to the kitchen! Or when it is time for a walk! I swear they need helmets!!) So I keep their hair shorter now.

Sylvie Haas how else do you propose you hold a dogs head still while you've got scissors near his eyes? Holding by the beard is a minor annoyance to the dog, accidentally stabbing an eye because the dog jerks is permanent
@Jenniferlynne07144 жыл бұрын
Learn about grooming before you make an assumption. It doesn’t hurt them and it’s the only way to hold the head so the face doesn’t get cut. Go ahead and try grooming a fidgety dog in the face without doing that. That dog will be blind.

Er, it is COMPLETELY normal. And is owner preference. Originally had my two in fill coat for first two years, but during a particularly hot Summer 8 years ago my vet advised I clip them. Was like cutting my kids’ beautiful long hair off, but omg were they happier with it short! And looked gorgeous And made grooming a pleasure!! I still alternate with mine, but keeping their full coats tat free is a nightmare! (And I owned Samoyeds for 30 years!! - Sammy’s coats are a DODDLE to care for compared to Tibetans’ cotton wool matty costs!! 😱😱 (Stripped out the undercoat of my Sammies twice a year. Took a few hours. Then was EASY to brush their super straight topcoat. Dirt literally fell off them when it dried! And they dried really fast compared to my ‘still damp after 5 hours’ Tibetans! Love my TTs, but there are times I wish I’d stuck with Sammies!!!

I realize it is the owner's choice to clip or let the hair grow long but I really think this dog looked much nicer before she used the clippers on him. i dont believe in cutting tts fur as my previous tt got his hair "trimmed" and the hairdresser cut his hair right down to his skin and he was unconfortable for at least a week(we didnt pay her or go back), about 2 months later he died so shame on that woman. you also shouldnt grip a tt from the "knee" as it can damage their leg. also this helper of yours doesnt look very trained and clearly doesnt know how to handle a tibetan as she has hold of his snout, you defo should NOT do that as it can damage their nose and/or teeth. also you shouldnt hold any dogs leg too far away from their body as it can snap a bone. there are so many things wrong with your "pro grooming"
