Absolutely the best explanation I have found on the Internet. I ended up clipping my boy as it is so hot here but you have given me the confidence to try again. Some people are great groomers but not great teachers. You excel at both. Thank you very much.

I have Jack Russell Terrier her name is Angel and we seem to agree if I cannot take her we just don't go there they do not deserve our custom.She was rescued by a neighbour who saw that his friend was treating her cruelly so he picked her up and gave her to me. I had just lost my Maltese X after 17 years of love and loyalty and I was a mess. My neighbours saw my pain and knew that I loved dogs we saved each other. JRs are unusual dogs with strange behaviours, Angel is very loyal and obedient and she sees her job as my protector, she's wonderful.

My wire hair Jack Russell, Dusty, passed away after 16 years during this pandemic. She had Betty Davis eyes and an Elvis Presley smile. She was the most lovingest dog on the planet. She rode in my sidecar with me and my Bichon, Murphy. They were inseparable friends and became my pals, my friends, my buddies and my confidants during the lock down of this pandemic. Both were rescue dogs and both were a blessing to our home. The rough coat Jack Russell is the more common name than me calling them wire haired Jack Russells, but it is the term I first learned. Dusty was on her last day at the shelter before she was to be put to death there when we got her. Man, the loving memories she brings. He had a large golden rust colored spot on her left side, and we always called it her lucky spot. She loved it when I said, "Come here Dustaroo, and let me pet your lucky spot." She was a land walrus and always a bit overweight. She could be 10 blocks away and yet be right between your legs in a heartbeat before you could think to open up that fridge door. ;-) Nice video. Thanks for sharing. I miss her so very much.

Hello! Thank you for this! My rough coat, 9 year old jack has never been stripped, do you think its possible to start doing this with him. I would expect it to be gradual. Also, he is not a show dog. Is there a time of year he should not be stripped, for example during winter? Or should it just be done regularly throughout the year. How frequently would you recommend? Thank you!

Hello Stephanie I would definitely try if it was my dog, the difference in coat quality is to big to ignore. I would strip every two weeks a bit and keep on doing this for a few months. As long as your dog is happy and comfortable its good. after 4 to 5 weeks you should see ( is you open the coat ) little hairs coming out. after 8 weeks again you wil see more little hairs coming out. After 6 months the coat should be wiry again. on www.transgroom.com we have a blog page there you can find much information on strippping as well. I hope this work for you good luck, stay safe and enjoy grooming

I got my shortie, rough coat, white & sable JRT in 2020 when he was 1 1/2. He is a handsome boy! A breeder was retiring him & she wanted him to be spoiled rotten. You'll get the idea reading the name I gave him & he totally owns it .. LiL Buggar. I live alone and turned 75 XMAS DAY. I've had twin Wheaton Terrier sisters, and then I had Teddy, a miniature Schnauzer, & NOW it is LiL Buggar & me. I have been watching over & over Luna's grooming. I bought all of the tools recommended. PLEASE PRAY FOR US as I start the stripping journey. I used to think it was cruel to strip a dog (shows my ignorance). I want him to live for a minimum of 15 years. I have MS, so we produce ways for him to exercise & I have a dog walker come on the weekend. He races as fast as he can from one end of the house to the other. When he is not up in my lap in the evening, he HUMPS the 3 beds he has in the main living area until he is out of breath! I called his vet to make sure he did the big SNIP. I told him it was like watching a PORNO movie. I can't leave him in the fenced-in yard because no matter what I do to make it impossible for him to dig out ... He's gone in 15 minutes! I really think I would die if something happened to him; he is all I have in the world. My brother once asked me if I researched JRT and I told him I wouldn't change a thing about him except I wish the breeder had done the stripping for 8 weeks on. I will continue to watch your videos. I wish you lived next door!! Thanks for listening, Carol & LiL Buggar

Hello , thank you so much for your comment , Can i just ask how much time there is in between 2 grooming sessions ? sometimes if you wait too long, the undercoat is the same length as the upper coat . There can be so many reasons, why there is no undercoat . It can be genetic , depending of the foot , hormones , ... so many reasons ... What is your groomer saying about that matter ? Thanks

Thank you so much for this gem of a video Kitty! I have started to try and rehabilitate my Rough coated JRT, Marty, after having taken him to traditional groomers who were shaving his coat with clippers. Unbeknownst to me, this was the worst thing I could do for my little rescue JRT! After discovering you, I've read about the breed and just so intrigued by your techniques, and so impressed with Luna's coat! I've bought all the tools you've recommended, and I already see a huge improvement in his hair. It is starting to lie down, and he doesn't look like a walking sheep any more! I would though love and appreciate any advice/tips you might share on this rehab process for his coat? Ie: All around his neck area, the hair is still flipping up and has a bit of a wave to it on the end tips making him look like a frosted cake. I know this is a result from all the clipper cutting hair cuts he received, but hoping will it eventually lie down like the rest of his coat? Thank you so very much! All the best, Diane and Marty xx

HI there, I have a 5 month old Wire Haired Fox Terrier. I noticed some matting on her abdominal area. The hair just rolled into two or three mats. I tool her in to be evaluated by a groomer and she was supposed to remove those mats and trim the insides of her legs. When I went to pick her up, she had less than 1/4 inch hair all over her body and they even shaved her face and ears. Now, I am not trusting anyone else with her and I am trying to educate and equip myself to groom her. I hope her coat is not ruined. Do you have any recommendations where to start to recover. I have a SS comb and I comb thoroughly every other day. She has no mats and I do see some of what looks like hair that you get from stripping. Since, she has never been stripped, I am not sure.

Why can’t I give my JRT a #3 all around. I know that’s an ignorant question. Thank you.
@TransgroomTV2 жыл бұрын
Hello Matt, We understand your Question . We recommend not to shave your Jack Russel . This will have a bad influence on this coat . The colors of the fur will get very light , the coat wil get very wooly. the dogs coat begint to moult ... the dogs skin will get itchy ..all reasons why you don't shave a stripping coat . Kind regards .

My purebred JRT is 6mo old. Not a show dog. Can I clip the coat with grooming shears or clipper. She won’t stay still enough for stripping

Hello Lesley, please handstrip or find a groomer who can handstrip, please have a look below what wil happen if you clip or scissor your dog. If you have a hand-stripping breed you should not cut your dog’s coat. Cutting can result in the coat losing its natural texture and vibrant colours. To prevent having a dog with a soft coat and dull colours you should hand-strip. If the coat is not hand-stripped the dog can also get skin problems due to irritation. If the dead hair is not pulled out, another hair will grow in the same follicle. This causes clogged follicles which means the skin cannot breathe anymore. As hairs keep growing in the same follicle, (the hair can’t fall out naturally it must be pulled) they become finer, lose their colour and lose their natural thick texture. Some coats will even start be curly and be very fluffy. Foto 1 Wouldn’t you like to have a beautiful and happy dog with its natural coat, natural structure and color as he was bred to be? Benefits of hand-stripping a ruff coat • A healthy skin and coat: the ruff coated dog breeds need to have the old coat removed to allow new and healthy coat to grow. The skin is healthy because the hair follicles are not clogged with old hairs that are not removed. • Deep and beautiful colors: the colour of the coat will stay vibrant and true to the originally intended colour. White stays snow white; red brown stays bright, warm red brown. • Protection and Maintenance: the hard coat repels water dust and dirt much better than other coated dog breeds. This type of coat also forms less mats than others because of the thicker coat. Disadvantage of clipping or scissoring a ruff coat • Texture: the coat changes from wired and ruff to soft and fluffy and even to curly and silky. The coat attracts dust and dirt and needs more maintenance because soft coat needs more washing and brushing. • Colour: the colour becomes pale and dull. Red brown coat becomes beige; white becomes yellow; black becomes grey. • Skin problems: if the dead coat is not removed, new hairs are continuously been produced and grow in the same follicle. This irritates the skin pores and clogs up the follicle and the skin produces much to much oil to try to solve this problem. • The skin pores become clogged too because there is just too much hair. This weakens the skin resistance and becomes vulnerable to fungus and yeast infections. I hope this wil cinvince you to handstripping and not clipping or scissoring

Transgroom TV I think my JRT is not a “rough coat”. Her hair is soft and not broken with different textures...

Hello Diogo, you defently have to try, it doesn't hurt the dog , it's a wire coat, so it needs to be stripped, to keep the coat in shape and healthy. Kind regards.

Totally disagree with grain free food. It's a no-no now that it has been linked to heart defects.

Hello Sammi, thank you for your message, I just spent a while speaking grain free and investigating what's going on. I wish it was easier to protect our pets, one day they say that's the best and than after a while they say it's not. It's a bit like our food one day butter is ok the next it's forbidden. Anyway thank you for making me aware, I shall investigate more and go forward with the new findings. take care.... stay safe

This looks painful. Poor dog looks terrified. Imagine someone ripping your hair out.
@tracyharris29282 ай бұрын
Rough coats are made for this. It is hair that needs to be plucked out so new hair can grow and the follicles don’t get clogged. She’s take very few hairs at a time and It is not the least bit painful for them. My dog lies around while I strip small areas

Think this is a little cruel, the dog looked better at the start anyway! Rough just as intended. My rough coat terrier gets the odd trim but he's rough for a reason, its in the name eh!
@bubblepig11214 жыл бұрын
Hand stripping the dog is not cruel at all. It helps maintain the coat and help build a good coat with proper layers. If you look at the breed standard it is supposed to be hand stripped, and not just be rough and not groomed at all.

I used to think so to so only striped the back of my dog and shaved/cliped the sensitive areas like the stomack. What a mistake!! It has turned the dog wooly in those places so when the hair gets long at all it starts to collect dirt and sticks it gets mats super easy and his rough hair never gets mats and does not get very dirty. So it would have been alot kinder to him to just learn the right info on handstriping from the begining and do it on the stomack to. I can tell that the handstriping does not hurt. I made a mistake and now turning it around will be hard both for me and the dog so please dont spread misinformation I dont want more dogs to have this kinds of problems. If someone does not want to have a dog handstriped they should buy a shorthair dog. That coattype is not wooley in the same way as a shaved dog that should be handstriped so it will not create the same problems.
