My dog is a shihtzu yorkie mix and he’s 8. Hes my first dog (always had a cat) so I made the awful mistake of not brushing him when he was young. He has hair that’s just like the cutie in the video. It is like cotton candy in some places. He gets the worst tangles under his little armpits. I’m very thankful for my groomer and the work she does because he doesn’t let me near him with a brush! Big mistake I definitely won’t make if I get another dog at some point!! Brush those puppies! Good groomers deserve some serious credit - it’s all about the love and positive energy, just like you Rudy!

Great tutorial. I wish I had started my shih tzu out early with a brush. She won't let me use one on her now. I have to use a metal comb, which works ok too. That's exactly how I like my little Ruby cut. Excellent job. I have a question. I had a groomer that said my dog had a small mat between the pads of her paw (that I could not even feel it was so small) on one foot when I picked her up from a grooming. She said I could not bring her back until I had it "professionally" removed at a vet because she didn't have a small enough tool to do it. And this is an expensive, nationally known chain of boutique pet store/groomers (not Petsmart or Petco). I have never heard of something like this. I always make sure there are no mats before bringing in, but this one was not one I would have noticed. Isn't it the job of the groomer to remove a mat if necessary?

I've never used the slicker brush because I figured it would be to painful and wouldn't reach the skin. But looks like it's not meant to touch their skin anyway. I love how sweet you are to her ❤️

I read you should never brush a coat when dry - is it true you should spritz beforehand?

It really depends on the situation..Most dogs that come into a grooming shop, are knotted,matted, or in not so good condition. In this case,spritzing will not have much of an effect, although show dogs who are being brushed daily, or a well maintained knot free pet,spritzing is a great idea..I recommend..The Stuff..spritz,detangle r..

I have a Shih Tzu and I brush her with a brush that’s similar to a slicker brush but it has rubber covering at the tips. I’ve never brushed her with a slicker brush because I feel like the spikes are poking and scratching her skin. What technique do you recommend.
