The Beatles redefined Rock and Roll. Rock Music became Beatles music. Pop Rock, Hard Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Avant Garde Rock, updated Music Hall with a Rock sensibility, Classical Rock, what became Heavy Metal.... As other here have said, it was a group effort, with many bands/acts joining in, but I'd say, the Beatles created that atmosphere to experiment.
@MikeytheGeek771110 күн бұрын
The Beatles were only together for 7 years, but they changed so much in that time and they took the music world with them into the 70's. You can't really categorize them because they were constantly changing. You said you reacted to Helter Skelter. As I recall, Paul wrote that because Pete Townshend, I think it was, said they were soft. They could do anything they wanted to do.
@papercup251710 күн бұрын
Unless you're only counting it from when Ringo joined, they were actually together as a recognisable entity from the summer of 1957 when John and Paul met as teenagers and John invited Paul to join his skiffle group, and they began their song-writing partnership. George, Paul's younger guitar-playing friend from the school bus, joined not long after. OK, so Ringo didn't complete the final line-up until 1962 when they got their recording contract and doubts were cast (possibly misunderstood) on Pete Best's competence to play on their first single, but the nucleus of the band was well established and had been playing gigs daily in Northern England/ Scotland and Hamburg, Germany for YEARS before that. I really don't think it's reasonable to discount those THOUSANDS of hours of performing together, plus many, many more hours of J and P sitting down writing/composing together, prior to recording their first single with Ringo on board. Since they broke up unofficially and then officially between 1969 to early 1970, that makes it about 12 years in total they were a functioning band. I only harp on about this because some people (Americans mostly) seem to think they were some kind of overnight sensation, and/or that their career only began when they toured the US and had their first Number 1 hit over there. Some conspiracy enthusiasts even claim they were just a proto-typical boy band manufactured by their manager, who couldn't play their instruments and didn't write their own songs! That might not be at all what you meant (so I apologise for the rant!), but I would just like others to know that, semi-magical as they might seem to us now, this was indeed a real band, that spent years honing their art, well and truly 'paying their dues' before eventually hitting the bigtime worldwide..

If one must categorize the Beatles.... I would say they were the true and only bridge between what began in the 1950s and then what evolved via them and others. They truly set the template. Before they made it they were already touching the biggest stars, hanging around them... and some of those stars are the ones that created rock and roll ...like Little Richard. The Beatles were the bridge, but absolute geniuses at music. The timing for them was perfect

@@tomroome4118 I don't know either. Billy's pretty prominent in the film. Awesome reaction! And The Beatles are way beyond the "Best", or "Most influential band in the world" like some people here in the comment section like to say. Titles like "Best" and "Most influential" are really so subjective. What is absolutely not subjective is, to this very day, THE BEATLES ARE THE BIGGEST SELLING MUSIC ARTIST OF ALL TIME, AND NOBODY ELSE EVEN COMES CLOSE TO THEIR RECORD SALES! The Beatles are bigger than Michael Jackson, bigger than Elvis Presley, bigger than Rhianna, bigger than Madonna, bigger than Taylor Swift, bigger than Drake, bigger than Dr. Dre, bigger than any other music artist that ever breathed air and walked the face of this earth! Nobody else even comes close to their record sales. Do a quick google search and you'll see what I'm talking about. Again, awesome reaction! Peace

With the exception of this reaction and "Come Together," most of the Beatles songs you've chosen are strange places to begin listening to the Beatles. All are sort of late in their career. They aren't very typical of their work, and, in fact, many are sort of one off novelty songs. The Beatles have many, many songs which are just straight rock, such as, for instance, every song from their first 3 albums. Even much later in their career, when they were doing less standard things, they still have many, many songs that are still pretty much straight rock, such as "Back in the USSR," "Revolution," "Getting Better," or "Ob-La-Dee Ob-La-Da."

12 years, I would suggest, from 1957 to 1969. Sorry, just wrote a great long rant about this following another poster's comment , so I won't repeat it all here! Not dissing Ringo or anything, but it boils down to the fact they were a fully functioning band racking up THOUSANDS of hours practising, performing and composing, building their repertoire, group identity, style, skills and localised fan bases in Britain and Germany, well before Ringo joined in '62 to complete the familiar line-up we know today.

The Beatles were actually together for about10 or 11 years but they hadn't Released albums really yet. They started out as A garage band in high school Which was basically John Lennon's band They went through a lot of different Members Over a. Of time Paul McCartney joined. Back then I can't remember which was which but 1 of them was amazed that the other 1 could tune a guitar and the other 1 was amazed about lyric writing or something. I think they went through about a dozen different members And then finally became the silver Beatles And then just the Beatles They spent a year in Germany playing in small clubs owning the craft! At that time they had 5 members George John Paul Pete best who was the drummer and another member who was who family was bankrolling them. The 5th member controversial believe he Died And then they just stuck with 4 members Kicking out Pete best and replacing him with Ringo Ringo Starr which is a nickname His real name was Richard Starkey Before he became Ringo Starr because of the rings he wore! I believe I could be wrong but Ringo Starr was the oldest member Of the Beatles Paul McCartney possibly the youngest. Right now Or at least in the last few years Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney were still on tour and writing new music. Have you Have you reacted to the music video of the last Beatles song that was actually released in the last couple of years? It was A demo tape by John Lennon that his widow Yoko Ono gave to Paul McCartney Backstage when they were doing a A special concert for John I think it's when he was inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame? She had given them 3 songs The last song now and then Degraded on the cassette tape he recorded it on sitting on his piano. When the 3 remaining Beatles after John Lennon's death Got together to do their anthology project In the 80s I can't remember I can't remember when George Harrison died I think I think it was in the early 2,000s from cancer. Anywhere about a decade before that The 3 of them George and Ringo And Paul Did the anthology project and they recorded2 of the songs from demos that John Lennon did With their 2 anthology albums! The 3rd and final 1Couldn't be produced because of noise in the background and a bad recording until About 2 years ago When somebody had created AI To clean up the noise And enhance John Lennon's voice So Paul And Ringo got together to add lyrics to the song And record a special music video Build as the last Beatles song ever and less some more Show up! How about their live performance of hey Jude Which Paul McCartney wrote for John Lennon son Julian Lennon! I suggest a reaction to the traveling Wilburys Members including George Harrison A British American supergroup Members being George Harrison Tom petty bob Dylan Roy Orbison Jeff Lynne. Songs End of line Handle with care Tweeter and the monkey man not alone anymore Baby inside out dirty world last night run away KZbin you took my breath away New blue moon pour house Where were you last night7 deadly sins. The "she done me" line would have got the song banned at the time - certainly from radio play - if the censors had understood what it meant. The sexual connotations of the phrase weren't as widely known back then as they are today. It's all just popular music... Back then there weren't really any very distinct genres in the way popular music is divided today. In the US, as I understand it, there was regular, mainstream popular music and this other thing called 'race music'... I know, shudder... but these were the days of segregation and black music wasn't mainstream, being regarded as not only alien but likely to be dangerous to the morals etc of nice respectable white teen boys and girls. Adults were extremely uptight in those days; the merest suggestion of sexuality or sensual movements, etc, were enough to have artists banned from TV, for example. NOTHING like today. Anyway, the Beatles changed all that, by incorporating a whole lot of black musical influences into their act and having no problem telling everyone who their musical heroes were in the black community. As a result, careers were revived or took leaps into the more lucrative mainstream, for quite a few previously overlooked or undervalued artists. But I digress... Because the Beatles were genuine creative geniuses who were always trying to grow and develop, they took inspiration from a vast range of sources, going through a series of evolutionary changes over the total of 12 years they were performing or recording together as a band (or 7 after Ringo replaced their previous drummer), accidentally creating new genres as they went along. These are the genres we know today, now each with their own artists and charts and awards and so on. But the Beatles did it all, and started most of it. That is why they're known as the most influential band in the history of popular music, and why it's impossible to limit them by any particular genre..

The only way you're going to understand that is to listen to ALL of their albums and I will bet you a years pay that you will NOT like any one of them BUT you will love every one of them.
